Q:

For some reason, this has been in the back of my thoughts for a long time, and I haven’t seen any answers for it on the wiki (and apologies if there is a thread about this already, I went a few pages back and never found one).

But here’s the thing. I have not once ran into a lion in Tyria, not as an enemy, not as an acquirable ranger pet. The mystery cat tonic does turn you into a lion—but clearly a female lion, with no mane. However, it’s very clear that lions are very important symbols to the lore. Lion’s Arch, Black Lion Company, Lionguard, etc. There used to be a very cool fountain in Lion’s Arch depicting a lion, and the Black Lion’s flag is a golden lion on a black field.

So are Lions real? In our world, Gryphons and dragons are mythological creatures, but in Tyria they’re real. Could lions be the equivalent of unicorns for the tyrian people?

There was already a topic on this, but the search function doesn’t seem to work rigth now, atleast not for me, so I can’t provide you a link. Anyway, yes Tyria has lions, in Elona to be exact.

Also they could have lived in continental Tyria and just went extinct. Europe used to have a population of lions too until the about 300 B.C. and they were still used as symbols of power much later.

You don’t win friends with salad! Sorry I just got caught up in the rhythm.

What BuddhaKeks said. There is a lot of lion symbology on Europe’s history and Lions were on Africa for that time. Same here with Tyria and Elona.
