I must have missed something, but.. I can not for the life of me understand why Knut Whitebear didn’t want to send Any help to the people of Craigstead..
Can Someone point out what I missed??
His excuse is pretty much that it would spread the Wolfborn too thinly and would leave Hoelbrak open for an attack as well. I can’t blame him; it was a tough call, I think. : /
The Wolfborn aren’t an army like the Seraph or the Charr legions, they are mostly just the peace keepers of Hoelbrak, and as such don’t have high numbers. So, sending help to Craigstead would indeed have been spreading them too thin.
Gotcha.. Still Seems like he could have come up with some way to be More helpful than he was… .Oh well..
It’s because the Norn have no real army. The Wolfborn are the police/army, and they already have to deal with the Sons of Svanir and defending Hoelbrak.
If I recall correctly, he behaved similarly in the book about Destiny’s Edge when Eir, Snaff and Zojja requested aid against the dragon champion – and actually blamed their proactive aggression for subsequent attacks on the Norn. This has obviously reinforced his isolationist attitude and fits perfectly with his refusal to help at Cragstead.
The norn are too individualistic to really give large help to outside groups. Knut moreso than others. He cares first and foremost about the safety of Hoelbrak, not the safety of norn. As Blaeys talks about, he acts similarly in the Edge of Destiny novel. And since, as BunnytheSwordsman said, sending help would have left Hoelbrak vulnerable… it wasn’t really an option for him.
Edit: A guildie, Thalador, just gave me an interesting notion as I was writing this. I’ll let him say it though.

An idea I had while recalling his hysteric whining when Eir, Zojja, and Snaff returned after riling up the Dragonspawn and his outrageous apathy when dealing with Braham:
What if he’s afraid of the prophecy foretelling his gruesome death (take a Priory character to the Raven Lodge in Hoelbrak and talk the asura scholar at the entrance for more info)?
And each time some lethal threat arises in the neighborhood, he fears that if he would go out to meet it head on, the prophecy would come to pass…
Would make him shameful coward in that case…
Edit: Thanks, Konig!
