Elder Dragons corruptive influence
Someone said the brand does infect more people, like a miasma or something i’d suppose. Jormag’s corruption is instantaneous at times, although it does slowly infect also. Primordus (as far as we know) only creates
zhaitan corrupts the dead.
kralk and jormag corrupt the living, kralk faster than jormag. jormag’s transition may be instantaneous, but there’s an evolutionary system of sorts in it. the icebrood start out still being flesh beings, only slowly turning into their final, icy form, whereas branded corruption has no ‘stages’.
Mystic, if that’s true, then kralkatorrik sounds just as dangerous, and perhaps slightly more, than Zhaitan.
In order to defeat the dragon, you’d have to walk on his territory and risk getting yourself corrupted. While against Zhaitan it was simple: don’t die and you won’t get corrupted. With Krakatorrik however, the war sounds much more dangerous, considering there’s more of a risk of being corrupted than of dying. At the very least if you die, you wont become branded (i assume).
Bruno, i think you’re right about the branded, but i don’t know enough to say. we’ll have to see how the war progresses.
What I say is second hand, since I don’t spend a lot of time in the Ascalon areas. But apparently the brand is creeping and growing, which would imply that it also corrupts living beings as well as the natural landscape. I think I made it seem like it’s fast, but it’s probably at a moderate pace (the charr sentinels there seem to be fine, but their forts are decomposing and whatnot)

I understood it was at a more moderate pace, but the thought of being corrupted must be terrifying for the charr forces there (well, as scared as a charr would get). that information could easily change the outcome of the war.
Zhaitan did corrupt living members of the Pact at several points. It seems to kill you and turn you into undead so it can be very rapid.
The others seem to be different in their own way. Jormag’s corruption often can seem quite subtle. Of all the Dragons, he actually has non minion followers. Kralkatorik on the other hand seems quite brute force in his corruption. Creatures get twisted into the branded very quickly.
Dragon corruption seems to be linked to energy they release. The brand has an energy feild play across it that the Charr researchers call the Brandstorm. It has a direct effect on the minds of the Branded, drawing them and making them more active and agressive. Curiously it also suggested that branded can sometimes regrow from the crystals on the Brand.
Who is worse? Who knows. I suspect that the Pact would be developing ways to resist dragon corruption at this point as they learn more about the energy that causes this corruption. In the end I dont think any of the dragons would be that much easier to beat, just different. Kralkatorik wont turn out dead against us like Zhaitan but his corruption eats away at structures making our fortifications less reliable.
^ i think they regrow from the crystals, because as far as i know, no living creature has become branded since kralk created the brand itself and branded everything in the way.
if the brand really corrupted by itself, no one would stay inside it and build forts, the effort would be in keeping what’s in the brand, in the brand. what we see are forts inside the brand, with people living in these forts, patrolling the area, and so on.
I think it’s worth remembering with Kralkatorrik that he/it has been relatively un-aggressive so far. The Dragonbrand was formed with his awakening, but then he sort of moved into the desert (although who knows what that looks like now – one suspects that the name ‘Crystal Desert’ is starting to look prophetic!). It’s creepy that the Brand might just quietly expand itself, but it seems like a more passive form of spread, like Kral’s not really trying – yet.
Jormag corrupts the living, and the fact that he has the Sons of Svanir as voluntary icebrood has got to help! I would imagine the corrupted ice that Jormag and his minion create could probably infect other living things, so if all of the Shiverpeaks were corrupted, everything living there would be too.
Primordus can create minions from inanimate matter (stone chiefly from the look of it). Plus Zhaitan, that leaves Bubbles, who I always imagine having a similar kind of minion to icebrood, except with extra tentacles and that kind of mutant look instead of the ice. But to the best of my knowledge we have no idea of that sea dragon yet.
