Charr, where did they come from?
They certainly did not crash from space. Well maybe they did a few thousand years ago, but the Black Citadel wasn’t around in GW1 while the charr were definitely. It’s stated that they came from the east, lands probably not on the map (not counting that leaked world map). If you’re really interested, the Guild Wars wiki’s are great to look for quick info → http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Charr
Excellent Thank you a bunch Jelle! I’ll go check them out.
Spawned from the festering cesspool of 4chan, with a hint of Advice Dog DNA and the desire to turn those soft sissy inside things you call emotions into raw manliness. Charr were spawned from a vortex of awesomeness that spewed chocolate-covered hundred dollar bills and caused it to rain naked woman for 1000 years.
There is noting bovine about them… at all. Some of the horns could be bull…ish, but most of them show much different variety. The horns is just there to make them seem more fierce and… hellish.
As already mentioned the black citadel was built after the time of GW1 and before GW2 ofc. So it is no crashed craft.
Is it possible they came form space/themists. Could be. We do know that other races (or at least humans) were brought from somewhere else. Personally I find it interesting that what for us naturally seem like the least alien race, may be the actual aliens of the planet called Tyria. Or was, they been there for an awfully long time now.
They aren’t the only aliens. Forgotten were claimed to be brought to Tyria by the gods as well, and Harpies are rumored to be the fallen servants of Dwayna, thus from another realm as well.
“No longer clamoring over the same territories, the unified Charr spread throughout the northern reaches of their homeland, and down into the lands east of the Shiverpeak Mountains.”

This line implies that they came from east of the Blazeridge, expanded north, then went west past the Blazeridge and back south into Ascalon (making an n shape in movement).
Given the rest of the Ecology of the Charr’s beginning about how primitive they were originally, I doubt they’re from space unless they’re space kittens who mutated thanks to magic. They are most likely just a naturally evolved race (perhaps with some magical aid).
@Narcemus: Given that the forgotten were around during the last ED rise, the claim that they were brought to the world by the Six is in large question, given that all indications point to the Six Gods coming after the Elder Dragons’ last rise.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Not all indications. They may have just come back or they may have come for the first time as those particular incarnations.
I’m not aware of anything from GW2 which points to the Six Gods being around prior to the last ED rise. Arriving during is possible, though on the latter side of their rise, but we were told explicitly by Ree Soesbee that they arrived on Tyria after the mursaat-seer war and the writing of the original Tome of Rubicon – the former seems to have happened during the last ED rise (being the betrayal that the mursaat did before fleeing) and the latter based on contents at least occurred during the end of the last ED rise.
The only possible indication for the Six Gods being around while the Elder Dragons were last awake would be the fact that the forgotten were around then too. And that bit of lore comes from the History of Tyria which is being proven more and more “wrong” as we learn more lore (first Abaddon, then the creation of the world, then the bloodstones).

Well when a mummy charr doesn’t hate a daddy charr nearly enough to want to punch him in the face all the time (although apparently sometimes that helps too) they will get really, really drunk at meatoberfest and-

So here we are. There is a workable available theory in which both ends of the lore fit neatly. I don’t understand the preference to randomly eliminate one bit in favor of a theory in which something needs to be wrong when there is an alternative readily available.
Anyway, other bits of lore being “wrong” doesn’t validate an unconfirmed theory that eliminates an unrelated unconfirmed piece as wrong. To imply so is disingenuous.
Whoever said it was a preference? I simply said that the fact that the forgotten were around during the last ED rise gives question to the claim that the race was brought to Tyria by the Six Gods – especially since the source which made said claim, as well as many things regarding the Six Gods in GW1, has been “proven wrong” (aka retconned from internal viewpoint, while extrapolated to say one source is wrong while another is right in lore).
I never said the forgotten weren’t brought by the Six, just that there’s evidence and reason to give the notion doubt where previously there was none.
In fact, I myself had presented an explanation in another thread about how the old lore could still work while the new lore is also true (or rather, a hypothesis on a situation which could lead to both being true).
To say I claim something I didn’t is disingenuous.

i think this speaks for itself. But if this last post about how they both can be true is your present point then I can go with it.

Where do Charr come from?
Well, I can tell you it has to do with kitten.
What I won’t tell you however is if that was the forum’s bad word filter in the previous sentence or not :p

I think all that Konig is trying to say is that considering the new information we’ve received, going entirely off of information derived from Human Centric lore is problematic and shouldn’t be the focus of any evidence brought to the field.
However I think that the Forgotten do have a strong link to the Six that can be seen in GW1. Discounting the Crystal Desert Forgotten, because we know that they were living there with Glint, possibly as caretakers to see if she ever relapsed into being all Dragon Championy and not necessarily at the Gods behest.
However we also encountered Forgotten in the Realms of Torment. They were even then Wardens and Prison Guards for Abbadons demons and servants. Even when Kormir rose to Godhood, they were instrumental in the efforts to reclaim the Realm of Torment for the new Human God.
This episode also brings other things to light, such as their ability to navigate the Mists rather effectively. How did the Forgotten get to the Realm of Torment afterall? So although I doubt the Human Gods physically brought the Forgotten to Tyria, I would not discount the possibility of the two being allies of some form considering how the Forgotten seem quite capable of traveling the Mists. I think as the game continues, and if we get the opportunity to meet up with some of snakey-friends we have a good deal to learn on their relationship with the Six.
