Inquest Membership: Is it for life?

Certain elements of the roleplay community have inferred that membership in The Inquest is a mafia style for life arrangement, and that you can never effectively leave. The same has been said of the Order of Whispers, but googling either comes up with no solid results.

So, it seems something that people have just made up or assumed.

Can anybody (or preferably a dev) confirm if the Inquest have any kind of exit policy for people wanting to try a new career path?

Many thanks.

This video claims they can’t leave too.

That bit about the Whispers seems dodgy to me, but the Inquest’s, ah, retirement policy is sourced from one of the pre-launch lore blogs : “An asura never graduates from the Inquest, as they do from the other colleges of the asura. Once you join the megakrewe, you’re a member for life… even if the other Inquest members are forced to make sure that life is a necessarily short one.

In addition to what Aaron quoted, I recall an interview stating that the Inquest may chose to “watch only” individuals who have incriminating evidence against the Inquest – partially in fear that the individual may get that evidence out in a “in case I die, publicize this” kind of plan.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
