Father of Grenth?
The only lore we have on Grenth’s father is that he was a human sculptor in Orr.
It is believed to be Malchor because of how infatuated he is with Dwayna, but beyond that, no one knows.

That’s what the lore so far has lead me to believe, then I knew it couldn’t be possible because Grenth was one of the statues that Malchor sculpted.
The original story that details Malchor’s sculpting of the gods statues also states he sculpted Kormir’s statue, but we know that is wrong as she wasn’t alive then.
It is possible that Malchor knew Dwayna before, and didn’t carve the statues until Grenth took power.
It’s hinted to be Malchor—- but that creates several plot holes. Doesn’t really match up with his comments on Grenth’s statue in Divinity’s Reach.
Malhor fearing Grenth for being able to see his own end in Grenth’s eye really isn’t a plothole.
There is nothing preventing someone from fearing his own son.
But Grenth’s father fell within Orr, where as Malchor threw himself off a cliff and fell somewhere between Orr and the Tarnished Coast.
The cliff that Malchor threw himself off of is right behind the Cathedral of Zephyrs, Dwayna’s Cathedral in Orr.
The Map it is on is named Malchor’s Leap, which is the 2nd of the three Orr maps.

Lore says that Grenth is remains of old extinct race, grenth overthrew previous god of death and was bringing races to Tyria and is as old as dwayna, melandru, balthazar and others. Malchor was just spectacular sculptor that had extraordinary ability to look gods themselves without their aura blinding him. to me atleast thats the thing here.

Sorry you’ve misunderstood the lore.
Grenth was the youngest of the gods (until Kormir came along), he was born on Tyria – his mother Dwayna and his father a human sculptor.
Malchor also had no special ability to withstand the cost of looking on the gods, he did eventually go blind and even insane.

Lore does not say that at all, in fact, Lore says Grenth only became a god after the gods had arrived on Tyria.

Sorry for my misunderstanding. i remember though reading he was of fallen race. i admit, i was wrong, thank you for correcting
One big problem in the whole grenth is new story, Malchor, the only human noted to having any romantic relationship to any of the gods, only saw each god for a short amount of time when Dwayna asked for the statues. Also he only had time after he made the statues to devote himself to Dwayna creating a massive time paradox (how could he see his son before actually getting Dwayna pregnant or whatever mortals to give gods offspring in GW) and even making it seem that Dhuum never stepped on Tyria despite his in depth knowledge of the land unless it was in the short amount of time when 5 of the gods fought Abaddon, what again wouldnt make sense since one of the magic types that rose to massive power when Abaddon gave humans magic was necromancy (in pre searing prophecies, there is a whole tomb full of necros that talk about it and the powers/risks of necromancy if you aint devout to Grenth).
For short just take the whole Grenth is Dwayna+anything that existed on tyrias love child as a mistake of the world builders just as they said that Malchor saw Kormir and not Abbadon (whats again by time line impossible since she didnt even exist back then), maybe, just maybe it could be that Dwayna courted a human from Earth (since humans are aliens to Tyria after all) and then he just got born on Tyria.
Dhuum was on Tyria, you can even find the exact spot in Orr where Grenth took him down, and gained his powers.
Furthermore, the gods had been on Tyria over 786 years before exodus, Grenth only showed himself for the first time 48 years before exodus. This gives Dhuum possibly hundreds of years to be on Tyria thus explaining his knowledge, before being taken out by Grenth.

I pretty much agree with the above poster (where the heck did the quote/reply buttons go?) – given the overall activity in Orr, I would say there’s enough time for Dwayna to have given birth to Grenth via Malchor, and then for Grenth to have ascended to Divinity while getting a statue. It all depends on the specific dates.
There’s no saying that Malchor even knew he was a father, if this was the case, nor are we sure how divine conception works as a whole. And even if it’s not true, it still adds a touching (if tragic) aspect to why Dwayna sought Malchor out.
On a historical scroll found in Orr:
“Standing before his immortal mother, Grenth claimed his place among the gods. Where his father had fallen, Grenth would rise.”
This seems to imply that Dhuum is Grenth’s father. One of Grenth’s followers is the source that Grenth’s father was a human sculptor. Malchor scupting a statue of Grenth before his time alone with Dwayna makes it impossible for him to be Grenth’s father (unless Grenth has some un-aforementioned power to go back in time). Its possible that there’s a mix-up in the official lore that needs to be sorted out.
PS The source saying that Malchor sculpted Kormir was unofficial, I looked it up a while back. It looks like a fan just made a mistake and people took it for official lore.

These are human legends we are talking about, notorious for their inaccuracies and changes. The story we know of Malchor sculpting the original statues could just as well be romanticized, inaccurate and downright false for parts. They may contain “truth”, but they are quite not as credible as older written sources.
Grenth may have been born before the sculpting took place, and may have overtaken Dhuum too. As said before, we know not of how the divine conception happened. Who knows, maybe Grenth was a statue given life by Dwayna.
Also, we can’t dismiss the possibility of Orrians replacing the statues of Dhuum with those of Grenth if grenth took over after the sculpting.
Oh, and while we are at that, if Malchor was loved by Dwayna, the god of healing among other things, and the father of Grenth, the god overseeing resurrections and such, wouldn’t it make more sense for Malchor to remain dead if Dhuum, death inevitable, who denied resurrection, was the god of death at the time?
Malchor scupting a statue of Grenth before his time alone with Dwayna makes it impossible for him to be Grenth’s father (unless Grenth has some un-aforementioned power to go back in time).
Except that when Malchor made Dwayna’s statue, it was not the first time he met Dwayna – it’s because he was already in love with her that he saved her for last, so that he may spend as much time perfecting her statue specifically.
We don’t know when they first met, considering that Dwayna was the one who recommended Malchor to sculpt the statues.
Also, the only source we have which says that Malchor made a statue of Grenth is the very source you stated to be fan-made (though not outright fan-made, it was very much had wrong information – Kormir for one). So it is possible that Malchor sculpted Dhuum’s statue, which was subsequently destroyed when he was supplanted. And that the inscription of Malchor talking about Grenth found on the statue in Divinity’s Reach is either falsified or, more likely, about Grenth as he was a half-god, and representing mortality and sorrow.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
“He overtook Dhuum where his father had fallen within Orr with the help of the seven reapers.”
If Malchor was Grenths father, Malchor would be dead by the time Grenth ascended into the pantheon of gods. This would make Malchor sculpting his son as a god unlikely imo. OR that all inscriptions and statues of Grenth are reused of old Dhuum statues and inscriptions. Or finally that ingame scholars are full of hot air and knows absolutely nothing…
Not necessarily. We only get one inscription from Malchor, which says nothing more than “Grenth I fear the most, for in gazing upon him I saw my own end. But Grenth also embodies inevitability, the idea that all things have a time… and that time must inevitably pass.” – there’s no mention of Grenth being a god (and it’d give a fun twist if Grenth was his son). Furthermore Grenth could have had a sculptor made while he was a half-god quite easily, as well as having a different sculptor other than Malchor.
Considering the statues don’t look like Dhuum, who we see in-game, I doubt the statues are re-used.

Thats true, and until we get an official explanation these are just theories. But i do like the idea that some scholars ingame might be wrong, if not only for the purpose of sparking discussions such as these. I for one am not entirely ready to take everything we learn ingame as fact, as is true in real life.
Hmmm, interesting thought about Dhuum being Grenths father, it would also explain why Dwayna and her followers dont like Grenth and his cough possible g/ra~pe case cough
It would also explain the pale green mist (well dhuums we know from in game, grenths from the different artworks) and why he has spiky, but still angelish green wings on the official art and murals of him (e.g. Isle of the Dead one), maybe even state that the skull is actually a mast just like Dhuums.

In the game (SPOILERS RED ALERT AWOOOGA) one of the Orr personal story quests I went through with my engineer involved going to the Temple of Grenth in the Cursed Shore as part of the quest line to find the Source of Orr had a Priestess of Grenth come along with us. As the quest progressed she explained that Malchor is, in fact, Grenth’s father and that it is the ‘biggest secret’ kept among the various Priests of Grenth.

“Standing before his immortal mother, Grenth claimed his place among the gods. Where his father had fallen, Grenth would rise.”
I find it amusing that no one brought up the possibility that Grenth might have visited Dwayna above her temple, at the cliff from where Malchor had thrown himself off, after he had defeated Dhuum. “Claiming his place among the gods” is closer to “taking up the job and responsibility of being one of the Six” in meaning than to “ascending to godhood.” (Lyssa was in a similar situation, actually. Lyss & Ilya were goddesses before they were called in and forced to join the other five.)
A fantasy of sci-fi cyborg implants grafted into the desiccated flesh of Guild Wars’ corpse.
I don’t remember that priestess to ever mention Malchor.

Again, false. And this was brought up in the thread.
She says that Grenth’s father was a mortal sculptor – no name was ever given.

Dwayna could have tied up malchor and blindfolded him, that would explain some thing’s….
