My money would go to Shiro Tagachi. We had a chance to play as Turai Ossa himself in the Bonus Mission Pack in GW1; I don’t think he could stand up to Shiro in a fight.

The greatest Warriors in Tyrian are as follows:
Kilroy Stonekin, because he’s amazing http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Kilroy_Stonekin
Koss, because he killed a god and has an epic fro http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Koss
Little Thom, because of Hamstorm http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hamstorm

However, should we include assassins and other such martial professions in our analysis, I believe you all would agree that one stands far above the rest.
Behold!
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Vael
VAEL, the deadliest and most mysterious combatant in Tyrian history. He is so great, in fact, that legend says that in order to gain his favor, heroes had to slaughter legions of barbaric Charr. Should they do this, and collect 250 of idols worshiped by the beasts, he would give the heroes a mask of ninjaness and let them join his club of amazingness.

Undoubtedly you agree with this selection, however, should some of you reprobates still insist that moron Shiro stands above the highly awesome Vael, I would remind you that no self-respecting warrior of any kind would allow this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpPR_28raac to happen.
What kind of idiot sits inside of 6 AoEs? He’s not even snared! He’s supposed to be an endgame boss, but he’s just standing there like a pansy. Placing this compelling piece of evidence aside, somehow this reputed “warrior” manages to get himself killed AGAIN in the afterlife http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnYeo2YY6DM in an equally shameful manner.

So in conclusion, Vael wins. haha

Anet has a habit of making disappointing end-game bosses, just to make more challenging post-end-game bosses (Iron Forgeman>Undead Lich; Urgoz/Kanaxai>Shiro; Mallyx>Abaddon; Duncan>The Great Destroyer; Giganticus Lupicus>Zhaitan). But this is a mechanical thing, not a lore thing, as is one’s AI behavior, and we talk lore not mechanics.

Dear ANet writers,

Ignoring the manner (mechanics) of Shiro’s demise(s), he did manage to get himself killed 3 times. First by Vizu/Archemorus/Victor (losers,) second by Mhenlo and Co. ( mostly losers,) and thirdly by Koss and Dunk and Co. (winners.) If, in fact, Shiro is supposed to be a great fighter, according to lore, this fact must be recalled in light of the fact he was an idiot that managed to die three times despite possessing superior powers than the motley band of heroes who eventually killed him.
In my mind, AI mechanics represent active lore, and should not be discredited.

I don’t remember their ever being a good swordsman in GW, the more powerful beings always seemed to be the ones who could use magic. GW2 changed this by implementing more powerful swordsmen but as a whole there is no swordsman in GW that would really make me stop and stare in awe at their skill.

Shiro was good but he was also a user of magic just not to the point where it made him seem like less of a swordsman. Unfortunately because he is soloable so I can’t give him the trophy.

If I had to give it somebody it’d have to be rurik simply because he was able first to use 100b as much as I despise him.

Add more sound effects to The Minstrel plz.

Since when did losing in a battle that’s 1 versus many consitute as “being an idiot” (note: when Shiro first died, it wasn’t just Vizu/Viktor/Archemorus, but those three plus a group of Imperial, Kurzick, and Luxon soldiers – those three were just the last standing when Shiro died – on a similar manner, Shiro was killed by 9+ individuals (depending on how lore treats the presence of the henchmen which are always more than the party limit) when he returned after becoming human again, and btw among them were eventual-god-slayers; and the third time though he was allied with Khilbron, he was again facing, again 9+ individuals who, again, would be god-slaying heroes – and they were blessed by the gods).

Shiro was at a (sometimes large) numerical disadvantage each time, and he still managed to cause problems.

Judging by your response, I don’t think you quite got that I wasn’t being completely serious.
Shiro was obviously extremely adept with weapons, thereby becoming the Emperor’s bodyguard. However (in my belief) the only reason he was AS powerful as he was during his first encounter (Harvest Ritual) was because he had been chosen/blessed/whatever by Abaddon to cause chaos in Cantha. The mere presence of supernatural powers before this encounter does much to discredit Shiro’s personal prowess.
The context of his second demise was much different. Shiro was an Envoy (i.e supernaturally powerful) prior using Togo to come back to life. I don’t particularly know if this power was retained after his reincarnation, but taking into account the kinds of skills his uses in the Imperial Sanctum mission, like banishing random people to an island, or floating in the air absorbing damage, I would say he was stilled fueled by external magical sources.
As for Gate of Madness, I have to assume since Abaddon adopted Shiro as one of his generals that he became more demonic than mortal.
Now, what does this have to do with anything? Shiro managed to get himself killed three times, as I already said. However, in each of these three contexts, he possessed divine (can an evil god be divine?) support from Abaddon and still managed to die. My point is, he may have been the best swordsman or whatever at some point, but the mere fact that he was imbued with so much dark magic, and was defeated on three different occasions taints his legacy in my mind.

Actually, in the first instance he did not have divine power from Abaddon. Abaddon merely used a fortune teller to push him to kill the emperor, but he didn’t have any magic from Abaddon. The only magic he did have was the “Divine Blessing of Dwayna” that the Emperor was assumed to have gained from the Harvest Festival. We do not know if this magic he held could be used to influence his fighting skills or not, the only proven effect of this magic was being twisted and released in the Jade Wind.

My personal favourite pick if we talk Tyria the world is Turai Ossa, if mainly for his sheer kittenery, but also partly because I just don’t know that much about Shiro Tagachi. Then again, Shiro Tagachi did seem overwhelmingly in the Factions trailer, so hard to say. If we talk Tyria the continent, it’s between Rurik or Adelbern for me.

(P.S. I personally tend to ignore game mechanics and bad AI when it comes to lore.)

Going by the raw numbers of just how many people Avoid him …. Kohler :\

Though there’s some truth in Shiro’s mastery too considering that most of the time we always had to make him defeat himself with Spoil/Empathy unless there was an E/Mes charging money to Echo Storm it…

.

But going off of History-History for Raw power, even before the Guildwars & the super arcane magics were sealed away … It was probably one of the Forgotten. I mean these little guys had to first compete with Seers, Mursaat, and Giants. And then they were also the primary motivation + driving force that beat the Dragons the first time. We probably just never heard about ‘em b/c the Forgotten don’t make a big deal about names. If you’re really good, you don’t need to brag.

The problem with it being forgotten is that for the most part they are magic users. We do not see any forgotten wielding swords, axes, daggers, hammers, or anything. Much like the Mursaat they created enchanted beings to wield weapons for them.

What about MAGNI THE BISON
There is a competition to fight him and before you finally get to fight him you have to fight against all the other ones:
Talon Silverwing, Devona, Kilroy, Koss, Little Thom, Lukas, and a lot of others including powerful enemies (lorewise) like Palawa Joko, Ghostly Hero
edit: to make any doubts fly away: you also have to fight The Great Zehtuka^^

so you have to fight all these before you are allowed to finally fight versus Magni the Bison because he is the best
.. and he is really hard too if you fight him with a “normal” build (no racial skills like “You Move Like a Dwarf!”, no super special builds like 55hp… and SpiritSpammer Ritualist is overpowered in 1vs1 anyway^^)

or maybe
Kanaxai?
but i think he uses magic and is more of a powerful demon than a master of weapons though….

Ok people c’mon… She was only mentioned once in this thread and given the facts that you guys are taking into account… the obvious winner is Devona!!

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Devona

I mean, just look at the freaking places she has been to, the enemies she has defeated:

1. Captain of the Ascalonian Army and a member of “Ascalon’s Chosen”, group of elite warriors.
2. Survived the Searing.
3. Gained ascension, bested the Mursaats, an Undead Lich and his army of Titans.
4. Gained the respect of the Luxons/Kurzicks and with them beated Shiro (technically Shiro and the Lich were killed twice xD).
5. Recruited personally by Kormir to join the Order of Whispers.
6. Defeated the God Abbadon and beated the hell out of hundreds of Margonites in his realm (although I don’t quite remember if you can take henchmen to the DoA… well before that she killed plenty of Margonites).
7. Defeated a champion of the Elder Dragon Primordius and his army of Destroyers.
8. Witnessed the wedding of Gwen and Thackeray.

I mean… let’s just /thread this.

P.D. I’m aware that the credit for this reasons goes to our characeters, but who doesn’t loves to take her into the party and see how she smashes things?

Actually I do not believe that the henchmen gained ascension, only our player characters. If I remember right this was the reasoning behind why henchmen couldn’t enter the Fissure of Woe or the Underworld, but I do not have proof of this other than the fact that when we ascend it is only the Player Character and his doppelganger. One could say that the others faced a similar trial in order to get through, but we never see this, nor do we have any proof of it.

That makes sense, I tried to find more information about it but couldn’t >.<

Boy I need to replay that campaign, can’t really remember much about it. Yeah I thought that they eventually got ascended because it was required to see the Mursaats (please correct me if I’m wrong), only through Ascension can you obtain the “Gift of True Sight”…

Yeah, but the dwarves also fight the mursaat in the missions that we see them in. So there is always the chance that the mursaat had gone all out war on people and had abandoned their stealth anyways. It is a possibility that being phased out (which is what we are told through Explorable Arah is what they did) didn’t allow them to use their magic to it’s full devastating potential. This is all theory, it could also be that the dwarves were all gifted with true sight as well. In the end, it is just something that we will have to just wait for more information on.

Did Shiro get soloed with Spirits? Nope… he BANISHED people to THEM instead.

And he still wasn’t the best even in recent history.
Though you may be getting closer when you mention Kanaxai… #1: he’s intended to be content that FOLLOWS Shiro and was actually a lot harder to beat before YMLAD. #2: for the Gold-Seller rates to real money conversion that one of his MINIS was worth, you could buy a newish Used CAR. yes

in GW2 you can find a book written by him
“The Art of Fighting” by Magni the Bison (look it up in GW2wiki)

that proves again that he is a very good fighter when he even writes a book about the art of fighting!

My picks:
Vizu – she disarmed Shiro Tagachi single-handedly and she could kill him but she let Viktor and Archemorus fulfill the deed.

Koss – he surely made a name for himself, seeing as people are still selling his autobiographies.

Palawa Joko – defeated Turai Ossa in a duel and Turai was one powerful guy, he ended up as a guide to the Hall of Heroes.

Goren – the Great Princes of Vabbi can afford the best and Goren was a personal bodyguard.

General Bayel – an Ascalonian who became a Kournan general and an advisor to Warmarshal herself through his own hard work and skill. Powerful fighter indeed.

These are those who deserve and seem underrated in this thread. If we assume PC is not taken into account and it’s a duel. If we’re to consider the most dangerous person in Tyria, I’d pick the Master of Whispers. You don’t know him. You don’t know his men. He knows you very well and he can make your favorite apple merchant stick a dagger in your gut if he wants.
