So, this is just something that’s been in my head for awhile and I wanted to hear your thoughts. I have no idea if there is any evidence for this out there. So, what age is it that the races are considered adults—namely the human, Charr, and Asura. Sylvari have the equivalent of a coming of age test by waking up from the Dream and Norn seem like the type to do some sort of test to pass into adulthood as well(I could be wrong). Most this post will be based off my observations, which are pretty shallow.

First off, what is the average lifespan of the race? If we ignore the fact that humans age beautifully, I would assume they have the average lifespan of about 60-80 years (adjusted for violent deaths.). I hate to draw outside sources in as well, but typically 15 is considered an adult for human—at least in PnP RPGs. I’d use Gwen as an example, but the Searing kind of forced her to grow up a bit fast.

As for the Charr, I can see their lifespans being shorter just because most likely they’ll die of wounds or in battle. I’m no buff on the Charr, but I would imagine the equivalent of reaching adulthood would be joining your first warband.

The Asura are a toughy, I feel. I would assume adulthood is not even a question, but more of one about credentials. Who built what and who knows the most? I would imagine it might be like the intellectual version of Norn culture.

That being said, what do you guys all think? Is there even evidence for this sort of thing? It’ll be very hard to find the age one is biologically an adult, based off ingame evidence, but we can try to guess when they are generally accepted as one.

A-net said charr mature at about the same age as human but we also know they are walking and eating solid food well before humans children. this likely means they are referring to natural lifespan. a-net also stated that charr society doesn’t have a strict age of when they consider their cubs as adults since they are actively involved in the military at such a young age it is just when they can be independent.

Sylvari fall off the tree as adults. A-net likened what they learn in the dream to reading about things so that probably takes the place of their schooling. Though they are so naive because their schooling is pretty inefficient and random. We don’t know their natural lifespan as the oldest are only 25 years old and no one has died of old age yet.

Norn- I’d agree they probably have some sort of right of passage. probably some hunt that they need to survive. A-net does say they can live to 120 but their lifestyles seldom let them. And they remain vigorous well into old age.

Asura- I would guess when they graduate from their respective college but I don’t know how long that would take. they do however, live about 10% longer than humans.

well if you go to the grove their are saplings that are with an instructor. but for the time they become adults is a bit undetermined because if you made a savarian you know that they are born into the world as adults to fight the dragons but the NPC like saplings not so much. and also being that savarians are tree like folk i would imagine they might be able to live for 500+ years or so like the great red wood trees.

I doubt the age is 15 for humans, since a child in Lions Arch claims shes 15, and Anet made her look 10.

Yeah, that girl is easily forgettable (as in I talked to her once and then never again). XD I was only using D&D as a reference, because that tends to be the case.
