Dredge and books conundrum
Braille? :P /badumtsh
Ok but seriously speaking, Dredge have underdeveloped eyes and are not completely blind. They’re only near-blind.
After all, they do take pride in how pretty their teeth are
Tyrian equivalent of Braille? Otherwise, it depends on how you qualify the part in bold:
“The dredge are intelligent and roughly humanoid with hunched postures and, due to their race’s history beneath the surface, underdeveloped eyes, to the point of nearly being blind.”
I figure they have to be able to see at least somewhat, otherwise I don’t see how they can create the stuff they do by touch and feel alone.
As said, they are not blind. Nearly blind with poor eye sight, but they can see.
If they are nearly blind, but use eyesight why are they immune to blinding? Ok, you can argue that it’s a matter of mechanics, but their models have no marked eyes stricte, jsut closed eyelids.
But yeah, I guess “nearly blind, not blind completely” answers my question well enough, thanks!
Hard to blind somebody who doesn’t rely on their eyes most of the time?
Course, can say their eyes are just squinted/narrowed a LOT. Why would blind people need torches/lamps?
Dredge don’t lack eyes. It’s rather that they have very poor sight. They’re not outright poor, but think of it as having a heavy eyeglass perscription and going around without glasses.
On an aside, dredge writting is said to be blocky and akin to Old Dwarven writing.
@zwierz: They’re immune to blind because they don’t rely on eyesight but hearing. Hence one of the Frostgorge Sound meta bosses going “A deaf dredge can do better than that!”
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
The dredge also light all their caverns just so that they can read their stolen manuscripts.
Also, expanding what Konig said, that’s why a chunk of their tech is sonic based, and IIRC, one heart has them actually having one way/two way radios :P.
I think they are the experts in sonic tech in the world, compared to Asura (magic tech) and Charr (normal tech).
The Dredge… The Mr. Magoo race of Tyria.
I think they can probably amplify their eyesight through optics. They are like engineers with perma utility goggles on (which I don’t have to remember you give immunity to blind).
Considering their numbers and technology, probably the main thing stopping them from ruling Tyria is the fact that the surface is a hostile environment for them, but I don’t know much about the lore (I find dungeons and events not so challenging, so I avoid them), so I might be wrong.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Bats are probably a good analogy to make here – they also tend to have weak eyesight and ‘see’ by echolocation. Mind you, dredge don’t have the highly developed ears bats do, but there are blind humans who have apparently taught themselves to echolocate, so dredge can probably do so as well – and they’re probably very sensitive to vibrations in the ground.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
If they are nearly blind, but use eyesight why are they immune to blinding? !
They don’t need to be able to see you in order to hit you. Presumably they can hear well enough to point a gun in your direction even without seeing you.
