the Jade Maw was probably a tease by anet ‘so they think the DSD is in Cantha,well,DSD has tentacle minions,lets take all tentacly things we can find and throw em into a canthan area’
Don’t forget that the Fractals are not only from past and future Tyria, but also Tyrias from alternate timelines and realities. Any Fractal should only be looked at as canon as that they are accessible, not that they are history or future.
With the exception of the tentacles, the thing always looked like those large Leviathans to me.
