Q:

Please forgive me if this has been discussed previously, but I’ve only recently rejoined the Guild Wars 2 forums.

In the Great Lodge at Hoelbrak, one of Jormag’s teeth sits right in the middle of the entire hall. We know that the Elder Dragons have a very focused point on ‘corruption’ and ‘consumption’. What I’m curious about, is it possible that the tooth is slowly corrupting the people of Hoelbrak? Is it likely? I’d like to hear what other people have to say.

Personally, I think that Jormag is biding his time with the tooth, waiting to use it as a Trojan Horse against the Norn. It’s an Elder Dragon’s tooth, surely it still can bare some of the properties of the dragon it once belonged to.

A:

Dragon corruption is presented as an active action done by the Elder Dragons, not a passive innate ability. Similarly, dragons themselves innately release magic (they have to be awake + alive to be absorbing magic innately).

If anything, the tooth should be making Hoelbrak a magical hotspot.

The only example of pieces of an Elder Dragon/dragon minion corrupting is the Sanguinary Blade. Everything else, like the spear made of one of Kralkatorrik’s spines, do not corrupt.

And that spear should be an especially notable thing in this discussion – did nothing to Rytlock when he used it in Kralkatorrik’s presence.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

You know, I have wondered how safe it actually is to have a piece of an elder dragon in a high population area like that. Mayhaps its somehow inert?

Possibly. I was thinking if it’s inert, then it’d be by Jormag’s design. If it’s not by design, then I suppose it’d have something to do with how Aesgir managed to knock the tooth out.

If its in-fact inert, I’m thinking more the later than the former. Given the size of the thing and how mere physical force can’t scratch it, Aesgir musta done something super natural to even break it off.

That leads me to another question though, what is it about Jormag that makes even a fragment of it more indestructible then either Zhaitan or Mordy? I get that we learned how to starve Zhaitan and in Mordy had recently awakened, but was that enough to explain the dependency in how seemingly comparatively easy to defeat they are as opposed to Jormag’s fricken tooth?

(Edit: Was writing this while Konig was posting his response, didn’t see his until after finishing mine. Leaving this up all the same.)
