At the start of the game I noticed a lot of hate towards the dredge, but as I progressed through, they REALLY grew on me!

From their hilariously exaggerated voices to their parody of politics, ANET made them better with each update! In Flame and Frost they act like mad scientists with mechas!

I know the Dredge have gotten a lot of hate from Thieves who can’t blind them, but as a personality I think they’re really awesome!

I find them entertaining, and I love their steam-punk tech. I think sometimes the “moletariate” thing goes toooooooo far and they end up as a joke or a pun, but I think they’re fine. That said their dungeon is a torture, if I ever want more armor pieces from them I think I will just repeat path3 and ignore the other 2.

I don’t think they would make a good playable race, but as one of the filler sentient races they cover their role perfectly and are different than most others (like their particular inmunity to an specific condition, their annoying amount of KDs and their yellow guys that will turn red if their bosses are fighting you).

I would love to see more Dredge NPCs rather than enemies.

The only friendly ones to my knowledge is Mr. NoNoNo in Sorrow’s Embrace, and some of them in Forstgorge Sound.

I would like if some Dredge simply walked around in LA, maybe if one of them were a merchant.

I hate fighting against the dredge, especially solo. This right here is where a majority of my hatred for the race has come from. Playing through their ridiculous jumping puzzles to get to View Points only to be knocked down and killed halfway up constantly and other such annoyances. As a race, I think they are very well thought through and a great addition to the game. They just very much annoy me as enemies.

I liked them in GW1 and I like them here. I hope they get a better government in the future without having to renounce their defacto communism. But no matter what, I’m positive they’ll be an everlasting source of fun.

You don’t win friends with salad! Sorry I just got caught up in the rhythm.

I’m really conflicted towards them. I loved them in GW1; they were tragic, they were morally ambiguous.

In GW2, there are elements I really love— the Dredge rebellion, the mining suits, the communism. Their voice-acting in F&F has been brilliant as well.

But, at the same time, they’re also a huge missed opportunity. The Dredge rebellion notwithstanding, they’ve become far too one-dimensional.

They were such a tragic race. I think GW2 is forgetting their tragic history, turning them into one-dimensional villains. It doesn’t suit them. I really, really hope they develop the Dredge, develop their government & start presenting more rebel/ friendly NPCs.

I love the dredge they have the best story for a Minor race. I was kind hoping they would have a T-34/M-34 mining suit, MK-47 rifle, and let us not forget a Mokarev pistol.

Those who have nothing to hide have nothing to fear, For I am the Law and the Law is not mocked.

SE explorable mode fills this out somewhat.
There’s friendly dredge annoyed that they fought so hard to gain freedom only to return to servitude under other dredge; two of the paths there revolve around inciting the start of a rebellion. Whether or not this is revisited to any level later remains to be seen, but there is something there.

I used to hate dredge due to the blinding issues, but with the recent sword buff, I don’t mind them at all! They apply boons so much more than other types of mobs. Share the love!

I do like how the Dredge are filled with references to the Bolsheviks even going as far as to claim that the Dictatorship of the Proletatiat became little more than a dictatorship over the proletariat. I’d say the dredge had as much success as the Bolsheviks in achieving communism*, i.e. none. Class society does not communism make. I just wish there would also be references to the Revolutionary Insurrectionary Army o’ Ukraine (aka the anarchist Black Army)… hmm seems putting the word ‘of’ followed by ‘Ukraine’ results in being censored.

I for one would support the dredge overthrowing their new masters and all masters.

*for reference communism is defined thusly: a stateless, classless, moneyless, marketless society where all land and means of production are held in common and distribution based on the principle ‘from each according to their ability to each according to their needs’

f—-u—-k That is why it is censored, just 1 letter shy of a “kitten.” As for the dredge rebels, you can see quite a bit more of them in the southwest corner of Frostgorge Sound.

Yeah. It’s one of those things isn’t it? It’s like a town in Lincolnshire, England is censored in loads of places because of the letter combination involve. The town’s called Scun—-thorpe btw.

I’ll have to check out the dredge in Frostgorge, thanks for the heads up.

The Skritt also have great character

Yeah I agree there.

Hate is quite a strong word, but I admit I really really dislike fighting them in pve, mainly because of the annoying noises they make when they get hit.

I love the Dredge, and I hope they become a playable race in an expansion. I read somewhere that a lot of them migrated to Cantha, and was holding out hope for them there. However Cantha is dead (thanks NC Soft)

Cantha isn’t “dead”— they dropped the Canthan District of Divinity’s Reach, due in part to bad feedback from Asian markets regarding the mixing of different Asian styles in one place.

Cantha, itself, has not been dropped as an possibility for an expansion or future content— we’ve heard nothing to that effect.

Yeah, the dredge-related vistas are some of the ones I hate most in the game. The way the AI can knock you off edges but you can never do that to the AI is incredibly frustrating – I can understand why they made it that way, but some of the level designers seem to have a hard-on for abusing what is already an unfair situation for players and taking it to Nintendo Hard levels.

SE explorable mode fills this out somewhat.

Frostgorge Sound is a followup. One thing to note is that level seems to generally be an indication of when the zone is set chronologically – so you’re only going to see results from SE in zones with a higher level (which means Frostgorge, basically). I must admit I was disappointed to see no reference to the dredge rebellion in F&F, though. Or, for that matter, to the aftermath of CoF from the Flame Legion’s side.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

I see the F&F as the aftermath itself, as both are weakened and so tried to take advantage of each other through the deals made by the yet unknown mysterious figure behind the alliance.

Only fools and heroes charge in without a plan.

That’s what I thought, but so far, we’ve had no mention of that. The Flame Legion side of the Molten Alliance seem to think Gaheron is still alive despite CoF, while the dredge side just don’t make any mention of the rebellion in their ranks at all.

I like to think the Molten Dredge are just a small faction, and not representative of their entire race.

If ANET did not make some more friendly Dredge NPCs, I would be one very disappointed moletariat!

It makes sense to me that the Molten Dredge are the leaders of the “evil dredge” trying to keep a hold on their power. The same could be said about the Flame Legion. I do not remember ever hearing that “Gaheron is alive” from any Flame Legion members either. I only remember mentionings of him which could be taken either way since they do not want the Living Story to interfere too much with the chronology that the players are seeing unfold.
