@ArenaNet Will more GW1 Lore come to GW2?
We learnt what happened to Glint in the GW2 novel Edge of Destiny, allusions to it are also made at various points in game.
The Sceptre of Orr possibly comes up in Sea of Sorrows when Livia shows up, but I haven’t managed to read past the first couple of chapters so I can’t say that for certain.
If I remember correctly most if not all of the Forgotten went into the redeemed realm after Kormir’s ascension.
There are plenty of hints towards the Mursaat and the White Mantle throughout the human personal storyline and in Orr, considering we have a dungeon path devoted to the Mursaat.
Saul’s story is given in the GW1 bonus mission pack, I honestly don’t think there’s really any more to his story…
As for Devona, Mhenlo etc. I imagine that Anet would be hesitant about stating anything much about them since they’re kind of like the in game lore stand ins for the player character in GW1.
Honestly there are a lot of easter eggs throughout GW2. They have been careful with stuff like the gods though because they don’t want to make the GW2 storyline too human biased (although I think the amount they’ve restricted it has been detrimental but I can at least understand what they’re trying to do).
(Also you may want to change the title of this topic because direct callouts to Anet or their staff are against the forum code of conduct.)
I distinctly remember Anet saying that they acknowledge people want the Living Story to be connected more with old lore instead of just introducing new lore. It was in one of the Collaborative Development threads.
I confirm that the Scepter of Orr is spoken of in the thirg Guild Wars 2 novel. We learn a lot about Zhaïtan’s rising and the lore of Orr from this book.
Glint, and to a lesser extent the mursaat, are covered, though as Foxx said a lot of the Glint stuff is in a book. The others seem to have dropped off the radar entirely for the time being.
As for the Scepter of Orr in Sea of Sorrows… “Some years ago, I came into possession of an artifact of great power, a remnant of that lost civilization. A scepter. I’ve spent many years studying it. Yes, I know what Orrian magic could do when Orr was alive.” That’s it, and it’s not much more than what we already knew. An implication that Livia still had the Scepter in 1256. Many of us also have played connect-the-dots and think that the Scepter is why she was/is so long-lived, but at the moment that is only unsubstantiated theorycrafting.
@FlamingFoxx All that was said of the Forgotten is that the ones already in the Realm of Torment took up service to Kormir. We’ve heard nothing of the Crystal Desert forgotten beyond Prophecies, although there are some very minor indicators that they are either dead or gone. It could be as you say, but that is by no means certain. On Saul, I think what OP meant was his fate after he was taken- something I too am exceedingly curious about, though I doubt it’ll ever come to light.
I think there is always a chance that some old lore may come to light. My favorite living story to date was the Zephyrites because of the fact that it connected Glint and the ancient dwarven Brotherhood to the present day. We didn’t get any full details, but it gave us new information and allowed us some room for speculation, which IMO is a perfect scenario.
This is an excerpt from Robert Hrouda during the Queen Jubilee LW update; referencing to why they could not stick in the Mursaat in that particular update.
I originally had the Mursaat/White Mantle as one of the factions. They’re certainly a stronger pick than something like bandits or pirates, but there’s a lot of factors that go into these sorts of things. Creating a new army never before seen is pretty complex and takes a lot of time and iteration. Not only is there a large design cost for it, but art has to create a brand new environment, new armor, new character models, new weapons, and those are not simple tasks either. I played a ton of GW1, so I know their significance. I also knew how much time I had to do this, what my asset request bank was, and knew that I couldn’t do the Mursaat justice… especially with such a small area.
If I’m gonna do Mursaat and White Mantle, I (as a hardcore GW1 player) would want it to be epic and grand. We haven’t ..forgotten..about them, I just have higher expectations for them than what I was capable of putting out in this release.
…and yes I’m proud of that reference.
Unfortunately Robert no longer works at Arena Net. However I can tell you that they have not forgotten. They have stated on numerous occasion they are saving some of these mysteries till latter. At this point the living story has been a drive to fix problems that occurred or cropped up in the game since launch. Like those 2-D artwork background cut-scenes you see in the personal story, which no longer happen in the living story. Believe it or not Scarlet was made to fix one of those issues we had with just dealing with elder dragons. Making her feel more of a personal antagonist. Perhaps when they get everything in order we might start seeing more old content slowly seep back into GW2. The only issue now is that it’s a matter of time. I am still wondering what Jeff Grub has been working on in the background, since he is not been apart of the living story team.
I can’t comment on what Ree and Jeff are working on, but I can say that I’m ultimately responsible for the quality of the Living World story. I don’t imagine we’ll please everyone with our new direction, but that’s true of any story. That stated, I encourage people to leave their feedback. Just please be respectful.
Anyways hopefully we don’t have to wait years on end to see nothing but teasers of something that would eventually lead to nothing. I am hoping that they can pull of something that we were not expecting, but in a extraordinary superb way.
