I was exploring the Infestation up in Iron marches and noticed these odd ruins. They don’t appear of human design (or at least not Ascalonian). Any one know/have theories on what these might be the remains of so far north?

Looks like your standard ruin models – like used in the Zraith’s Beacon (aka Obsidian Sanctum) or Windy Tunnels or all across Sparkfly Fen. They tend to be used for either Krytan or Deldrimor ruins, but they seem to be your generic “very old stone ruins” design.

That area was off the map in GW1, being north of inbetween Dragon’s Gullet (modern southern Fireheart Rise/northeastern Diessa Plateau) and Ruins of Surmia mission (which is mostly dragonbrand area north of Blazeridge Steppes – yup, the one city Kralkatorrik branded was Drascir) and I don’t think there’s anything Ascalonian which was placed in that general area.

The only only thing that comes to mind would be possibly the Tombs of Drascir, though I’d suspect those to be closer to Drascir than the Infestation.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Thanks for the reply, I had hoped it was more than just generic =/

Though perhaps with Frost and Flame shaking up the charr and norn areas we may find some new insight…

Most of the generic ruins are probobally Seer ruins. A lot of them have the xenomorphic like dart shooting gargoyles that don’t really seem “humanish” in design.

Ascalonian ruins in GW1 had a lot of gargoyle motifs, actually.

Well yeah, I’m not saying humans couldn’t have designed Xeno statues that look like pumpkinhead, but they are a bit out of place. Given game mechanics, their presence in many “Common ruin” maps is likely out budget, as well as being a game symbol for “Dart launcher”(so players universally know to travel past them with cautions).

Given that Seer ruins have been said to have been so eroded that no one actually cares to identify them, they’re the perfect lore insert to cover up pesky game mechanics (Like in WoW where they would relate a monster sharing the Hydra Model as being once a Hydra, despite concept art showing that they merely tacked the design on an existing model to save money).

Seers also look like Greys fused with the animated dress from Legend(1985), so creepy alien faces just seem to mesh with them.

You seem to misremember what was said about seer ruins. It’s not that no one cares to identify them, it’s that no one can. They don’t realize what they’ve found – and seer ruins were found in both GW1 and GW2 (and I think more than just the bloodstones were meant).

Now, I think those we saw in GW1 were in the Far Shiverpeaks – Raven’s Point’s first level has statues which look just like the seers, nearby structures being two designs – one sharing the Ascalonian structures, and others being ice/crystalline. But I haven’t seen any such ruins in GW2.

It’s just an old rootcellar. Pay no attention to the bones of the giants with double rows of teeth.
