Q:

So, I was roleplaying and this topic came up. I honestly don’t know the answer. I checked the wiki, but it didn’t seem to have one either. I’m inclined to think they wouldn’t, but I’d prefer an answer based on more than my gut feeling. Do siege devourers have any traits that make them desirable and worth using alongside or even instead of Iron Legion vehicles?

A:

Legged creatures can cross terrain that wheeled or tracked vehicles would find impassable, such as through extremely rough terrain or up hills or mountains. (Not to mention that devourers can swim. ) Drottot Lakittenail in Plains of Ascalon makes it clear that the Charr still use war beasts, so while Siege Devourers may have declined in popularity with the invention of steam tanks and other vehicles, it’s a safe bet that they still form part of the Charr war machine.

Well I’ve seen Ogres using regular Devourers as pets, and two big siege devourers in one event chain. They may not be Charr, but that’s something.

My thought on it is simple. In GW1 we see more of the Seige Devourers in the Charr Homelands (now called the Blood Legion Homelands), so it may be that this is the only place that the devourers grow this big. Perhaps they are using them up north to deal with more Flame Legion Threats or other types of threats.

I think its very likely that Charr still use Seige Devourers, particularly in the lands of the other Legions. Do remember we play in the heart of Iron Legion territory. The other Legion lands arent as likely to be as heavily Industrialised since tech isnt the focus of their Legion.

The Blood Legion in particular strikes me as a group who would use Seige Devourers. Particularly in rough landscapes, a Seige Devourer would have mobility advantages over tank and are highly capable of throwing explosives over long distances. They are like a mobile catapult.

Seige Devourers would also be less dependent on supply lines, refueling and maintanance.

Of course we have nothing solid and I am bias because I loved Seige Devourers in GW:EN.
