Are there spots in GW2 that you guys who played GW1 find really neat to see changed?

I played EQ1 and EQ2 and seeing the world different (but the same in ways) was really wild.

I run around in GW2 and wonder about that. The little lore I know, when in the Charr area, seems like that is a major change.

Charr Area used to be the home of Ascalonians.. Guild Wars One only had playable humans, so a lot of focus was put on the multiple human cultures that in some ways paralleled real human races/ethnicity/culture.

Ascalon was pretty much Europe. If you play a Char character you will learn a bit about it’s history.

Sort of like building a sandcastle

Oh hell yeah. Much of playable Tyria in the game is the same area as Prophecies and GW:EN from the first game. Ascalon in particular has massive amounts of references. Infact the geography is pretty close in those areas to the first game if you lay the two game maps ontop of each other. Its nostalgic and sometimes a bit melencoly.

It isnt only locations. References or ghosts from old NPCs. Alot of the named ghosts are NPCs from the first game. One is even a henchman. In the Brisbane wildlands you have ghosts of White Mantle and Shining Blade still locked reenacting a battle that the players were part of in GW1.

You have the ruins of Rin where priory guys are excavating to learn about the events that played out in a mission in GW1 including the bonus part. The queens palace from GW1 is also an excavation sight in Lion’s Arch in GW2 and the old lions arch is still under the water in the bay. Infact there are ruins of old locations and hubs everywhere.

Theres a sight in the metrica provence where there are asura studing an old asuran site which was the sight in GW:EN of the G.O.L.E.M. project by the asura to create fast deployable Golems to use agianst the Destroyers. Getting the project running was needed to recruit the asura against the Great Destroyer.

Hell, technically you could even visit the Pale Tree when it was still a sprout in GW1.

The Devs when out of their way with references to GW1 in GW2. Its pretty cool.

Ah neat. I assumed that there was more then just humans to play in gw1.

but races like asuras and charr were there?

wish I played. I listen to the stories and stuff and enjoy the npc chatter, just most of it goes over my head

Humans were the only playable race, yes. But all the races (except sylvari) were present in some manner. Charr were the main antagonists of the first third of Prophecies, norn and asura showed up in GWEN. And hey, it’s only like $20, pick it up for HoM stuff.

If you want to read about it I believe that there is a topic already on this forum about people finding locations from GW1 inside of GW2, check it out

I know what you mean but GW1 player’s already experienced that even before GW2

See at the beginning of the game “Ascalon” was a beautiful place, the wall kept the Charr out and everything was green and luscious, then as part of the storyline “the searing” occurs and Ascalon was changed into a ravaged land (even worse than what it looks like now!) the thing is that yo didn’t need to advance the story if you didn’t want to, there is a whole title around people that reach max level while never triggering the searing.

Cancer is also a Zodiac sign.

Cancer already said what I was going to say – it was a little heart-breaking the first time I ran around GW2 Ascalon, seeing it look so much like before the Searing, but only long after all the humans who lived there are dead. The land’s finally recovering. Those autumn-coloured trees everywhere? Totally pre-Searing.

Finding the ruins of the old city of Lion’s Arch in the harbour of GW2’s Lion’s Arch was pretty cool – the city was a hub in GW1 as well, and I ran around there a lot, and hung out for festivals, so the landmarks are recognisable.

One of my coolest moments in Eye of the North (the GW1 campaign that introduced norn and asura and started the links to GW2) was stumbling across the seedling which would one day become the Pale Tree. I’d already decided to play a sylvari first and I had a little lore-squee!

The Hall of Monuments was amazing to see. It was a beautiful place in GW1, but when you go visit it now in GW2 it’s in complete ruins
