Ascalonians in Branded Areas
Hmm i think its more likely that ghosts cannot be corrupted or branded. After all they are just vengeful spirits without bodies. As far as i know there is not corrupted/ branded/ icebrood ghosts ingame. Also all dragon’s seem to corrupt the bodies of their victims binding or destroying the mind/soul of its previous owner. So in that line of toughts ghosts are incorruptible by dragon powers (at least if thy died not corrupted).
It could be that they are dead and theyfore have no bodies to corrupt, but then why are there weapons in orr that float and attack you without having a body holding them.
Or it could be that the Foefire spell is stronger than the dragon corruption, what little time he spent flying over the land. It could be that he would require more time to corrupt the ghosts.
But even if the last part is true, would you really want to unleash another spell with the power of Foefire to destroy the dragons. I couldn’t imagine the level of destruction it would unleash.
Each Dragon seems to corrupt differently.
In this case, Kralkatorrik appears to need something of substance to corrupt. The Ghosts seem to be immune to the corruption in similar ways to how Sylvari cannot be raised as Risen by Zhaitan’s corruption.
Zhaitan as Kalas pointed out doesn’t seem to be restricted to corrupting only mortal Flesh. This can be seen in the case of the Eyes of Zhaitan, as well as the Spectral Weapons, and Wraiths who all appear to be connected to Spirits in some fashion.
Kralkatorrik seems to corrupt physical, especially solid, things. Only exception seems to be the sparks, though they may not be corrupted air elementals but air elements created by the corruption (since there’s a lot of lightning present). Even the water is (mostly?) untouched.
Ghosts are not physical, and thus it’s only to be expected they’re not corrupted.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
To be fair, Magdaer was a sword of Orr, created to be a relic of the Six Gods. The Brand was just something Kralkatorrik did as he flew overhead as an afterthought. It wouldn’t be surprised if the Foefire was more powerful. Now, if Kralkatorrik actually went to Ascalon and was actively trying to corrupt the city and the ghosts? That might be a different story.
And a man who trusts no one is a fool.
We are all fools, if we live long enough.”
Aren’t there also corrupted earth elementals?
So that’s a bit weird too

It makes sense to me – the Brand quite clearly affected the land itself, and also living, corporeal things in it. Earth elementals are both earth/rock/land and creatures, but they fall into Kralkatorrik’s possible minions pool either way.
And yes, like those above, I would assume Kralkatorrik cannot/does not corrupt the incorporeal.

What’s weird isn’t the existence of Branded Earth Elementals, but the fact that these “Branded” Earth Elementals are 100% the same as standard Earth Elementals.
At least Pyrite Elementals in Orr are golden versions of Earth Elementals. >.>
