I have been playing Season 2 of the living story and just met Ogden in the Hidden Arcana. My human character recognized him but I have never seen him before this point. I finished the personal story already so I have no idea what I am missing.

You’re missing having played GW1 and Anet having competent writers.

I did play GW1. I am familiar with him from that. My GW2 character was not alive then so I have no clue how they are familiar with each other.

Well, there are many reasons. First, he’s a well-known character in history and was a hero, of course people would know him and about what happened 250 years ago, right? You can find real life comparisons here. But even more, he’s still alive and the last “known” dwarf on the surface, that in itself can explain why your character heard of him. After all, history is a part of education.

Then, he’s in the Priory, he wrote a few books you can find there.

The story assumes you did everything in the timeline up to where you are, even the dungeons. Well, Ogden is the one opening the Arah explorable mode, so you already met him in the story, even though you may have not done the story yourself (like people calling you commander when you can perfectly jump into season 2, hoT, etc without having done the personal story, and thus never founding the pact).

There are many things your character knows that are simply common knowledge in the world of Tyria, but it may not always be common knowledge to the players (Importants characters, places, events, or even mordremoth’s name (hint: you’re a comander, you just got intel off-screen)), but Ogden is not one of those.

No no. It was not an issue of being familiar with each other. It is that the player character literally says “It’s (insert name) we met in” and then he interrupts you like you literally have met before. But despite the confusion you did answer my question when you mention him being in the Arrah explorable dungeon.

When I did the ls2, at time i did not pay much attention to the “lore”, it was practically in the rush mode. It was not hard to see that he was someone important to the Priory order and someone well known. u can think about him as some sort of Michael Jackson lolzzzz.

As of Season 2, the game/story/writers takes into belief that you have “done all the story so far”.

This includes dungeons, and in this case Arah explorable where we can see Ogden Stonehealer directly. This is likely what the interruption was going to refer to – “…we met in Arah/Orr during the campaign against Zhaitan”.

Ogden is also a very famous individual, known to many like how we ourselves know about Neil DeGrasse Tyson, and is also met by every norn PC in the personal story.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
