Kormir was originally Human and ascended to godhood to take Abbadon’s place during Nightfall. According to the wiki, Kormir was a Paragon in GW1, which is a Guardian in GW2 (or rather, if a monk and paragon had a baby, that is a guardian). But, also according to the wiki, Paragons had armor with “angelic” motifs. So, Dwayna is described as most angelic. Dwayna is also considered nurturing and a healer.

Dwayna is the Goddess of Life and Air. She is the patron Goddess of Wind Prayers Dervishes, Air Elementalists, Healing Prayers Monks, and Leadership and Motivation Paragons…

Dwayna is usually depicted as young, tall and slender, rising above the ground on feathered wings.

In essence, Kormir was more than likely a follower of Dwayna before ascending. At which point Kormir sort of becomes the patron of paragons.

Both fit quite nicely, although Balthazar also fits. The Guardian is an evolution of Guild Wars 1’s Monk and Paragon professions. Both Monks and Paragons were related to both Balthazar and Dwayna (Kormir wasn’t a god back then). Kormir herself was a Paragon.

Personally, I would pick Dwayna. I have a fascination/obsession with wings and angels. Also, if you go Dwayna’s route there’s a back piece you can get to work in with a theme for your character.

but the more i read about kormir the more i like it…….

Kormir ha this Justicar Justice bringer kind of thing and he ONCE worshiped Dwayna also……..
he once was a mortal human so he is the god with the MOST knowledge of human nature and how things go in our world.

ALSO it gets allot of flack because he was useless and got Everything at the end thx to the players and the players ben forgotten.

aaaaaaaaaaand thats BS

Go for Kormir then, she needs some love. Dwayna already has half of Winter’s day and is the head of the human pantheon, I think she get’s enough recognition.

I’d pick Dwayna, I always thought of Kormir as more of an engineer god now, with being the god of knowledge and truth and all. But yeah it really doesn’t matter, don’t stress too much about it.

the way i see it is followers of kormir are all about justice (basically like a peacemaker(i see this as i more merciless type of person like justice above all else))
and followers are all bout healing the sick and being generally kind towards fellow man.
so its sotra like does he want to be a kind and caring or strict justice

Ahhh, but which one fits better?

If it helps, one of the big distinctions I think there are between them is that Dwayna’s tenets are largely focused outwards, on helping others. Kormir, on the other hand, seems more to be directed inwards, towards self-improvement. There are overlaps, of course – Kormir would regard developing compassion and charity to be part of improving oneself – but it might help in identifying which is more appropriate for your character:

Is your character more focused on self-improvement, and helping others is part of that? Or is your guardian more concerned with simply helping others?

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

my comment should of had the question if justice dictated that a child be killed would you spare that child or kill it

if u kill the child kormir is for you!
if you spare the child and try to teach them dwayna is for you!

…Fair enough. For the sake of argument, though, I’d like to refine my question specifically to a human child, from a human perspective, unless that wasn’t at all what saventis meant. Most kids in Tyria aren’t raised to be zealous child soldiers, after all.

Ehh, I wouldn’t like to restrict it specifically to human children. Because does that mean that children of non-human races get treated more harshly (“Sylvari are born essentially with all the knowledge of adults. Ergo, they must be tried as adults, even though the individual may only have been born 3 months ago.”) or leniently? (“But all Charr cubs learn how to fight and kill in the fahrar! Accidents happen!”)

well fine ill word it this way.
a child is caught stealing bread and the punishment is imprisonment.
however the child is a poor orphan with a young brother and sister (street children)
do you carry out the task? Justice above all else. the child must learn after all.
or do you pay for the food he stole and take them to an orphanage. Dwayna has mercy
no i understand both have grey areas but the question isnt meant to be 100% solid its just meant to give you an idea of the attributes associated with worshipers of that particular god

Kormir would never expect you to kill a child. That hypothetical is ridiculous. And she is not about “justice above all else” which would make her a zealot or extremist, but order, spirit and truth which is fairly important in discerning her character. It would imply that not only would she be able to immediately discern the truth of the situation, but she would likely see the child’s spirit and know that they only stole to feed their family, but it would also imply that to be a guardian devoted to Kormir, you would be one who is willing to sacrifice themselves for others, to stand in front of others and act as a wall of protection, to be wise and able to discern the truth in situations and to be observant of the people around you, as opposed to a follower of Dwayna who would probably be more of a healer and support type guardian (and I can’t be bothered going into the characteristics but you get the picture)

Hm… I think in the bread case, a distinction would be drawn between justice and the law. Is it just, after all, to expect a child to starve to death? The distinction in that case (disclaimer:personal opinion) would be that a follower of Dwayna might wish for the merchant to forgive the theft as an act of charity, while a follower of Kormir would be more inclined to pay for the value of the bread herself.

@Zax I think laws would almost have to distinguish between race. After all, a human child is much more helpless than a charr cub, and very different things are expected from a norn child than asura progeny. Sylvari run such a wide gamut on matters of relative innocence and maturity, with nothing to tell them apart visually, that the sort of development related generalizations and milestones applied to other races cannot be meaningful. As to harshness versus leniency… well, we already know that non-humans don’t have the same legal rights in Kryta as Krytans (“outsiders are given a hearing before the local Seraph authority”), so instead of being something codified I expect it would come down to the individual judgement calls (and prejudices) of the particular Seraph.

-_- i had said the question had grey areas
it is just in my opinion i guess that kormi would do “the Just thing” the right thing by the laws standards
and dwayna would do “the Right thing” the right thing by humanitarian standards (feeding the poor healing the sick ect)

It might actually help to find a few different examples.

Consider: You’ve just come across a burning building, and the perpetrator is fleeing the scene. Nobody is currently in immediate danger, but the building (somebody’s home) can potentially be saved if you stick around, but there likely isn’t time to both save the building and catch the perpetrator. Which is your priority?

Now, say the perpetrator is caught, and it turns out that they accidentally lit the fire while trying to rob the building (and they’re poor enough that they’re not doing so purely out of juvenile hooliganism). Are you more concerned about prosecuting them for arson, or finding them a vocation so they don’t have to return to stealing once they’ve paid their debt?

Now, let’s be straight: Dwayna followers aren’t going to disapprove (strongly, anyway) the justice option, and Kormir followers appreciate the compassion option. However, it’s a matter of where the priority lies.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
