As you may or may not have noticed, there are 3 continents on the world of Tyria (Tyria, Cantha, Elona). I have not played Guild Wars 1 so i do not know the story, but I do know enough to know that these continents have not contacted Tyria in hundreds of years. Even though Arena net has said it most likely wont put out an expansion, whats your opinion on whether or not they will put Cantha and Elona into the storyline?

If they end up with an expansion or similar release format, I’d say pretty good. If they stick to the Living Story… well, I’m not holding my breath.

I think that one of the main goals of Living Story is to reintroduce and bring back people to areas that are already in-game. It’s why we had so much stuff to collect from various zones around Tyria for every achievment completition.
However, I’m rather convinced that if we see some serious expanding of territory like Cantha or Elone, we’ll get xpac.
Not too sure about rest of Tyria+ Tyrian undergrounds though

I’d like to point out that they went from a “firmly confident LS will be our way of introducing expansion level content” to a “we really don’t know how we’ll continue to provide expansive content” in the most recent interview with Colin.

I think if the masses continue to chant for an expansion, we’ll likely get one in the future. From then on, I’d see the LS as the content in between expansions, sort of like how MMO’s like WoW release new tiers of raids in between expansions.

Which is really interesting, because then we could get a whole season of story that directly leads into an expansion, as opposed to just having them pop up out of nowhere.

I really hope you’re right, and there is talk among the more optimistic portions of the community that sees most of the company being tied up in projects they can’t talk about as a sign that an expansion is in development. If that is the case, though, I really wish they’d tell us. We could use that kind of hype right now.

They need that hype in close future. With release of Wildstar, TESO, they will announce something bigger to release, probably 2-3 months after Wildstar premiere. Marketing, baby.

They’d be more likely to announce something either just before or at the same time as Wildstars release (Judging on the overwhelmingly negative reviews TESO is nothing to worry about), 2-3 months after doesn’t help so much because Wildstar is a sub game and after 1 month GW2 would see players return with the expiration of their sub. But Wildstar and GW2 are both owned by NCSoft so Arenanet is likely to be strongly discouraged from any attempt to release or announce a large content release around the same time as Wildstars launch.

First off all.
There are 3 known continents. There is a lot more world then that.

Also, the continent off Elona and Tyria could also be considered to be the same continent. It depends a bit on what continent you use.

Also, the masses are not chanting for a traditional expansion. There are some complaining it is taking them too long to come out with expansion type content, as this is a forum, those voices are more visable.

I don’t care how they introduce it, as long as they introduce some good content. This means ready when it is ready. not ready cause some are impatient and are pushing them to bring a bad product.

Also cause this this is posted in the lore section, I would ask to concentrate on that part of the question.

To answer that. I do not think that places outside of Tyria will be visited soon. They might have some loose long term plans, but for now Tyria itself has too much world too explore. Among them:
Maguuma Wastes
Fire islands
Deldrimor front
Crystal dessert
Far shiverpeaks
Charr homelands
and the things above DR (forgot the name;) )

Specially going to Cantha very soon would feel like they would leave Tyria (continent) unfinished.. Elona is more likely to be opened when we go into the crystal desert, but not by definition.

Arise, opressed of Tyria!

Wildstar = Hardcore player à la WoW vanilla/bc.

Gw2 = Casual player who like adventure and zerg.

Not the same players, not really a competition between them. TESO aim for the player more casual like GW2, but it will fall hard like a whale jumping down of a building. ( source : weekend beta player and the media overall negative review ( Angry joes as made the honest one i think. ) ) .

For Cantha and Elona, the only way it could fit with living story, it’s with an ‘’invasion ’’ story : each 2 week, a new zone it’s open and the front line continu in the land of ( cantha/Elona) .

TESO PvP is awesome though, TESO’s killer will be the 15$ per month fee and the lack of fast paced action in regular gameplay. Also locking off an entire race just for the collector edition buyers is a very stupid move.

But I expect at least a minor announcement regarding an epic upcoming storyline to rival the MMO competition. Marketing wise that would make sense, even if Wildstar and GW2 are both owned by NCSoft.
