Does race affects dialogue in the expansion?
If you are a Sylvari, there is a significant difference. The Sylvari player character’s dialogue is different to a non-Sylvari in story instances and open world comments, and they will also be able to hear Mordremoth’s voice in their head periodically. Im not sure if hearing Mordremoth trying to turn you is a thing that only happens in story instances, or if it occurs in open world also.
There is no race-specific dialogue for other races that I have seen, however, there is a very small handful of characters who will remark on your Profession that I have found.
The Sylvari are the obvious one. With them it’s not only dialog but even events that change during the story missions (like characters leaving that would otherwise stay around). However there are slight differences for all races. For example in one mission my Norn said “by the spirits!”. While I haven’t played to that point with another race yet, it’s safe to say that other races will have a different exclamation at that particular point.
I’ve only played through fully on charr, and partially on sylvari. THere is the obvious “you hear Mordremoth’s voice, you get unique dialogue with Canach about being a sylvari, and the first instance differs a lot if you’re sylvari” cases.
But of all of Act 1, the first instance is the only thing that really changes. And I mean the entire thing changes – if you rescue Laranthir’s men, then some of the non-sylvari Pact forces leave; if you stay to defend as a sylvari then you save another sylvari you come across who hears Mordremoth’s call (and this is an achievement no less – FORCING you to be a sylvari and deny your fellow sylvari their dues). I’m a bit disappointed in that Prisoners of the Dragon (final Act 1 instance) doesn’t have anything unique to sylvari that I could tell.
Though one thing I noticed for Prisoners of the Dragon:
As a charr, you call Rytlock by his rank: Tribune. As a sylvari, you call him by his name: Rytlock.
Charr line: “Feelings, Tribune? From a soldier like you?” Sylvari line: “Feelings, Rytlock? From a soldier like you?”
Unless I misremember. This is a minor but interesting difference there.
Honestly, such things should be about since each line is recorded individually anyways. Having NPC lines be the same makes a bit of sense, so they can re-use the line, but minor alterations from the PC works wonders so long as it makes sense in comparison to the NPC lines.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
There are, I am told, significant dialogue changes for Sylvari in the final instances. I wont say any more for spoiler purposes and since I found this out from Guild chatter earlier this evening, so it wouldn’t be firsthand info.
As a Sylvari player, when my group was separated in two (I think it’s when you have to choose between defending the Hylek village or search for the prisoners), I think I heard Rytlock (who was in the other group) discreetly asking someone to keep me under surveillance as he walked away. Can’t remember exactly what he was saying, though, I think it was just one line.
I’ll put this in spoiler so read at your own risk :P. These are the things I remember off the top of my head.
There is one time as a Sylvari that you become sort of stunned and light-headed for a while, while searching for Pact members with Braham and he goes like ‘’Are you okay commander?’’ and you just dismiss it with ’’I’m fine’’.
In Bitter Harvest the same happens, but your character blacks out completely and a Mordrem Guard identifies you as an ally after you wake up, but you resist his commands and the fights continue. Then you get back to Marjory as you were separated during your blackout.
In the final instance Mordremoth tries to control you but Canach (was at least for me) does the Rift channel and you get cleansed. There you see Mordremoth as an ally and you can attack your real allies.
So yeah it’s pretty different as a Sylvari.

He says that line about Canach, though it’s a generic “your sylvari”. Says that for non-sylvari too.
