Dragon woes (minor spoilers)
Short answer: yes.
Long answer: most of the threads on this forum about the future of GW2 (less so the ones from the last couple months; concerns about the Living Story have superseded concerns about dragons.)
I heard that the Zhaitan fight was so poor due to being pressed for time (lol so much for “when it’s ready”), so future dragon fights should end up being far superior.
But with the route ArenaNet’s going, don’t expect another dragon! Ever! Cuz we got the “personal” nemesis aka Scarlet Briar to slap around for the next century – like any ol’ Saturday morning cartoon villain, she’ll just never die! 8D
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Hahaha yeah I suppose that’s looking likely.
It just feels like they’ve written themselves into a corner. When Factions came out we were called to Cantha to help with a plague which turned out to be Shiro, so we had to side with a political faction (which meant wiping their noses first) and then hunting him down. Then in Nightfall it turned out to be a a god toying with us all the whole time. It had connections and momentum and people with motivations and agendas.
I loved this about Guild Wars. I could get behind the characters and get involved with the story. Making the main antagonist some faceless unstoppable force of nature makes it very difficult to buy into the story.
Any further content seems likely to be living world content, which is hard to get excited about because it’s in such small chunks that it has no pace (and woe betide anyone who misses a chapter), or “Oh balls, another Dragon has popped up. Of you go and whack it then.” “Right ok” “And then all it’s brothers and sisters.”
Konig, haven’t the other Elder Dragons been awake for much longer than Zhaitan? I speak of Primordus, Kralk, and Jormag.
Triconis, most of what we do as the Commander of the Pact is leading the forces, because apparently we’re the only person in the entire world who can lead a squad to victory (except that part where we messed up). We’re like the equivalent of Diablo 3’s Nephalem: the only person who can do anything right, by themselves or with a group.
The other thing to remember is that while we did kill an Elder Dragon, he was severely weakened when we gouged out his Eyes and then ripped apart his Mouth (of Zhaitan).
It would be like if you fought a professional boxer who hadn’t had anything to drink in the last 24 hours AND hadn’t eaten food in over a week, and had no eyes. He wouldn’t have the energy to beat you to a pulp even if he could land a hit.
Primordus and Jormag have been awake significantly longer than Zhaitan- Primordus in particular has been up and kicking for nearly twice as long. Kralkatorrik, however, has been awake for less than a decade.

And in the next update of Living Story heroes of Tyria will have to stop Scarlet before she changes all denizens of Tyria into chocolate cookies!!
Except those are not chocolates….
Those… Are….
-PLOT TWIST-
…Raisins…

The way I see scarlet is like some minor bad guy, in the same league of pilaf in dragon ball.
If you compare her with the joker, you’ll be very dissapointed.
I don’t think there’s a problem with that. We don’t need all enemies to be serious or epic. Things feel epic when compared to other things.
The big mistake with Zhaitan is that he didn’t feel epic enough. And he still doesn’t. You’re just a pact recruit and you don’t have the strength in yourself to do something significant. I guess they’re building up epicness to the next dragon fight. Clearly Scarlet is a bigger threat than the aetherblades alone (I see them like the red ribbon army (dragonball)) and the aetherblades are a bigger threat than the molten alliance that was a bigger threat than the Karka.
So let the epicness build up little by little. And don’t worry.
I mostly agree with the OP’s post except that fighting another dragon seems to be unlikely. As far as i know there is no expansion being planned, instead we get the Living Story events which do not advance GW2’s original storyline and do not really change the world. Okay, the game mechanisms work in such a way that areas stay the same even after the fall of Zhaitan, but that speaks more FOR an expansion than against it. The world could stay like it is even with the fight against another Elder dragon. But we won’t get that.
So i would not worry about GW2 becoming a dragon slaying sim. I would worry about it becoming a Scarlet minion slaying sim instead, as Scarlet will most likely bother us for a long time from now on.
I would welcome an expansion (and would pay for it) which ends in a fight against another Elder dragon, and i think many players want the same.

Primordus and Jormag, yes (Kralkatorrik woke up five – now six – years prior to the game), but what does that have to do with my post?
