Hey guys,

one thing I noticed with the Attack on Lion’s Arch release is that the remaining Zaishen NPCs and large parts of the Mist Warriors have completely diappeared from the game engine.

I wonder what happened to the Zaishen Order and whether we will see them reappear at some point. Any thoughts?

The Zaishen were always in a weird place in GW2 Lore. Pre-release, it was mentioned that they’d petitioned Balthazar to open portals to the Mists, which would be the mechanism which we’d head to WvW through. This was replaced with asura gates, leaving them in a kind of limbo.

As their staging ground is completely destroyed, I’d assume they simply haven’t had a location to rally around yet. As far as I could tell they’re not present at any of the refugee camps, but it’s likely actual survivor numbers don’t match exactly what we see in game. That being said, when Lion’s Arch does being to be rebuilt, we’ll either see the staging grounds recreated and the Zaishen pop up again, or they will simply disappear.

The LA Mist warriors are gone, but each other city still has criers talking about the Mist War.

I’d be immensely happy if they replaced the Heart of the Mists with a Zaishen outpost at some point in the future.

I’m sure they could force some kind of ‘mist instability’ reasoning and tie it to Fractals of the Mists somehow. They’ve shoe-horned things like this before. This is a shoe horn I’d actually like to see this time however.

It’s like everything Canthan related is being removed completely. If they got rid of Captain Hao Luen at this point I wouldn’t be surprised. Then along with Hao Luen the last reference to the Xunlai would be gone as well (apart from that one chest in the Hall of Monuments).

There is also a Xunlai Ingot (ascended material) that we are unable to craft/find at this point, FYI.

I got the impression the Xunlai were still around as a financial institution. There was dialog in LA where two asura discussed borrowing from the Xunlai for their project if I remember right. Seems unlikely they are going to just completely remove all reference of the Canthan groups.

Its worth noting that the Zaishen are a different beast in GW2 from what info we do have on them. Their less religiously focused and inclusive of fighting ideologies and spirit of other races such as the Norn and the Charr.

Back to the Zaishen – I’d just love to see them come back in some way. They did help with the Karka Invasion after all, and we know that they have close connections to the Mist war. Some more lore on that would be awesome, especially with the upcoming PvP changes.
