I have traveling through the shiverpeaks trying to find Anvil Rock. For those who do not know what that place is, it is where the dwarves were first created by the great dwarf. It should be in the areas that we can explore, but I can not seem to find it. Anyone know where it is or what has happened to it in lore?

I think it’s in an area we can’t go to right now, I’d say to the west of the Frostgorge Sound and north of the Snowden Drift.

What a petty fight. Regarding the great dwarf and how we know how god hood works in the world of guild wars. He was created but probably created out of very powerful energy or using a very powerful ritual. He could even of been a byproduct of the mists but bickering where dwarves came first is down right pointless.

As per guild wars 1, alot of lore from gw1 has shown to not be exactly true to it’s word. So the great dwarf and the mystery surrounding him might not be what gw1 said.

On topic, Anvil rock is located north of Snowden and west of Frostgorge. If you look at some of the territory you’ll realize that Yak’s bend is partway up in Frostgorge, meaning that the uppermost territory isn’t actually as far north as we could go in GW1.

No.

The lore was either tweaked a different direction, or various holes in the story were filled taking it a different direction.

I personally still stand by the belief that there was a Great Dwarf. I am very interested in how they tie this up (if they do) but for now I stick by that idea. I think there are many interesting ways where both the Hive Mind and the actual being could be linked into the creation of the dwarven race.

I take it any movie based off a book or any comic book character worked on after the original creator quit the book must fall under that same train of thought right?

Nah…Entirely depends on the material.

Ever seen Batman & Robin the movie? Batman & Robin(Clooney) is to Batman(Keaton) what GW2 is to GW1. After Guild Wars, everyone wanted a “Dark Knight” but instead we got goofy antics and Arnie with his bad one-liners.

Or the Great Dwarf came first and the legend talks about when the dwarves became individual beings – perhaps the dwarves were born into the world as they are now, stone with a collective consciousness and a drive to fight the Elder Dragons (created as constructs to fight the ED), and when the ED were hibernating they gathered at Anvil Rock and underwent a ritual to give them individuality and flesh and blood for bodies.

Or the legend is just simply wrong.

It is a legend, folks. And legends aren’t always truthful or accurate.

I fail to see how your response to Dustfinger is in any way an actual response to what he said. What it boils down to is what the actual lore is. Regardless of why or how it became the actual lore.

It’s still the lore from GW1, and honestly, the ONLY lore previously presented as facts shown to be wrong from GW1 is human history. Specifically The History of Tyria document by a Thaddeus Lamount (renamed Thaddeus Ghostrite when he became a risen, supposedly – probably a pun on how he’s a wraith (aka ghost) and a (w)rite®).

And as I’ve said in another thread a long time ago… Thaddeus was shown to be wrong since GW1. So honestly, there has been no change in GW2’s lore since GW1 on a fundamental level.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

“Why or how it became the actual lore” is important. It’s more important than the lore itself. For some reason a lot of people here can’t seem to make the real-world connection behind the writing of this story, like Tyria is some real place where we can go to and do research. Umm…huh? Thaddeus didn’t write that document, some creative geek did that at a Mac in Washington somewhere.

The point is, if one can’t see how the reality influences the fantasy, one shouldn’t be discussing the story in the first place quite frankly. We can talk all night long about the Great Dwarf and what color his underwear is, but the only authority anyone can point to is the actual writer.

And no, this stuff isn’t exactly the lore from GW1. The lore from GW1 is the lore from GW1. And until whoever wrote that actually comes out and says something akin to, “Yeaahh…I meant all that human history stuff to be purely mythical in nature. It’s all legend-speak and origin stories, not what really happened.” Even Jeff Grub didn’t come on board until Nightfall, and he’s the oldest writer on the staff!

If some authentic dude or dudette actually makes a statement claiming something like my above quote, I’ll never post again in these forums. Cereally.

Now, if you really think that it’s perfectly legit for a current author to overwrite a past author simply because they have the legal right to do so, we have a serious problem. Because I can’t argue logically with that kind of willful disregard for honesty, respect, and plain common sense.

Why do you keep making the argument then?

You seem to like to bring up this subject on these forums. Which leads to whatever poor thread that is hosting it get completely thrown off subject, because it leads to arguments between you and other forumites. That same argument then gets repeated, each and every time you bring up this subject.

The starting with a collective consciousnes is possible but the Great Dwarf being the collective consciousness is confirmed by dev interview.

GuildMag: Can you give us more information on the Great Dwarf, is he really a god or more like a powerful spirit (like the spirits of the wild)?

Jeff Grubb: The Great Dwarf can best be thought of as collective consciousness of the dwarves themselves (indeed, in making the prophesy of the Great Dwarf defeating the Great Destroyer coming true). Has anyone MET the Great Dwarf, and found him to be a real being? Well, that has not happened. http://www.guildmag.com/gmblitz-lore-interview-with-jeff-grubb

1) Stating over and over the current lore is unassailable truth is not a “decent” response by most people’s standards. If one can’t bring oneself to look at something critically, why bother having an opinion at all? The “why” is almost always more important than the “who/what/where/when.”
