After all the dragons are dead, now what?
Interesting topic!
If we say a place like Orr actually gets fully restored, who will get that land? I’m just thinking about massive wars everywhere where people fight for who’s what..
It would’ve been easier if – let’s say – the Vigil were the ones kittentored Orr, then they would probably be the ones who got that land, for Military outposts and such. But now when all the races are gathered into one big group.. I don’t know, it’s just an interesting idea to tinker with!
The Charr go back to war against the humans while the Norn sit back and watch (maybe acting as mercenaries to either side). The Asura go back underground (but keep their surface holdings). The Sylvari go dormant as their purpose has been fulfiled.
Anything other than a Charr vs Human war would not fit the lore (not that that has stopped what happened in the LS…).

Unless by that time cultural change of Charr and Humans, combined with political, technological and economical interdependencies reduces their willingness to go to war (as happened in Europe after the 2nd World War).

Perhaps or perhaps they realize that they can profit a lot more from trade and technological exchange with the other nations and thus stick to the surface.
The Sylvari go dormant as their purpose has been fulfiled.
Maybe, but that is baseless speculation.

I’d say the humans (for cultural, religious and historical reasons) but only after the pact has made sure all dangers are gone, all tombs are studied and all magical artifacts are removed.

For historical reasons, it would become a gigantic museum / protected archaeological site owned and maintained by the Priory. And they would try to build it up back to as it once stood prior to the Cataclysm. Just like we humans do with ruins from ancient Greece etc.
I would just love that :P
witness our wonders and cry out in astonishment and humble themselves.
Beware our mighty works.

The Charr have been at war for their entire existence. When they don’t have an outside threat then they will simply war amongst themselves. They have stopped their war with the humans like two years ago, because the Dragons’ threat that has been building for 250 years is now recognized as more important than the humans.
Your example of Europe after WW2 is a bit flawed, as you are talking about (RL) humans, and even then they had a new threat to unite against (Communism). Even after the Soviets were defeated (economically), its not like wars and conflicts have stopped. If RL humans cannot stop fighting wars for even a couple years, I don’t think that the Charr could ever stop, it’s just their nature.
The only way that there could be enough cultural changes to stop a renewed Charr/Human war would be lore-ignoring hand waving by Anet, or if say, Iron joined the humans to fight against Blood and Ash. If we’re taking such hand waving into account, we should also take into account the chance of castles becoming sentient, and pink bunnies laying eggs that hatch into cell phones.
Actually the sentient castles could work, that might be a pretty awesome concept (maybe the Wizard’s Tower in Garenhoff could itself be a sentient dungeon).
I can’t help but be pessimistic on what happens in the far future when all the Dragons may actually be killed.
Some posters are pessimistic the game will last 2 weeks. It’s pretty optimistic to worry about what happens by the end of the Elder Dragons storyline. Personally, I expect Mordremoth to live beyond LS2 and each dragon will probably have a season with their threat growing rather than diminishing.
The Charr do have a militaristic society, so unless their culture changes remarkably in the time until the Elder Dragons are defeated, they will certainly seek out yet another enemy to conquer.
But that said, I think they have no shortage of enemies for a loooong time. (Ogres, Grawl, Krait, Centaurs, and going farther afield, Palawa Joko’s armies and possibly the Canthan Empire, if they’re still hostile.)

Might be a wee bit unrelated, but if the dragons were really the planet’s check to it’s energy, would it be trading one problem (dragons) to another (overflowing, OVERFLOWING magic everywhere)? I’m getting thoughts of a large-scale event like the Thaumanova reactor, only happening in a lot of places.

Further more, unless the Foefire is reversed and the Flame Legion completely destroyed, the Charr still have those battles to contend with…as you stated, no shortage of enemies for them not to leave the humans alone after peace has been won.
After all the dragons are dead, there ends up being an overflow of magical energy across tyria. The chaos can’t be contained. All hope seems lost but suddenly the human gods return to tyria. They absorb all the overflowing magic, and it turns out that was their original purpose for coming to tyria to begin with. They found out they couldn’t kill the elder dragons because the elder dragons would just absorb their pure magical bodies. Turns out that Abaddon was good all along and the other gods were evil! He planted the seeds of destruction by giving the world magic, and it turns out that we’ll be using that magic when we fight the ‘human’ gods that have literally become more powerful than actual gods.
There’s the story of GW3 right there!
After all the gods are defeated, new heroes absorb their powers. With Tyria in Chaos due to the death of the elder dragons, the new gods leave tyria with their people to find a new world to settle….or are they? Maybe these new gods are just as greedy as the old gods and want even more power! Thus the cycle begins anew.
What was GW1 after Abaddon? Besides EoTN. it was the War in Kryta, and the Ministry of Purity of Cantha.
I imagine for GW2, it would create new storylines exploring the individual conflicts of the races, with a Living Story-type of content. For example, a story arc dedicated to fighting separatists/renegades, and another arc could deal with more Inquest stuff that reveal lore.
There is still the massive undead army controlling elona
Darkwood Legion [DARK]
Yak’s Bend
If we are finished dealing with the dragons maybe we still have to wipe out the 3 large centaur tribes that are attacking us, enslave the quaggans, cleanse Elona of the undead, slaughter the flame legion, burn the last remnants of the white mantle and alot more.
We wont run out of work for at least the next 10 years.
the gods will come back and will want to take all the magic that flys in the air cuz of the death of the dragons, and also they wanted to take magic from all living creatures while doing so they realise the world is breaking apart cuz of magic so after they take all magic they plan to destroy tyria and rebuild it with new breed of people, demi gods……and we need to stop and we need to fight the gods, we will needs to use the dragon magic that is left flying in the air + the bloodstone, after the gods will die their magic will fuse together and create the 1st god, father of all, creater of the universe….. nothin can beat him so the heroes of tyria need to find a scrool that will send them back in time and to kill the god while they were humen and take their palces…………but the new group had to change their names once they became gods so history wont change the main hero became balthazar marj and kas are lyssa rox is melandru braham is grenth taimi is dwayna………that means that everything went acording to plan and nothin changed and the gods that they were fighting in the future are accouly themselves but mindwashed by the magic, so they never gave the world magic to prevent the destruction of tyria and the world…..and gw3 starts with a new world with no magic
You ask, what after dragons?
Well, I guess we all know the answer…

In the short term, the Flame Legion, the Inquest, the White Mantle and possibly a renewed Mursaat threat. The nightmare court will be a constant thorn in the Pale Tree’s side, until the nature of the nightmare is understood and resolved. The centaur tribes will forever run amok until they are united as a nation under rule of law, or until they are wiped out. Palawa Joko will threaten everything without the dragons containing his push north. And who’s to say the dragons are the only ancient threat? What of the Gods of the former races? Where did they go? What if they come back and empower their peoples once more? The Jotun were once terrifying. They could be again. What of the Seers? The wizard’s tower in Garrenhoff? The isles of Janthir? There are plenty of battles yet to fight. To say nothing of threats not yet arisen.
