I was reading about Melandru’s lore and something just clicked.
The quaggan have a deity called Melaggan which is their interpretation of Melandru, even thought they do not believe so.

The say that the undersea dragon killed her (or the krait, I don’t remember acurately).
The thing is that the undersea dragon is yet to be seen and we’ve only heard distant stories of him.

What if the human gods have been fighting the undersea dragon for ages in the depths of the ocean and Melandru was somewhat struck down?

The glory of my ancestors shall be restored.

While it’s possible that the gods are busy fighting a dragon (or all the dragons in the Mists) (and that’s also a decent theory as to what the hell they’re doing), Melandru at least isn’t dead, as humans can still channel her for the Avatar of Melandru racial elite.

She’s not dead, but she might had taken a blow.
And beaten in some way.

Firstly, it is the belief of human scholars that Mellaggan=Melandru. The quaggan disagree greatly, nor is it proven fact.

One pastkeeper says Mellaggan was killed by the krait. Only pastkeeper we meet, as far as I know – pastkeepers are the priests of Mellaggan, more or less.

I find it extremely unlikely the Six Gods are still on Tyria – people would know if they were. Just as they know they’re not in the Mists.

It seems more likely to me that Mellaggan is a quaggan deity, and the statue of Melandru that we recognise has just been associated with Mellagan – it seems quite clear that the statue in the lake in Gendarran Fields is an old human one, and not of quaggan workmanship. Quaggan have been driven out of their homes into mainland Tyria, so they would have left their own statues and cult objects behind. If they found this sunken statue, they might see it as Mellaggan and use it as such.

Much like the Spirits of the Wild that died holding back Jormag so that the norn could retreat, it makes sense that the quaggan would mythologize their people being driven out from their own bounteous homeland by the krait by saying that Mellaggan was slain by them.

It was confirmed that Mellaggan and Melandru are the same, so Quaggan could possibly just be saying ’she’s dead’ because they aren’t receiving any signs from Melandru, just like humans are doubtful of the prescence of the gods

As far as I know, the only comment on Mellaggan and Melandru being the same was a slip up by Colin. Unless you can provide a source, I don’t think we have any actual confirmation they’re the same.
