I want to be emotionally invested in this story…like I was in GW1. I can’t get into this story and it drives me nuts. I find myself and my guild mates quitting for months at a time and coming back to see the changes…only to find the short living stories…not that interesting. I liked watching Gwen grow up, standing behind Jora while she dealt with family struggles, and going after my mentor Kormir and seeing her turn into a blind goddess by a crazy demon …those were bad kitten storylines…. now I feel like I just run around and commit genocide on centaur and fight zombies and the occasional dragon…There is nothing that drives me. Divinity’s Edge? Just a bunch of whiny kittenes for the beginning of the game then once trahearne comes he is the storyline hero…and I am his side kick telling him what to do…the game is gorgeous and I love the fast paced fighting, it’s half of what keeps me coming back. And I really enjoy the cooking profession…so please Arena…Anet…please write a kitten good story. There’s so much that can be done.

I agree that the ‘group of hero’s known as dev..i mean destiny’s edge’ (yeah they are so whiny that i don’t even want to remember them) is so lackluster that I’m not even sure why they are even mentioned. They are there to guide the main character, but just end up kittening at one another about past issues while an army of undead are coming to eat everyone’s face off. They seriously couldn’t set that stuff aside for a while? No respect for anyone that selfish. Trahearne is a nooblord that’s only good for his knowledge of orr and the undead…not someone I actually want to follow into combat COUGH LOGAN THACKERAY COUGH. What’s done is done though. Can’t just go back and change all of that. Soooo I’m totally on the side of the OP, Give us a new storyline constructed like the three tier storyline we have while leveling. A new set of characters to be emotionally attached to that aren’t cliche or have flaws that make you want to smother them in their sleep.

No more dragons ZZZZzzzzzzZZZZZZZ…no more undead (I’ve been killing undead for years and need something a little more disturbing/scary to destroy for hours/days/months and gasp YEARS1!!11????//!) No more taking a back seat in main story lines.

I want a villain or group that I can really hate. Something that has offended the people of Tyria and that I can relate to or at least get behind to kill. Yeah saving everyone and the world is cool, but what about some justice…or better yet, a story driven by retribution. Queen Jennah NEEDS TO DIE. Logan goes ape kitten…goes a little crazy and wants to avenge her death. Rytlock helps him not completely lose it and channel that rage into keeping the pact between humans and charr from crumbling. Meanwhile the Seraph has a new hotshot prodigy rising through the ranks looking to make a name for himself with any opportunity. The Norn need to take care of business and launch an all out offensive on the sons of svanir. I could go on but the point is that there are so many ways to drive the story here that I can make stuff up on the fly that actually sounds fun or engaging.

I want Trahearne to reveal his master plan of leading our forces to kill Zhaitan just so he could absorb his powers and become the Dragon King. Then he will reignite an invasion on the world with Scarlet as his bride and allow two things to happen:

1. A worthy Plot Twist

2. A chance to kill Trahearne

Take some time to watch this. I know it’s rather long, but it’s worth it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSicD-CA4lM

The living story is anets way of introducing new character and new stories, it’s much more enjoyable if you’re able to follow. The living story is still something they’re working on, it’s not perfect. The players have been dissappointed by the living story (like the first impression of Scarlet) but have also been nagging om this forum about content that’s not nagworthy. You’ll find that we’re all tempted to nag about the smallest things.
But overall I’m still a fan of the living story and anet is trying to fulfill the players wishes. I find the new characters very promising and engaging and even though the living story still seems young, I’m hooked.

An other unpopular opinion of mine: I liked Trahearne and I liked being his commander. I think Logan is a boring character. Shining armor, long hair, handsome face, uneneding heroism, unquestionable love for his queen… He’s the prince charming of guildwars. But I haven’t read the books yet so who knows…

The novel started off well with Logan being an easygoing scout taking care of Ebonhawke and caring little for Divinity’s Reach. I even liked that his older brother was a seraph and felt like Logan was wasting his potential as well as tarnishing the family name. I can even buy Logan falling for Jennah on first sight but it’s really at that point where the story starts stumbling hard. They only see each other face-to-face twice during the whole novel but act like they’re newlyweds. So much of the story relies on the strength of their relationship that it all falls apart.

It would have been a lot more believable if Logan kept sneaking into the palace to see her throughout the story and they actually had written and detailed romantic buildup. He would have to be more flirtations and carefree for this to work. Jennah, on the other hand, would easily see through his one-liners but fall for him anyway because he’s brash enough to do what every other guy would be too scared to. It also would have helped to show the ministry pressuring Jennah about getting more security and her appointing Logan as her champion because he has few ties to the city so she knows they haven’t gotten to him. The last major change would be having the death of Logan’s brother (ugh, I can’t remember his name) be partially Logan’s fault. That way, he would have a reason to be straight-laced and obsessed about protecting the queen as she would be the only important person he has left.

On base I like the living story idea, because it was bloody insane that by the end of GW1 I saved the world 4 times, was a hero countless times over, yet these random commoners still hated my guts on sight, even though I was the only reason they were still alive. What I hate about GW2 is that I need to find 4 other people for so much of the content. I hate lfg spam, and so I miss so much stuff. Hopefully the new tool will make finding parties easier.

I think the idea of the Living Story is good. I loved the original Flame and Frost content, it kind of explained a bit of what came of the Flame Legion and Dredge post game content. I think the Living Story as expanding upon what was already in the game is a very good idea, but I’m not necessarily sold that the living story being all wrapped up under 1 name is as good. In my opinion, living story should be about continued fights from Icebrood, a resurgence in Branded, random invasions from destroyers, cleaning up after inquest, bandits, pirates, nightmare court, flame legion, dredge commanders, centaurs, ascalonian ghosts, ogres, etc…

There are enough conflicts in this world already to keep the world feeling alive until the point in which the next dragon is ready to be assaulted. We did not necessarily need to bring up new enemies (aetherblades), new monsters (twisted clockworks, Karka), or a head honcho (Scarlet) to make things right. In fact, I agree with Konig that it makes things more confusing for players who have not been involved with the earlier stuff, whereas having the living story be about the challenges of the world continuing to resurface or change slightly is much more interesting in my mind.

I also want to take a sidenote and mention that I love this current content, mainly because I thoroughly enjoy the SAB, but also because it is optional in my book. The Living Story stuff is not optional for me because my characters have to be involved and complete the story, which leaves me very little time to complete other stuff such as map completion, or startign new characters. This SAB was nice because if my friends wanted I could jump in, but overall it wasn’t a major story plot and was thus skippable otherwise. I would personally like to see more content like that in the game. Just small challenges or such which do not necessarily progress a story but are just fun new things in the world to enjoy.

And that is the end of my rant, lol.

Logan is boring because he isn’t an anti-villain, yet. He understands “sacrifice for a greater good” more than anyone else on Destiny’s Edge. And to him the “greater good” was saving the queen, which is more important than killing Kral.

Past:
“Sacrifice Snaff, so the queen can be saved.”

Future:
“Sacrifice 10 civilians, so thousands can be saved.”

All of this – except I’ve not quit for months at a time yet… but I really feel the strain and wear of not getting a seriously good story. Things started to look interesting with the Dead End Bar film noir-scene and that story but it fizzled into more Scarlet drivel.

The momentous stories in Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, heck even War in Kryta and Winds of Change, were all class, and instead Anet are squandering their efforts continuously dragging us through this LS soap that fails to grant me any kind of emotional investment – well, apart from grief.

I even thought the Marjory story-line was a bit weak. I loved the idea of it, but we barely got to “play detective.” I would have preferred to question all the suspects than use a magical asuran device to decide who was guilty or innocent. It didn’t have as much “air of mystery” as it could have.

I stopped short of my personal story upon meeting Trahearne after the battle at Claw Island.

Although this is a good game and still one of the best mmos, it lacks the emotional drive and satisfying end rewards. Once you hit 80, it’s become a game to get gears and gold to get more gears and gold….

That said, 1 time only purchase means we could and should move on after being tired of this game.

In terms of bang for your buck I agree this game is pretty good. I mean I think the only other game that I’ve spent more time on for the amount of money paid was GW1. Still, the game designers continue to make income based on this living story stuff and keeping our attention when it comes to the story is the best way for them to continue on as a company. So it is still best for them to consider the opinions of the players. And it is also important for us to note that us not seeing changes based on our responses it is because the response to our voice won’t really be seen until a few stories down the road based on the way in which they have their story teams staggered.
