I wish we got to play this...
Ghosts of Ascalon would have been the best fit for a side quest in the game. It had your typical heroic fantasy quest and unlike Sea of Sorrows, a credible and interesting hero (Cobiah was sooo bland!!). It was a shame the Ruins of Ascalon in game didn’t live up to the epic and dangerous feel in the book.
I agree the Destiny’s Edge chars were better in the book than how they appeared in the game. A great deal of their importance of who they were and their relationships was lost in the game. I think not using them more in the game hurt them a lot – it was certainly not necessary to create this new band when we had ready made heroes.
Sea of Sorrows was largely a forgettable experience for me it was so poor. The rising of Zhaitan and the battle on the ships against the undead were quite exciting, especially compared to the. battles on the ships we were presented with.
The rest of the book I found quite tedious. Finding the LA locations mentioned in the book was a great touch for an achievement though.
I doubt Dougal Keane will ever feature in the game beyond his appearance as an NPC standing in LA, although it would be nice to have him with us at some point.

There is a possibility considering that Gullik occasionally visits Killeen’s grave ingame.
Dougal (and Ember) have actually already been recast in the game- I believe they were founding members of the Guild Initiative. That ties them into the plotline that so far has only included claiming your guild’s hall. If ANet ever decides to move forward on that route, either by expanding on the crystal we’ve got sitting in the middle or by adding new halls with new quests to claim them, I could see room for Dougal and Ember to come back in to things.
