Hi there,

couple of days ago while derping around LA, i found this photo.

The photo highly resembles huge tentacles within high waves, which you will get when a kraken rise, obviously, which is grabbing what is looks like a human and a couple humans are running away.

however i can’t read krytan
so the whole text under the photo is a pure blah blah blah for me.

today i saw the lost shores udpate notes, it says:

They came from beneath the waves—the “karka”, a monstrous new species bent on destruction!

your thoughts?

The posters all basically say ‘look out from the sea, something’s killing people’
The Karka are pictured on one of the posters (the one that people thought was a giant crab of sorts).
While I’m not too keen on having the DSD be a Kraken itself, I wouldn’t mind kraken minions

The Lost Shores official page actually states that the karka were driven from their “murky hives”, presumably by the minions of the DSD, which may be the tentacled monster depicted on the posters. It’s still too early to tell.

Given that the DSD and Zhaitan’s spheres of influence overlap somewhat, one has to wonder if their minions are not already battling it out under the waves though.

DSD is UberQuaggan.

Krakens are not related to karkas. They’re very different, and have been around while the DSD slumbered so no tie there.

The DSD does have tentacled minions, but nothing indicates the DSD itself is like such.

Come again? Zhaitan’s sphere of influence is around Orr. The DSD’s is – at least – in the Unending Ocean which is huge, and we don’t know where in the Unending Ocean either, except underwater.

Well, I think he is pointing to the armada that Zhaitan is supposed to have that patrols the sea of sorrow from Orr to the ring of fire islands. One would assume and if the DSD was, for some reason, moving towards Tyria (continent) that he would run into this armada.

Ships, yes, but underwater? And, truth be told, nothing says the DSD is heading towards continental Tyria – just that is the direction that krait, quaggan, karka, and largos fled towards. And nothing says that’s the only direction they fled to either.

For all we know, the DSD’s minions are incapable of surfacing the water (mind you, that’d be rather silly, but still a possibility – not like “small possibility” stops others from making insane hypotheses).

Don’t forget that Zhaitan has Risen Sharks and Fish too. Some conversations with Sylvari Wardens also have them saying that “some Risen look like they’ve walked across the bottom of the sea from Orr”. That suggests that while Zhaitan’s forces do have ships, he also has forces that move about under the sea that may come into conflict with the DSD’s minions.

Uh, do you remember fighting the undead ships? They are always underwater until they attack.

Allow me to rephrase:

underwater throughout all of Zhaitan’s territory? The bone ships only traverse underwater for surprise attacks, and the risen only walk under the waves when invading (specifically, north). Similarly, said risen sharks and turtles – and other risen in the water – are all close by Orr itself.

The DSD’s exact location is unknown as is its proximity to continental Tyria, and nothing indicates to us that Zhaitan’s forces go underwater to the south or east of Orr, where there’s nothing to outright invade or surprise assault (which, again, is the sole reason why risen go underwater outside the immediate proximity of Orr).

My point being thus:

Nothing indicates the DSD and Zhaitan – or, more specifically, their minions – are or were clashing. And in turn, nothing indicates their sphere of influence overlap.

Well, nothing will ever specifically indicate this unless we see them physically fighting, or we get conversations from people about the battles. I assume this is what you are getting at… Well whatever you seem to think, I am going to HYPOTHESIZE that their spheres are overlapping, and that there are battles, because it makes sense that it could happen.

well first of all i have to appologize for my mediocre english..

I noticed this “Poster” with the two human like charasteristics running scarred away from something that has tentacles. Obviously…

My first toughts were like "hell yeah!! finally someone with guts. A.net will “release the Kraken”

But then i saw the “crab” like thing from the Lost Shore Trailers jumping out of the Water and i was really dissapointed.. i expected … well.. i expected MORE…

i hope this “giant Crab like Monster” (called Karakas if im right) is NOT the only thing that swims and stalks around the Lost Shores…

Sure you all think “oh no a Kraken? then we will fight under Water”

But it doesnt has to be an underwater battle. Try to imagine a Giant Kraken Battle in wich the “prequest” is to stop the Kraken from reaching the “Beach”. If you managed to do some “heavy” damage to the Kraken it should be an underwater Fight to its End. But if not, it would be an Epic Battle at the Coast.

Tell me what you think about this?..

Krakens do indeed exist in the Unending Ocean (and the Jade Sea in Cantha). Though I think the large creature in the solidified Jade Sea section of the Fractals of the Mists is a kraken – krakens were in the Jade Sea in GW1, after all, though the GW2 is vastly different from the GW1 version.

But that tentacle is more likely a reference to the deep sea dragon rather than krakens, and there’s no relation between the two.

We’ll likely see more about the DSD given we’re investigating why the kraken are attacking as well as what they are.

His minions are also in the Ring of Fire and the Crystal Desert. The ring of fire is right beside the unending ocean.
