GW1 Characters in GW2 (Cynn etc)-returnal
A lot of henchmen have tombs in Granite Citadel.
Livia is probably somewhere and she’s going to come up one day and Ogden is still “alive”.
All GW1 characters are dead.
ArenaNet wanted nothing to do with GW1, so they killed them all off. Even the immortal gods.
/endsarcasm
We only see a few descendants and gravestones. Resurrection magic at some point ceased to exist in-lore, and has been mostly forgotten about. People still died of old age even with resurrection magic, btw, that stuff only resurrected folks who died of swords and whatnot (so it seemed). And waypoints don’t resurrect, PCs in GW2 never die – hence why the states are called “downed” and “defeated” not “dead”. You’re merely knocked unconscious every time.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
I know you can find Anton’s spirit at the fighting arena in Gendarran Fields, I found him in the first week of the game’s release and kinda flipped out when it happened. Even though I NEVER used him as a hero in Gw1.

Tri-Lead of Ascension [WAR] of Borlis Pass
There are at least two GW1 characters that we know are still alive.
SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT
You meet Ogden Stonehealer, now in living stone form in the personal story, he’s at the Priory’s headquarters. Technically, any dwarf you met during GW1 that was alive when the rite of the great dwarf was performed could still be alive in GW2 today, but Ogden is the only known dwarf in the surface, the others are presumably in the depths of tyria fighting Primordius, and we might meet them later on an expansion/living story focused on fighting him.

In the novel Seas of Sorrow you learn that Livia was still alive after the new Lion’s Arch was founded, in GW1 when you finish the main campaign of Eye of the North you see her grabbing the Scepter of Orr, in the novel Seas of Sorrow she’s alive and the personal bodyguard of the human king, the scepter suposedly gave her (among other things) inmortality. She might still be alive in the current game timeline.

And technically, the Pale Tree was also alive during GW1, you can also see it/her as a small tree in the same cinematic as Ogden says “New creatures would stir.”
And well, while the gods left, they’re probably still alive, so that would also mean Kormir is still around.
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

I don’t think it ever ceased to exist, merely that the spells to do so were forgotton/lost or simply it became harder to do, eventually getting near impossible to do without lots of rituals and all.
Probably around the same time the UW ‘sealed off’ if I had to guess. Same thing that blocked humanity from getting into the underworld made it harder for spirits to come back out and get into their bodies again?
Of course, res magic doesn’t do a thing concerning old age. You’d res them from old age cause of death… so they could live a tiny bit longer and die of old age again <_<
Hi. Are there any old GW1 characters in GW2 ? Yes…I know they have descendants like Gween-Logan. Still, there might be ghosts somewhere or undead.
Even more, some might found some methods to stay alive. ( yeah…GW takes place in a world of magic where everything is possible)
If after they die, characters respawn at resurection shrines/waypoints then how could they really die ? There might be a trick somewhere. Time travel could also be possible/paralel universes.
So…could we expect for some to return ?
I think pretty much all of the named ghosts are GW1 characters, with the exception of Bria in Iron Marches (there may be more, but that’s the most significant).
There are also a bunch of ghosts around Hidden Lake in Brisban Wildlands, most if not all of whom are minor GW1 NPCs.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
I think Oola is alive too, even if she’s not by herself or has shown up.

I doubt it since we do see her ghost inside her old lab, and according to her log she used necromancy to fuse her essence with her golem right before dying (aparently because of that) who we also fight and destroy during an event in metrica.

We fight another number than the one she mentions and it’s a holo of her that we see there.

Most indestructible resource in all of Tyria, unconscious PCs. Time to build a wall around the branding with bodies then?

The resurrection shrines were Grenth’s doing. Since Nightfall set the narrative that the Gods were having less interest in the world of Tyria, I figured these Shrines would become useless. Hence, we have the downed-states in GW2 and the player character is never “canon-logically” dead.
I think Oola is alive too, even if she’s not by herself or has shown up.
She’s dead. But you can see a computer of her in Metrica Providence.
