The Prophecies manual was the “official” story- the survivors, now the leaders, propagated it to cover the fact that Saul was abducted against his will. As for his return… I find it highly doubtful. It would require his lifespan to have been magically extended, which A.) makes practically no sense, given we have no reason to believe the mursaat thought him at all valuable beyond the role they had just forced him to vacate, and B.) is practically out of his reach- consider that we’ve only ever heard of two humans, in the course of the entire series (3 if you want to argue for Doric) managing such, and have no reason to believe the power is at the mursaat’s disposal either.

Saul’s return isn’t technically impossible, and as always it depends first and foremost on whether ANet wants to go that route, but it’d take the stars aligning to actually happen.

I don’t think you’ve given any concrete facts Aaron. From what you’ve just said, it still sounds like Saul could very well be alive.

There aren’t any concrete facts. He has as much a chance as anyone held hostage by a malicious power to see his 270th birthday, which is to say, perishingly little.

North of Lion Arch and North of Gendarranfield in Harathi HinterLand Southwest corner of said map is a reputed burial chamber of Saul D’Alessio. If you believe the point of interest and small mission.

Ya, the White Mantle kinda had to stage his funeral and build the whole tomb to keep their followers in the dark to what really happened. It’s kinda hard to promote a religion to people and have them accept their suppose “new gods” if they actually knew their “Unseen Ones” dragged away their champion because he outlived his usefulness.

i think there may have been stuff intended for him in the gw beyond stuff but when that project was cancelled any of those left over ideas were left unfinished. i think if thats the case then perhaps he had descendants and the rest of that story could be told through them in gw2

The simplest answer for why they’d take Saul instead of killing them is to maintain their aura of divine infallibility.

After all, Saul was the founder of the White Mantle and the first disciple and teacher of the religion of the Unseen. It would hardly do for them to kill him as being ‘worthy’ after making him their chosen. Take him away, leave his actual fate ambiguous, and the others are more likely to persuade themselves that Saul was actually being taken to be rewarded… where if they’d killed Saul then and there, even Dorian and the others might have decided that actually their loyalty was more to Saul than to his killers.

That said, it’s possible that the mursaat put Saul into some sort of stasis rather than killing him, against the possibility that he might become useful later.

Spoiler Alert! Saul was taken to be transformed into a Mursaat. Yes that’s right.
Ha! I don’t have any actual proof but it’s what sounds like you all were pointing to. Would make sense too, specrtal agony and all.

Chance to being mursaat in kind of ascending / tranforming would be nice idea of how mursaat born. Ofc mursaat could born in more “known” way, but opportunity to make mursaat in other way would be a nice thing.

Mursaat predate the human race by a few thousand years. That kind of debunks the age old theory of them being ascended humans.

Not to mention that we have minor but clear differences between the two – e.g., number and size of toes.

Teaching another a kind of magic is vastly different than transforming their body into a new race – let alone the entire race predating what they supposedly originally were.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

What if the Mursaat body is not originally what they looked liked.

We still do not know much of Mursaat culture and life styles to really judge how they live. For all we know they may have obtained their current bodies due to having their powerful magic.

As for Saul being taken from what it appeared he was taken due to him realising that the Mursaat were not the so called Gods he believed them to be.

If Saul was allowed to stay he would have turned the White Mantle against the Mursaat by revealing the truth about what they had done.

However, for encountering the Mursaat again in GW2 and Saul as well we will just have to wait. We never did find that great Mursaat city with buildings towering into the heavens in the Maguuma Jungle mentioned by Saul and tell this day no one has found it in GW lore.

If my suspecions are correct then this Golden City with great building towering into the heavens just may be this Mursaat City Saul found in the Maguuma Jungle.

I’d just like to note that nothing actually says Saul was taken into the Maguuma Jungle. It only says “into a forest” that was “weeks ride” away from Beetletun. We don’t even know if that ‘ride’ was by carriage… or by boat.

I’m gonna be a fool here and just say that I believe the Exalted in the middle of the other two in the initial HoT trailer is Saul. When I saw what looked to be a white hood of sorts on the back of his head/neck, it instantly struck me.

These exalted are clearly not mursaat, but it’s very possible that the leaders of the white mantle found a way through ancient magic to elevate themselves.

Uhm… Source?

I don’t think this has ever been stated. Closest thing is that souls go mad from being in the Realm of Torment for too long. But that’s to be expected – if you’re tortured for so long, you eventually break.

They were more connected to the Ring of Fire bloodstone, and equally connected to the Shiverpeaks bloodstone (which we go near). So I fail to see how that’s a relevant connection.

Were they physically / magically connected? I raced through prophecies story, but it seems more like a ‘we need to use these bloodstones to prevent the titans murdering us all’ sort of connect.
Also my theory is that the Mursaat we see in the trailer are actually constructed with the souls of the dead Mursaat bound to them. But then again their different appearance could simply be the result of them not being Mursaat or just a redesign from GW1 → 2.
As for sole survivor, the wiki seems to indicate one of few http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lazarus_the_Dire but you know wiki is a community thing so pedantry is kinda pointless.

Considering that they were all spellcasters, they probably were, but only in the way that all spellcasters (except possibly Ritualists and those using similar magic) were back then. Otherwise, though, there’s no indication of them having any special relationship with the bloodstones apart from finding them to be a useful tool.

Regarding surviving mursaat: in War in Kryta, one of the Shining Blade NPCs tells us that there are only eight living mursaat remaining according to their intelligence, and then we proceed to kill seven of them (with Lazarus being the survivor). However, it’s always possible that said intelligence was incomplete.

As a matter of fact, said NPC (Salma herself) only accounts for seven mursaat, omitting Lazarus entirely, so unless she got some information we players never did about his death the intelligence was definitely incomplete.
