Hi all,

Returning to GW2 after some time out, i’ve start’ed to look at GW2 from a different perspective, going full lore story PvE content instead of PvP, the game mode that made me quit.

So, i want to make a character, or continue an old one, that fits in the story and i can have that sense of being part of it. My initial choices are:
- Revenant / Herald
- Mesmer / Chronomancer
- Necromancer / Reaper
- Guardian / DragonHunter
- Ranger / Druid

Revenant/ Herald: I thought i would see my Ritualist bringing back to life, but i was, somehow disappointed, but very excellent class for the party.

Mesmer / Chrono: I love mental magic chars.

Necro / Reaper: Dark Knight with death magic, yes i also like.

Guardian / DH: Well, since i’ve allways liked white magic, the Guardian was the main choice, but…DH is strange…i dont know what it is…

Ranger / Druid: I think Druid was like my first class of RPG playing, D2 LOD, loved the theme, although this kind of Druid is not like that, the name and what it means is important to me.

In GW1, i could choose my party in order to be the only class, but with GW2, is a different story. Every class is in the party and my sense of being part and unique to the lore falls completely. So, i need your help in order to choose a class/race for a full lore experience in GW2.

Thanks

Guardian/Dragonhunter is probably your best bet from a lore perspective. GW2 is sadly very short on profession-specific lore in game. The reason I mention guardian is because in the personal story you play the role of the hero, the protector, the champion, learning under one of your race’s previous exemplars, and ultimately you’re going after the dragons. The HoT personal story even has another guardian making the mental transition to defend others by taking down the dragons (kinda almost not really a spoiler; doesn’t ruin anything). It also has the advantage of being able to solo pretty well and offer a lot to groups as well.

As mentioned above, profession lore is extremely limited in this game. I would also say that going for guardian/dragonhunter is your best bet since there was some backstory on them from a long deleted interview. iirc it was about a correlation between paladins and guardians. Also, bearshaman made a good point, where the player character is supposed to be the hero/guardian of Kryta in a way, making Guardian/DH fit well again as well.

I’ve found it helps to approach it from a different direction. Not what profession would most likely get involved in the story events, but what sort of person would. Then design that sort of person and they just happen to be X, Y, or Z profession.

So they’re an adventurous type, good in a fight, and their skill set used to get things done is whatever profession they are.

Thanks for the info.

Although i will not main my DH, because DH is strange to me…, i will main a Druid, since Druid is all about healing and support the party.

Thank you all for the info and help
