As you may know, there is a trio-set of minis up for sale on the BL market. 500 gems gets you a beagle-looking puppy, a deerling, and an arctic Fox kit-

Wait, what? A fox?!

I haven’t seen foxes anywhere in this game up to date, not in the wild, not in people’s homes and not even really mentioned in any sort of side lore (you know, I am Greg Daniels of the Black Fox Squadron or something) so to me, this meant that maybe the cute little orange things didn’t exist in this universe.

But now there’s a mini-pet of one.

What does this mean?

Foxes will appear more in the future now that we have something of a model to go on?

Half-Life 3 confirmed?!

+ They already did the cute minipet theme, so there’s less to work with now.

GW1 had some fox references (skills: Fox Fangs, Golden Fox Strike, Fox’s Promice, Way of the Fox; an item named Fox’s Greed), so I’d guess foxes exist somewhere in Tyria?

Actually, that’s another reason I made my topic but I forgot to post it:

I never played GW1 so if anyone who did could tell me if they saw or heard of foxes or even fox references, well, you’d be doing me a solid. It looks like SingerOfTheFall has already done that though.

Also, Thief Spear has an attack called “Nine Tailed Strike”… not EXPLICITLY related, but… it’s something?

Nine Tailed Strike is a reference to the “Cat o’ nine tails”, which is a type of whip used by the British Navy as punishment.

It says people should have voted for Evon Gnashblade. Then we’d have an epic Fractal, plus other discounted Gem Store goodies.

Nine Tailed Strike is a reference to the “Cat o’ nine tails”, which is a type of whip used by the British Navy as punishment.

Unlikely, since Nine Tail Strike first appeared as an assassin skill in Factions. Given the Asianesque setting of Factions, other fox-related skills possessed by assassins in GW1, and that in the system of keywords that assassin skill names had in GW1 fox references were associated with a skill having the unblockable quality (which the original Nine Tail Strike shared) it’s much more likely to be a reference to the Asian legend of nine-tailed foxes.

I don’t think there were any foxes that appeared directly in GW1, but it’s probably reasonable to presume that they exit in Cantha at least, we just didn’t see any.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

The skill icon for Nine Tail Strike should depict a picture of a fox with nine tails. Well, if not the fox head surely the fox bushy tails.

Edit: I went to the trouble of searching the wiki and the skill icon depicted there. It is not the same one I remember it. Oh, well but at least there is the Golden Fox Strike skill.

As far as I know Tyria doesn’t even know horses, even though there are centaurs! Doesn’t make sense at all!

There is still the small matter of the missing monkeys and moles.

Edit: Oh, I just remembered the monkeys. They are the red fur simians on Tarnished Coast. So, the missing monkeys are represented after all. But, those red fur simians can do magic rather well and can do the toughest fight for players.

There’s a multitude of mentions of horses in the lore and since GW1 (Necrid Horsemen). We just don’t have any models of them, but they exist even in modern Tyria (as seen in Edge of Destiny).

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

I’m sure I read stated by a dev one upon a time that there are a lot more creatures populating the world of Tyria than the ones you see in game – it simply isn’t logical to have all of them appear unless they’re going to be enemies (the ambient animals are usually using the same models as actual enemies for example, it’s logical to assume that they represent only a tiny fraction of the creatures that populate Tyria.

Yeah, if they had every creature that would populate an area there, then you would have dozens of creatures a step, lol.

Especially since the game is scaled down in size of actual size – Ebonhawke to Ascalon City is more or less a straight line (which isn’t so in-game) and takes 2 nights 3 days to travel the path – while rushing on foot.

In GW1, horses were rather common – in an undead state. The current reliance on dolyaks suggests that they went extinct at some point.

My first guesses are that they fell casualty to plague, were massacred by an enemy such as the charr, or were all eaten in a time of famine.

Alternately, a curse may have fused all the horses and riders into what became known as centaurs.

I should be writing.

Or horses were only native to Orr, and fairly rare at that. That’s what the evidence seems to suggest to me- the only depictions we have of horses are as military mounts, so it may be that they were bred for that purpose alone. It seems, though, that the idea of using mounts never gained much traction among the humans of Tyria, and for beasts of burden oxen and dolyaks would be far superior to horses.

There are wild horses through one of the gate exits Logan, Rytlock and Caithe looked through on escaping from the dwarven village under Ascalon in Edge of Destiny.

It seems they’re not present in appreciable numbers in modern Tyria, but they certainly haven’t been rendered extinct by the Cataclysm.
