Bring back Razah as a villain, and here’s my idea.

ex. why did you abandon me, I followed you and you traveled to the mist and left me behind scenario. persecuted by his own kind [demons] who he betrayed, by joining us and fighting against them, and is now out for vengeance against all humans, for their ancestor’s mistakes.

After centuries of being chased by the demons who once sought to transform him into one of their own, Razah was tortured, and his soul slowly transformed into that of a demon. He has ascended to the rank of Armageddon Lord leading the remains of Abbadon’s army he has decimated the last bastions of defense the forgotten held and within the realm of torment. Razah has now moved his armies through the mist into the underworld with the aid of Dhuum he has greatly weakened Grenth and his armies, Grenth and the 7 Reapers have been pushed back and Razah’s forces have begun to seep into the Tyria.

1) can you get to the underworld from the realm of torment through the mists?
2) could Razah as a tortured soul become an Armegeddon Lord, or only a lesser demon?
3) would there be any possibility that some forces of dhuum could have survived in the realm of torment after Kormir took over?
4) We know that grenth or at least the reapers of grenth have been weakened but by what?
5) Do demons ever die of natural causes/aging?
6) Are the portals in Gods lost Swamp coming from the underworld or are those minions of Mezies, and his shadow army?

Why was Razah abandoned? He was with my character until my character passed away, and I’m pretty sure the guy understands death. Plus, he isn’t a soul, he is flesh and blood.

1) There is a connection. The river of souls in the Realm of Torment takes the souls to the Underworld. Of course whether you can take the river to the Underworld is another question.
2)Well, you would have to kill Razah first, and hope that demons have souls. Razah technically is a demon, because creatures created by the Mists are the definition of demon. Because of this, I am not sure if he has a soul to be tormented into a titan or not, but based on the process, if he has a soul then yes he could technically become a Titan and from there possibly an Armageddon Lord.
3)Probably not, but this doesn’t mean that he didn’t just create more. Grenth seems to be having some troubles, so it’s possible that Dhuum has taken control of some of the Underworld, or just has been freed and moved elsewhere.
4)No clue. Nothing has been given to us.
5)Unknown. I do not think we’ve seen any demons for long enough to have a clue about their age. Although Margonites can apparently live for over a millennium so I wouldn’t be surprised.
6)The aataxe’s that come through have been seen all over the Underworld and are more closely related to Grenth than Menzies, although everything seems to point to them being more like natural beings of the area as opposed to part of an evil army. Shades also bear a resemblance to a necromancer minion, so this IMO points to them having more of a connection to the Underworld than Menzies as well.

@Infamous Darkness: I’m not really sure why Razah would turn evil, nor why he would feel abandoned because the GW1 heroes died off. Heck, for all we know he’s chilling with the ghosts of the GW1 PCs in the Hall of Heroes.

To your questions:

1. Yes, via the Bone Pits.
2. Not directly. As Narcemus said, you’d have to kill Razah, since he’s a living being, and hope that he has a soul (which IMO is unlikely). Then you’d have to perform the ritual which creates titans – which may even require multiple souls if my theory on them is right – and hope that the titan he turns out to be is an Armageddon Lord. Too many variables.
3. Theoretically, yes. It depends on how thorough the clean-up duty was.
4. Technically speaking, we don’t know Grenth or his Reapers got weakened. He merely states “Grenth wishes him returned, but I am too weak to perform the task.” This only tells us that the reaper is too weak to kill that risen. This may be for many reasons – traveling to Tyria weakens him (like it seems to weaken Thorn, hence why on Halloween he’s just a joker and trickster – this would also explain why the gods’ avatar do nothing but give blessings in GW1); something in Orr (such as Zhaitan absorbing magic) has weakened him after traveling to Tyria; the reaper is just a weakling; or something in the Mists has been weakening him.
5. Not to our knowledge, but we have nothing to point to them having a natural lifespan either. Margonites – formerly humans who were turned demonic – are known to have lived over a thousand years (Jadoth, specifically) but are sterile.
6. They’re portals to the Underworld. Aatxes are natural inhabitants of the Underworld. And Shades seem to simply be dark spirits.

Uh, the River of Souls does NOT connect to the Underworld. I don’t know why people keep thinking this, as nothing in the game implies this. The gw.dat even states that the River of Souls leads to an abyss – where they’re stored for food by demons – though this is most likely prior to the damming). Where it leads naturally is unknown.

To chime in briefly on the demon lifespan, in addition to the Margonites there is the precedent of the Fortune Teller, a demon who we know was at least 200 years old when our GW1 characters put it down. 250 isn’t a large stretch from that.

True, and considering that there’s a titan who’s known to be over 100 years old (captured by the Order of Whispers 100 years prior to GW1).

Though on the demonic fortune teller… how do we know it/she was still living by Nightfall? We only saw it in the Realm of Torment, and Shiro supposedly killed the fortune teller himself when still a living normal human.

You make a good point. I always thought that the Fortune Teller was stage acting there at the end, and had not truly suffered a mortal wound, but existence is probably a more useful term here than lifespan. Which begs the question, can demons truly be destroyed? There are so many unknowns with that sort of entity, which leaves a lot of room for Razah to return in a myriad of ways, but rather frustrates efforts to put any basis to our speculation.

Thank you all for your input and knowledge I guess what got me off on this was the dialogue with Razah in the quest “finding a purpose” where he says “Abaddon bound me to this plane. His minions blessed me with knowledge to fulfill a great purpose.”

Any ideas to what this Great Purpose could have been?

Well I can only think of two situations here.

1) When I started getting into the lore I read the wiki constantly absorbing everything I could about the game for about 4 years, taking it’s information as truth. It wasn’t until this last year that I started learning the truth about the fallible state of the wiki’s, but by then I had absorbed a lot of information and still haven’t rooted out all of the misconceptions, this could very well have been one of them

2) I at some point took the reference of the River of Souls to the River Styx in greek mythology too seriously and made the assumption that the River of Souls goes to the Underworld.

Either way, thanks for pointing out my misconception, and feel free to point me back to the right track every time I make a blatant mistake.
