Now i am not talking about the fact that i want Cantha back as soon as possible.

I am raising the question on how it would work and what would be the accompanied szenarios that would occour, if this continent would be reintegrated into the accessable lands.

First off, the last things we know about Cantha that it is a monarchy, akin to the old chinese ways. The whole Cantha area had this chinese, asia, suburban style.

In the last story update the new leader cast out all non-human races in a great war, sealing of the lands to any who try to get in. That is the reason why the canthan Tengu came to Tyria and build the Dominion of Wind.

With Zaithan presumably dead, we now have theoretical access to the waterways to Cantha (if the DPS does not show up, though that would make thing interesting), so the people of Tyria could ask for help there.

The problem here lies within the nature of the politics. A group consisting of all races, against a only human group.
This is bound to create conflict.

It does not matter which group goes over there to negotiate, it is bound to have races other then human in it. Be it Lions Arch or the Pact. They all consist of members of different races.

A sole human advance would not work in the multi-racial story telling a-net is going for.

Let`s go with the idea of the Pact approaching the Cantha boarders with their ship/airship.

By going there they could be attacked up front or beeing allowed to speak, with varying success, depending on how much has changed.

Either way, i do not think that going there we get welcomed with open arms.

An attack o war with Cantha would not benefit, so we either have to give up on that front, or we have to find a way to get our voice heard.

For that we need to go into the lands first, but how? The Order of Whipsers might know a way. They were traveling in secret for hundreds of years, were even able to bridge the crystal desert between tyria and elona. They might have a way to sneak fellow pact member in.

From here on we can find out what is going on in that unknown land. Are the people happy with the regime, what has changed over 250 years. Is there a way to give us some leverage?

We do not know how Cantha has changed. What their problems are and how our existens would effect them if any.
There exists some artwork which shows a rather advanced asian style cityscape, people associated with cantha, since it was by the artist who did most of the GW2 designs.

To be honest, aside from the fact that cantha is there and it is xenophobic we do not have much information so far. However, what would be your lore based ideas to get it back into play.
Maybe even involving a long arc like i am sugesting here.

I think a large scale war against a human faction is unlikely at this point, it wouldn’t be all that well received by players. That’s part of the reason they went with Alliances and multiple of them for the Scarlet story arc. If players were fighting against a single species foe they would start questioning the relevance/importance of said battle. People already want to know why we aren’t still fighting Dragons xD.

Any story where we don’t have to fight against the majority of the Canthan population. e.g. a story where they need us, e.g. a story where the player is actually the hero (this is something GW2 has consistently failed to do in my opinion – you compare the storylines to those in GW1 where you are quite clearly the hero in every instance.

People playing RPG’s, fantasy RPG’s in particular, want to feel like the hero. GW2 relegates you to a side character which is actually pretty problematic. You’re a minor member of an order, and then you’re Trahearne’s second in command in the Pact. The character is the one who participates in all of the fights – who defeats everything – who defeats Zhatain (obviously with help) but the game consistently downplays the players actions.

I think players aiding in an uprising against a xenophobic government asian influenced government has too many real world parallels to not be percieved in a really really negative way… Not to mention you end up with the whole white, western saviour thing – yes I realise that Tyria is comprised of all skin colours and races, but in the wider spectrum of things Tyria = the Western world, Cantha = East Asia, Elona = Africa. I don’t know, maybe I’m being too pessimistic, but people seem to take offence from things very easily >.>

Yeah that’s true. For all we know Kurzicks far outnumbered Canthans and everyone looks gothic/german now xD. (Actually would not mind that, the Kurzicks were awesome).

I fear the devs want to forget Cantha ever existed. I mean, if they make such a big deal about 5-10 asian styled houses in the corner of a city (canthan district), imagine what they would think about an entire asian themed continent.

It wasn’t the dev’s who made a big deal about it. It is THOUGHT to be someone higher up at NCSoft who kicked up a stink – and it is also thought that it is no longer an issue for one reason or another.

There are definitely a couple of dev’s out there who want to see Cantha make a return, they’ve posted saying as much in the very long Cantha thread in the discussion forum. It’s more a question of when/when they can allocate the resources to it. I definitely don’t think it’s a ‘no’ at this stage.

I agree with Foxx, but with one caveat: ANet, or maybe NCSoft, are putting a lot of emphasis in getting into the East Asian markets. I don’t think we’ll see anything of Cantha until the game settles in over there, and then only if it is believed that it won’t drive away the new players in droves.

I like the idea of ships sailing to Cantha as well, reopening the tradeways and possibly bringing some asura engineers over to setup a portal.

Regardless of how though, I just picture this way of returning to Cantha with a cinematic of a ship or fleet of ship approaching Cantha’s shores and the title theme to Factions playing…

It would make GW2 worth every single cent I’ve spent on game/gems. Don’t get me wrong, it’s already worth it, but that would seal the deal forever!

What would be the storyline be though?…………….

What if Emperor Usoku turned out to be someone we had already met yet never knew he was him?

And what if he turned out to be a not dead Kaineng Tah(the first Emperor of Cantha who’s name is actually his title with his real name being a mystery who is said to have died mysteriously…… that’s if he really died…. which I personally doubt)?

Whoever did it apparently has enough power to completely take out anything Cantha related out of the game, unfortunately.

Actually this should not evolve into the direction of “who is the cause, that we do not have Cantha”, but rather using the knowledge we have allready to think about the likelyhood of szenarios involving the reintroduction of said continent.

I think every acusation anyone can bring to the table has allready been said in the giant Cantha thread.

I would LOVE to have Cantha back! Also Luxon and Kurzick factions..

Yes he is “supposed” to have died yet his death is considered mysterious and thus may have been…………………….. faked!!!!!!!
