The Lunar New Year Festival vendor, Phaedra, said, “Beauty often conceals wickedness.”
Huh?
Often? What, you can’t be beautiful and kind?
When I googled the phrase, the total quote came up, though no attribution was given.
“Beauty often conceals wickedness–-true beauty is not measured by appearance but by actions and deeds.”
Perhaps a little tweak to her dialogue would be appropriate.
Beauty sometimes conceals wickedness, or beauty can conceal wickedness.
Just my two coppers.

Beauty by definition refers to physical appearance (ie. beauty pageant). Wickedness refers to having a sinister agenda.

It’s basically just a crappier version of “don’t judge a book by its cover”.

“Beauty by definition refers to physical appearance (ie. beauty pageant).”

No it doesn’t. And it never did. Beauty as a concept going back to Greece actually referred explicitly to artistic endeavors, some of which are obviously not visual, like … singing.

What artistic endeavor did Sleeping Beauty do?

You are aware that “Sleeping Beauty” is the name of the story not the character right? Briar Rose is her real name.

Stop playing at madness.

I have to agree. Often does not equal always.

I hope the Devs use their time and resources for something….else.

Agree with OP. “Often” implies that something occurs more frequently than not. But it’s nonsense to declare that “beauty often conceals wickedness” when the ugly can just as easily be wicked as frequently or more frequently than the beautiful.

I’m sensing a politically correct/SJW agenda here from the writers.

Stop playing at madness.

“Sleeping Beauty” (French: La Belle au bois dormant “The Beauty Sleeping in the Wood”) by Charles Perrault or “Little Briar Rose” (German: Dornröschen) by the Brothers Grimm is a classic fairy tale written by Charles Perrault, which involves a beautiful princess, a sleeping enchantment, and a handsome prince."

If Beauty doesn’t refer to physical appearance what artistic endeavor did Briar Rose, described as the ‘The Beauty sleeping in the Woods’ and and as ‘a beautiful princess’, do to earn the appellation of beauty/beautiful?

Unless it’s changed since last year, Phaedra will give ambient dialogue when interacted with based on a worshiper of one of the Six Gods, a random one depending on what instance you load into. That particular line sounds like a Lyssa line.

If you spam-interact with her, you should be able to get other Lyssa lines out of her. And then when you come back on another day and load into a different Divinity’s Reach instance, you might get Kormir lines or Melandru lines instead.

Actually literally not the same thing! Often, sometimes, and can are three literally completely different concepts.

I was just causing kitten. I don’t really care that much what Phaedra says. Just thought it was odd that that particular statement snuck through. Meh.
I agree with Inculpatus cedo that the devs should use their time for something more productive!
Great information from Xiahou Mao about the Six Gods.
