Q:
Dragon in the trailer?
A:
And it’s not from before Zhaitan woke up. Granted, it’s not exactly confirmed to be dead Zhaitan AFAIK, but since it’s from Arah map from early betas, we can assume so. The head looks very much like the original Zhaitan artwork, and it’s found in the map for Arah explorable if I recall correctly (that is, in early betas akitteninz said).
Or it could be just to corpse of some non-significant dragon in Arah. However, whatever it was, it’s not in the game now.
That’s Zhaitan’s body, before he was redesigned to what he is now. I kinda wish some of the stuff in the trailer that got changed had stayed that way, like LA…

What? How can that be, Zhaitan was sleeping below the sea near orr before he woke up, this map looks ascalonian?
Its not. Its an unused model that used to be part of Orr. I think you used to even be able to see the model on the datamined maps for Orr back in the early betas.
So not much interesting going on.
Its Kralkatorrik
I’ll answer in case that wasn’t a poor attempt at trolling.
It’s not Kralkatorrik. Kralkatorrik isn’t dead, and that dragon corpse bears no marks of any kind that are associated with Kralkatorrik, such as purple crystals or lighting.
Oh my fault sry. I thought its kralkatorrik
As Tuomir said, it is most likely to be the original corpse of Zhaitan.
- We were originally told Zhaitan’s corpse was to be found in Arah explorable. It got removed near the end of development.
- Original Arah explorable beta maps shows a dragon lying in the same shape with the same appearance as the one in the trailer.
- We know Zhaitan got a redesign shortly before release. The old version would have looked like Zhaitan’s original concept art, which is what that dragon in the trailer looks like.
The corpse likely got removed because Kekai came up with an all-more-epic-looking appearance for it which became the final version.
The sky is also fairly akin to Arah explorable’s sky (green), and the landscape matches more or less where the dragon corpse on the map was. We can still even get a PoI – Zhaitan’s Rest – during the Seer’s path where the corpse was on the beta map.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

technically kralk himself is golden, not purple :P
still hoping he ends up like that storm dragon concept art, even if it wasn’t official GW2 art.
Kralk’s eyes are golden. Kralk’s skin is teal/silverish as seen in GW1.

i’m having deja vu, i’ll pass on this discussion lol.
i was talking more about his powers when i said “golden rather than purple” though. if i had to guess, the brand works like a burn, and as it cools down it gets purplish. kinda like hot iron changing from white to yellow to orange to red and finally to grey/silver/whatever as it cools down.
Isn’t it a poor idea to show the outcome of your storyline in the trailer? It’s like showing an exploded deathstar on the cover of star wars to me.

it wasn’t the outcome though. well, sorta.

ArenaNet told us that we’d be facing Zhaitan as the main antagonist far over a year before the game’s release.
With the Living Story releases, they’ve been releasing guides on the day of release – sometimes house before the release itself.
ArenaNet’s not very keen on the “no spoilers” – heck, even in Prophecies they kind of revealed Khilbron was the lich by giving us the history of Orr and Khilbron’s actions the day of the Cataclysm in the manual.
’Sides, without context, that could have just been a dead dragon champion – or an Elder Dragon killed during the previous rise.

I was going to say, I never partook in betas until the BWE’s. In the BWE’s, Orr was not available, so it wasn’t until much later when I had already killed the “new” Zhaitan that I knew the image in that video was supposed to be him. It wasn’t a giveaway at all.
ArenaNet has stated that whatever that is/was, it was cancelled during production, and now means nothing.

-And lets not forget they showed the Great Destroyer at the end of the Eye of the North trailer. A shame they spoil the surprise so much.

they spoiled zhaitan on that weird live action trailer.
and now that they’re releasing the chinese version, they even freeze frame him.
