Charr Storyline: What happens to our warband?
Sorry, but no dice. They are neither seen nor heard from again after you join an order. They just become part of the home instance background.
Yeah… this is the biggest disappointment from me in the Personal Storyline. My character is treated like she’s simply an individual, and while she eventually gets the title of Commander… she’s never treated as such, and instead made out more as a glorified footman (Sometimes Sergeant) – Except she’s also a Centurion in the Iron Legion. Yes, she was given a reprieve from duty to serve the orders – yet, honestly, I can’t imagine seeing the Orders as anything other than a means to an end to help end a threat bigger than the one the legions could handle, and her loyalty should have remained with her legion. I could understand being a free agent to serve the orders individually – but once my character was appointed Second-in-command of the Pact, I felt there should have been a way to return to the Legion. After all, she IS a centurion, and thus should have authority over multiple warbands, even if she didn’t need/exercise it prior to the order excursion. Why NOT bring in what assistance she’s authorized to directly from her homeland to take the fight to Orr?
… then again, it could be argued that, since you haven’t seen them for so many levels, that the conflict is completely out of the original warband’s league.
Of course, part of the problem is that the Charr personal story is so unique because it puts the character as a leader in a military organization, instead of just an accessory.
Yeah Charr personal story was pretty decent. But eventually all the stories converge and thus your character loses a lot of the personal of the personal story.

The first two arcs, anyway. The third felt inexplicably unfinished.
Lore-wise, your warband stays behind at Black Citadel under the command of your “sparring partner” from character creation performing their usual duties until you’re done with your Order work, at which point I guess you’d go back and resume command. Of course, since the personal story ends up thrusting you into the Pact and just sort of ends with you as a high-ranking Pact member, going back never actually happens in-game. Assumedly they stay behind because the Orders don’t really recruit en-masse and only wanted your character specifically, and because they’re still needed at Black Citadel.
Gameplay-wise, it happens that way because all the personal stories converge once you join an order (once you join an order, a Sylvari and a Charr and a Human all have identical stories), and thus they couldn’t really use the warband at all because other characters from other races don’t really have access to any groups like that.
One of the reasons the personal story just feels so incredibly unfinished.
You never hear from your warband again (charr)
You never hear from your sister again (human)
You never hear from your krewe again (asura)
The list goes on. there are just so many loose ends.

To be fair, one of the asuran krewes has the possibility of returning later on, as does the sister. It’s still bad odds- one in six for asura and one in three for the humans with dead sisters- but it’s still better than the complete zero chance for the charr warband.

It’s not really worse or better.

I feel it is. I’m less upset with the implementation preventing me from experiencing the whole story than I am with the feeling that the story was just forgotten about, and left, as you said, unfinished.
If they could get the warband/krewe/whatever into the living story at some point that’d be great. Races that don’t get that can just have arbitrary companions I guess.

Well I did play along in another player’s Personal Story to see another side to “Air Drop”, and “my sister” Crusader Deborah did show up in there. And the armor group was the same one in my norn’s “got drunk at the last moot” Personal Story branch . . .
Don’t know yet about charr warbands, because your character leaves them behind at the Black Citadel to continue operations under your sparring partner and they have no real reason to show up in the Pact storyline at all.
If the krewe blew themselves up in a magical mishap a la Thaumanova, I wouldn’t care. Less asura in the world makes it a safer and more stable place.

. . . and?
If the whole of the asura just vanished in a puff of aether, it’d be fine with me. After all, you can’t be racist against a race which doesn’t exist . . .

You mean, other than the need to get all the allies we can muster against the dragon? Once the pact starts, I’m done with my faction – time to resume my command in the High Legions, to bring the might of the one I serve (And two I’ve gained the respect of) to bear against the Orrian threat.
The charr:
- The Personal Story allows you to start and recruit again:
- your fellow partner,
- your father (optionally),
- a NPC saved (an elementalist if I remember)
- You could have recruited all the worthy NPC you encouter in your quests, and at least a honorable gladium in the Black Citadel, and even a non-charr because your warband is not the everyone’s warband, but the personal body guard of your Legion’s Second in command (you). I’d have ended the PS with a complete and ready for action warband (made out of gladiums), the real spec-op of my legion.
- Also, what do you think about the #2 or #3 in the Ash Legion hierarchy (you) entering any Order? Seriously, no double agent here? I’d have a single PS mission to return at the Black Citadel and discuss with my Legion Commander, and Rhytlock about what is the charr purpose. I believe that it would have helped you to feel like a charr.
- Then there is the elite skill: two chars from my legion appearing from nowhere… couldn’t have they been from my own warband (appearing from nowhere as well)?
- The warband could have follow you in the Pact (and before), not helping you in the fights, just being there, showing at the beginning of an instance… They would have been your eyes and hears, your scouts, your escort. Belonging to the Vigil, you would have found an atypical group of charrs at Vigil Keep (and then at other outposts further south when the PS unfolds), in Legion uniform : your guys. Salute and dialogues when you approaches… The same was possible at the Chantry because it’s an instance too (that could have been private). For the Priory, I don’t know (if a public zone, you would need a big group from the three legions…).
You have a new warband now whether you like it or not (the biconics).
I actually liked my warband more than the NPCs I met later in the story (certainly more than the Living Story characters) so it’s a real shame that part of the character’s identity is just ignored in the story. Some of the other NPCs weren’t bad either (Quinn and Petra were pretty ordinary but Faren was pretty cool – too bad he has more scenes these days with Kasmeer than he does with his best friend, asuran Krewes were hit and miss imo, Malyck is incredibly interesting and most of the norn stuff was fun).
It probably requires too many resources to bring them back (there are several possible options and that’s just for charr, to do so for all races would take a lot of work) so I doubt we will ever see them again unless they play a minor role when the Personal Story continues.
