After a little talk with the sons of Svanir in Hoelbrak I got a reminder that they followed not jormag particullary, but rather the spirit of the dragon, meaning all dragons, including Mordremoth.

If it became common knowledge that the sylvari are dragonminions, wouldn’t it be logical for the Svanir to start worshipping the Sylvari? Maybe we get to see yet another allience, between the Sons of Svanir and the Mordrem Court.

I don’t think the Sons are organized enough to make an alliance… and more to the point, whatever the newer Sons may think, the senior ones are Jormag’s thralls. The way they talk about dragon, it sounds less like they revere a spirit that transcends Jormag and more like they think Jormag transcends other dragons.

The only consistent organization I’ve seen the Sons of Svanir in are rows.

Easiest for me to bury them that way.

Sons of Svanir are not only Norn, they are corrupted Norn, one can’t be any farther from be an army / organized alliance than that, lol

Also Sylvari are just dragonminions as you said, so Sons worshiping them would be just like Sons worshiping Destroyers, it just does not make sense.

Not all sons are corrupted, sure there are those that receive the “gift” of their spirit, but most of them willingly chose to serve the dragon.

And I don’t say that they might not as well worshipp the destroyers, after all they do so with the icebrood. The only thing stopping them in my eyes is that the sonst never stepped outside of the shiverpeak borders, and no other dragonminionrace made it there(well except for sylvari as we now know).

Why would the Sons start worshipping Sylvari? They don’t worship other dragon minions, only the dragon itself. They even occasionally fight Icebrood instead of working together, though I’d say the aggression comes from the latter.

Anyway even if they recognize Mordremoth as a deity, which I’m not convinced they do, as they only seem to work for Jormag, Maguuma is far away and unlike the Pact the do not have airships. So I doubt they could do much regardless of their allegiance.

Eh, not really OP.

They worship Jormag, and call him Dragon, considering him to be the Spirit of Dragon.

Norn do not revere all bears so much as just Bear, though they find some relevance in all bears as they’re tied to Bear.

Which does call into question how the Sons of Svanir view non-icebrood dragons and the other Elder Dragons, but the one they worship is Jormag plain and simple. It should also be noted that the Sons of Svanir faith differs greatly from the standard norn – it’s far closer to monotheism than the respect-of-nature that norn typically hold (though rather than monotheism it’s probably closest to a pagan god that is greater than all other “lesser” deities – a polytheistic faith that worships the strongest out of many).

And I don’t say that they might not as well worshipp the destroyers, after all they do so with the icebrood. The only thing stopping them in my eyes is that the sonst never stepped outside of the shiverpeak borders, and no other dragonminionrace made it there(well except for sylvari as we now know).

This isn’t really true – the sons don’t worship icebrood. They do see them as sacred (like a norn would find a special bear would), but they don’t worship them.

In fact, they outright kill various icebrood. Female norn get turned into icebrood? It’s an affront to Dragon – kill. And there are Sons in Frostgorge (the camp where the newer meta from Episode 3 happens) which mention hunting icebrood to learn from them.

So while the norn worship Jormag (aka Dragon) as not only a Spirit of the Wild, but the strongest Spirit of the Wild, they revere (not worship) standard icebrood in the same way that norn would see the animals which are tied to the Spirits. To be hunted and honored. But it’s rather skewed due to misogyny.

hmm interesting points, I didn’t actually take some of those into consideration, especially the one about female icebrood getting killed right away is news to me, where did you get that piece of lore from?

It was in an interview. A rather underwhelming response, the whole of the lore community agreed, since we already knew that Jormag corrupted females (from A SPirit of Legend blog post)

I feel like the Sons of Svanir and the Mordrem Court would have to travel an awfully great distance to make an alliance, with LA and other portals being guarded I don’t see those as an option. How would the alliance really form?
