I’m just curious what would happen to a destroyer if it went through the Forgotten ritual? Would it just turn into a pile of stones and some lava? Seeing as the destroyers weren’t made from living beings they’d have no free will to restore to them,or am I mistaken on how the ritual works?

That’s actually a really interesting question. And it really depends on how the ritual works.

Does the ritual act as a mental reset button, restoring the subject to their pre-corrupted mindset? Or does it simply remove the magical sway the dragon holds over their minion’s will? If the former, there’s no telling what it would do to a destroyer- perhaps it wouldn’t work at all, or perhaps it would cause something completely unpredictable. If the latter, though, it wouldn’t matter that destroyers had never been alive. They would continue to operate, at whatever degree of sentience Primordus bestows upon them, but without Primordus’ drive to destroy. It’s almost impossible to say what tangible results that would produce- would they then become docile? Or would they still continue to rampage, our of instinct or habit? Would they be tameable? There’re so many possibilities, and if the devs get around to it they’ll be able to take their pick.

As Aaron said, there hasn’t been any instance that we know of where a the ritual was performed on a construct made by and Elder Dragon that didn’t have some kind of pre-corruption intelligence. But the ritual doesn’t seem to negate the draconic energies that animate the minion, see Twitchy the very decayed Risen chicken being fine after the ritual and not collapsing into a pile of decaying giblets, so reverting back into just stone and lava is unlikely.

Well, the Orrian chicken didn’t turn into an inanimate pile of bones, note— it remained an Orrian chicken. The control was severed, but it didn’t fall apart.

Maybe the same would happen with a Destroyer. Primodrus’ control may be severed, but the creature remains, without the dragon’s impulse driving it. Makes you wonder what they would be like “thinking” for themselves…

What would happen if you performed the ritual on a Sylvari, I wonder?

Yeah, it’s an interesting question.

The ritual does not affect the body, so it wouldn’t turn into a pile of rubble. All it does is grant the subject free will – in of itself, one would think it wouldn’t turn a dragon minion “good”. If Glint’s claim for becoming good holds any weight from Edge of Destiny, for her she had to both undergo the ritual and read the minds of those she killed. Without the latter, she may have remained a champion of Kralkatorrik, just not mentally enslaved.

But being made out of stone, destroyers appear to be completely mindless killing machines. Can something without thought have free will? Will it also gain thought? Maybe it’ll just become docile – a living statue on fire that has no drive.

@Perilisk: Well, Warden Illyira (or w/e her name is) was standing with chicken in hand. So yes, she was put under the ritual too.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
