Dyes used by npcs
I can at least confirm they do use the same dyes available to us, being that I’ve been able to replicate Adamant Guard, Ash Legion, Vigil Crusaders, Seraph, and other NPCs without too much trouble. Might cost a little bit to get right, though. Something I used that helped me quite a bit is this color chart, and there’s also this dye catalog.
Order of Whispers is the next on my list I’d like to mimic, but that’s on hold because I need every copper for my asura’s T3 armor. Anyway, hope the above links can help a little bit!
I’m almost completely certain that the black on the Order of Whispers Armor is abyss. I’ve been trying to replicate that color with other, cheaper dark dyes but nothing really seems to work on leather. :|
This may be a silly question but did you try using the dye remover?
Using the dye remover on Order of Whispers armor only turns the dye names into ‘Dye Remover’.
I posted this thread under Lore because I felt that some of the dye names are themed and reflect the values of certain factions. For example Redemption dye is simply bright gold/yellow but its called ‘redemption’. Same with Wrath Dye which is just a dark shade of red. They could have been called crayon colors like the other dyes but maybe the developers named the dyes as such because certain organizations wore the colors in the game. While I do not know if this is actually the case, or if there are factions that use these dyes for their themes, simply having the same look is insufficient. I want to have the exact same dyes for the sake of the dye names as well.

This is an older thread, but it popped up when I tried to find the right colours. Since I didn’t find an answer, I set out to find out for myself.
3 gold later; For the Priory I found these to be extremely satisfactory. The blue is the most common shade found amongst the clothes worn by the Durmand Priory.
Denim/Country Blue – Blue
Ash – Light Grey
Pitch/Graphite – Dark Grey
I’ll have a whack at the other 2 orders later.

for a more subtle take on the Priori, Blue Tint works
what exactly are the vigil colours though? seem kinda brown-ish, but there are too many variations

Granite, Fog and Oil Slick seems to work for Vigil Heavy Armor on my Charr.
For Orders of Whispers armor, use ruby and midnight ice or similarly dark dye. I have also replicated it with Blood in place of the Ruby if the ruby happens to be too dark for your particular armor.
~Surrender fiend and you will get an easy death
~I could promise you the same…but it would be a lie…
Granite, Fog and Oil Slick seems to work for Vigil Heavy Armor on my Charr.
What dye did you mean by “Granite?”
Sorry to bump this old thread, but I didn’t want to create a new one to discuss what is already here.
I’ve got a couple of Whispers toons that I have used different dyes to achieve the whispers look. It depends on the type of armor. They don’t all color the same. Same for the other two orders armor. I’ll try to remember to look up what I used.
Even saying that, many times different member NPC’s of each order often have slightly different but similar colors on their armor. I have noticed this particularly with Priory and Vigil.
Resurrecting this thread since it is needed once more. Does anyone have the colour schemes of the various groups in Tyria? Not just the Orders, but as many of the smaller ones as possible. Specific dyes will be more than welcome of course.

I tought Dye Remover – witch should remade the dyes onto base style – is already applied for the special armor sets. If not, it should be.
Isn’t most of the armors has a lore pre-dye set?
“A man chooses; a slave obeys.” | “Want HardMode? Play Ranger!”
not that I have seen, it usually just takes whatever colours your previous armour piece had, unless it has an additional colour slot (in which case, it probably does what you say). is there any way to apply Dye Remover?

There’s a button up top called dye remover that you can use to remove the colors. I think it is usually a sort of brown color that it changes into.
Hey so I think I found a good combination for the Durmand Priory Light Armor. So far its the only special armor I have, but I think I’ve got the colors down.
Top – Graphite
Bottom Left – Winter Sky
Bottom Right – Fog
These three colors have given me what I believe to be the closest results.
This is what I use on my heroes:
Vigil (Heavy): Iron / Burnished Steel (The leather trim I dyed “Night Air”; closest to US Army “Infantry Blue” I could find)
Vigil (Medium): Ebony / Burnished Steel (The leather trim I dyed “Rememberance”; closest to US Army “Combat Engineer Scarlet”
Order of Whispers (Medium): Abyss / Red / Gold (Hidden leg daggers: Burnished Steel)
Durmand Priory: Cobalt / Gunmetal (The stripe on the shoulder I dyed “Celestial”)
Dose anyone know the palette for a Seraph Soldier?
I’m trying Iron / Gold but it just doesn’t look right…

I’m almost certain with the Vigil, they’re doing what I’m doing with my heroes… If you don’t already know, each branch of the US Army has it’s own color; Infantry=blue, Armor=Yellow, Artillery=Red, Combat Engineers=Scarlet & White, Military Police=Green & Yellow, Chemical Corps=Gold & Blue, etc. In GW2 my Engineer wears Antique Olive leather w/ Scarlet, My Ranger wears Antique Olive w/ Rawhide (US Army Ranger berets are Tan). My warrior wears Iron / Infantry Blue.
