Krait and Nightmare Court
I’m not a fan at all of alliances coming out of the blue, I’m still a bit bitter about the Molten alliance (I guess they would be fine if it weren’t for the whole Scarlett/Aetherblades/Everything that Anet can tie in together).
Hmmmm, maybe. I am also wondering though, with all the Sylvari things as of late in the Living World, could this all maybe be a lead up to the reveal of Mordremoth? Earlier in the Living World story I thought it was all leading up to the reveal of the Deep Sea Dragon (I refuse to call it “bubbles” lol) But now, with Scarlet as the main enemy, her vision in the Eternal Alchemy, which to me seemed to kind of tie in with what might be an Elder Dragon, and now with the Krait and Nightmare Court? I don’t know, maybe the Court are indeed minions of some sort of Mordremoth (but not in the full sense as Sylvari are immune to Dragon corruption) and they promised the Krait the power of the Dragon Mordremoth?
Now, we haven’t officially seen any corrupted minions of Mordremoth that we know of, but the Krait in this trailer, well, that green glow, kinda has me thinking that maybe they are corrupted by an elder dragon? Just a thought
It is impossible lol. Don’t believe that editorial. The krait will never ally themselves with another race. Nightmare Court is not even mentioned on the official release page.
I agree it seems somewhat out of character for Krait, but the teaser to me just screamed Nightmare Court involvement. My guess is that somehow the Krait are worshipping them, or something along those lines, since the quote was like “They’ve heard whispers of power”, so maybe they were ok with being influenced for more power
Well, the only power I could see them finding worthy of worship, would be an Elder Dragon…. The Nightmare Court themselves aren’t particularly worthy of worship, at least not in the eyes of the Krait I wouldn’t think.

It is however mentioned on several other sites that reported the review, and usually those sites get more information than the preview page at first.
It is fully possible that they would ally themselves if force to it or see the possibility of returning their Prophet or something like that.

If so, this will be another poisonous plot twist in the lore and the story is going incredibly wrong. Scarlet had a secret base in Twilight Arbor but that did not mean that she allied herself with the Nightmare Court. I don’t see the krait allying with the Nightmare Court at all.
Why would it be a “poisonous plot twist” when it is something that is quite logical to do?
Krait are not stupid, and they would do anything to make their Prophet return, and I don’t doubt they would use Nightmare Court in order to achieve that if necessary.

Again, the krait will enslave and kill any other species on sight. Despite of them being serpentine like the Forgotten, they are not friendly at all. And “with the help of the Nightmare Court” that is just wrong. It could be like you said they used them as slaves and not allies.
What if they simply came into possession of one of the seeds like Ronan did?
Kraits sees Nightmare Court members=Nightmare Court members gets sacrificed. That’s the extent of their relationship.
Krait found their own Pale Tree seed. That’s what happened.

The Krait finding their own seed would probably be my favorite development.
Now that would be interesting! Krait shaped sylvari with their everpresent pets and guards, fernsharks!

You are trying to apply human logic to the Kraits. The kraits see ALL other races as food and sacrifices. Nothing more.

I doubt they would kill everything they saw if they managed to figure out another way to use them in order to help with their bringing back the Prophet.

You know, the only time in Guild Wars 2 where the Krait have ever allied with other races is while under the influence of Zhaitan, as Risen Krait. Maybe under the influence of an Elder Dragon like Mordremoth, they would ally themselves with the Nightmare Court since it’s been theorized that they too are minions or at least allies of the Elder Dragon.
In Twilight Assault, Scarlet somehow got the Nightmare Court’s cooperation. In Tower of Nightmares, we see purple thorned vines reminiscent of old NC weapons and what looks like a giant flower at the top of the tower, with a lot of use of toxins (NC love their poisonous plants).
My bets are that Scarlet formed the alliance when she was settling the deal with the NC for space in Twilight Arbor.
Now, we haven’t officially seen any corrupted minions of Mordremoth that we know of, but the Krait in this trailer, well, that green glow, kinda has me thinking that maybe they are corrupted by an elder dragon? Just a thought
That glow reminds me of something – something that made the karka and other wildlife on Southsun go crazed. Remember those yellow-greenish fungi spoors? And the crazed animals have yellow pollen. And now the krait are yellow-greenish skinned.
Calling Mordremoth corruption all throughout here.

“Behind a veil of illusion, dark alliances toil in secret. Driven by whispers of power and madness. Unseen by all, they constructed magnificent, something terrible. It is more than a weapon. It is a monument to fear.”
^ From the trailer
Krait allied with someone. This is pointblank obvious. And they did so for power and/or madness.
Krait in it for power; Nightmare Court in it for madness. Sounds like the same kind of set up Scarlet used for the Molten Alliance.

You didn’t read the short story, did you?
“Though I can’t say why the Nightmare Court is,” Sparki added. “I’ll never comprehend how she got those poisonous peonies to let her have her way with this place.” http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Short_Story:_Twilight_Preparations

They may not be stupid, but religious fanatic zealots don’t tend to use reason and logic in their actions.
And the krait are about as fanatically religious as you can get. They view that all surface races, undeniably, are inferior to them. Without exception – any exception. That is the lore we were given. They aren’t just xenophobic, they’re narcissistically xenophobic. They don’t just hate all other races, they view themselves superior in every way possible, more so to the pitiful races that cannot breath underwater.
Honestly, the one and only way for Scarlet to have gotten the krait to ally with her – or anyone else for that matter – would be if she went directly to their leaders, the Oratuss, and convinced them. The rest follow their leaders without question or remorse, fanatically viewing the Oratuss as the voice of their prophets.
And chances are, Scarlet somehow managed to do that – because who else but Scarlet could do something so outlandishly impossible without a hitch? And besides, we all know Scarlet loves unusual combinations.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
I pray you are wrong Konig, because I don’t want to lose my 20 gold…
Chances are there won’t be direct confirmation in the first patch. So I’ll be waiting for Nov. 12th to facepalm at being right.
Edit: http://www.guildwars2hub.com/features/editorials/tower-nightmares
“Working in secret, the sinister reptilian krait have created the Tower of Nightmares with the help of the Nightmare Court and some other mysterious benefactor.”
“mysterious benefactor” sounds like Scarlet to me.

Lore will be killed. Would Germany in 1939 ally with “inferior” Jews? That’s the story that they would have to sell to the players.
If the story writer does go this route, I think we can all officially consider lore dead. It is really pointless to keep track of the lore when the writers can change them tomorrow like lore never existed.
Tomorrow Separatists will ally with Renegades. Because why not? Let’s ally to kill the good guys first, and then continue to fight each over over Ascalon.

@Konig The color looks familiar to me as well. You can’t put too much stock into that, unless Mordremoth is also the progenitor of all shadow imps.
I wonder, does ArenaNet think it’s impossible for one evil race to just do evil things without being in cahoots with every other evil race/group?
As to what Aaron was talking about, the idea of the Fervid Censor coming back into the story is actually the first thing I thought when I saw the video. The top of the tower, in some shots, almost looks like an enlarged Censor. IDK how they would have gotten it, but it makes sense that they would use it to spread fear. I mean we can see from the effect it has on the Karka that it has some possible mind altering side effects. In my mind, I’m honestly thinking of the Scarecrow from Batman…

Well, maybe Scarlet used Censor to brainwash krait? So they would build this enlarged version with the help of the NC, so they can spread the toxin across tyria.
I just don’t see any of this coming together in any way. I hope it really isn’t all just explained with: Scarlet is mysterious so we can’t understand her motives, Scarlet is silver tongued so everyone servers her with no explanation, Scarlet understands everything so she can make new weapons for all our enemies. Again.
Well, if this yet another Villain-Suelet-orchestrated alliance, shall we start taking odds on what’s next?
“The White Mantle is a fanatical organisation loyal to an elder race that fought the Elder Dragons before giving up and retreating into another dimension! The Sons of Svanir are the norn followers of the Elder Dragon Jormag. Together, under Scarlet, they fight cr… the law!”
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
Too predictable and not lore-breaking enough.
It’ll be Renegades and White Mantle. Or Sons of Svanir and centaurs. Or maybe it’ll be Margonites and Ministry of Purity.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Or skritt and Jotun! I bet on skritt and jotun!
Everyone should realize by now, that its the skritt king pulling all the strings in this drama. That’s what Scarlett saw!!The unrivalled brilliance that is his highness! The only creature on Tyria smarter then her.
Yes, he is tired of suffering NC attacks, and took control of the Court, and is now leading them to die by our hands, brilliant!
I’m sure Scarlet will bring the Mursaat and Abaddon and Dhuum and Menzies and the revived bodies of every GW1 PC and the Pact and the Elder Dragons all together. It’s not like that’d be complete nonsense and completely out of line with any and all lore ever. In fact, it seems to be what Anet are shooting for nowadays. Now, if you’ll all pardon me, I’m going to go dig a grave in my back yard for all the lore so it can have a peaceful resting place when they’re done violating it.
Why not have the Pact (yes, that’s us) ally with Scarlet? Maybe we somehow agree to giving up Queen Jennah to Scarlet as a sacrifice or playmate, because Scarlet have a way to kill all elder dragons. Logan of course disagrees, but we end up killing him and all the rest of Destiny’s Edge.
Why not? Anything is possible with Scarlet.

I’m almost positive that this tower is going to be how she got the NC to allow her to use part of TA… And I’d imagine she somehow convinced these krait (I’m almost every other group of krait will see the krait of Kessex as Heretics) that they’ll be able to bring back their prophet through this alliance, or maybe she convinced the blood witch that she could give her some power and being as greedy as she seems to be, jumped on it and her followers asked no questions.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
You guys are thinking too small for this Scarlet character really. You see first she will travel into the Mists and get the Six Gods to bow down to her brilliance. Once they return she will then force all of the charr legions to bow down and worship the gods, and through them, herself. Once done there, she will turn her eyes on the remaining Elder Dragons. She’ll walk up to Kralkatorrik and flick him on the nose. That right there will be enough for him, and soon all of them, to follow her. In fact, for the beauty of it, she’ll re-animate Zhaitan and give each god a dragon that they can ride upon whenever she gets the urge (Thus the 6 Gods and 6 Dragons are tied together in the end). After this she talks to the norn and they decide to shape up and start creating standard armies and seige weaponry, leaving behind their dreams for legends. And the humans will have no choice but to follow her with their dragon riding gods moving at her whim, in fact their 6 gods will be worshipped only slightly underneath the one true god… Scarlet. The Asura will give up their science for her. Stopping all of their work unless it is something she wishes for. And the Sylvari will give up both dream and nightmare and become free to do whatever they wish, no Wyld Hunt to lead their paths. And thus GW2 ends, of course with our PC’s tied to a stake burning to death because we dared fight her once.
Scarlet is the Queen and Creator of all Reapers. It all make sense now!

Then the PC wakes up from a massive nightmare in a terrible sweat gasping for air. As he’s trying to get his mind collected a knock comes to the door. Upon opening the door he notices a sylvari woman who speaks, “Hi, My name is Ceara. Can I …” The PC pulls out his sword and decapitates her before she can finish her sentence.
Has anyone noticed how Faolain was corrupted by the Nightmare near or in Orr?
Krait have been seen all over the Sea of Sorrows and claim their Prophets have ascended to a higher plan…
Certain Karka and other wildlife of Southsun Cove have a similar energy around them as the Nightmare Court and these Nightmare Krait do…
What if the ascended Krait Prophets are The Nightmare?
Too predictable and not lore-breaking enough.
It’ll be Renegades and White Mantle. Or Sons of Svanir and centaurs. Or maybe it’ll be Margonites and Ministry of Purity.
I disagree about it not being lore-breaking enough: that was the whole point, in fact. The mursaat, after all, know full well the threat the EDs pose, even if they have a way to avoid it themselves, so they’d be the last to ally with servants of a dragon…
…unless, come to think on it, Lazarus really is so far gone that he sees ED domination of Tyria as a suitable revenge.
Okay, counteroffer: The Forgotten ally with the Sons of Svanir under Scarlet. (We had to fight them to achieve Ascension, so that means they’re villains, right? Right?)
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
Quaggan+Karka
Because then we’ll have enraged quaggans riding on karka mounts into battle. And nothing can be more epic than that.

Oooh, you present a convincing case.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t have the same hilarity factor, but let me present: Mursaat and Titans. The mursaat may have spent centuries trying to prevent the titans from entering our world only to fail and be subjected to genocide by them, but one silver-tongued plant-girl from the city was all it took to persuade both sides that the other really isn’t so bad after all!
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
Well the nightmare court are arrogant and love inflicting pain, misery, fear, etc. on others and in the dream. Krait sound like perfect viscous buddies for them or better yet teachers.
But the real question is…
Why are the krait glowing? Did they eat some Sylvari courtiers an gain their bioluminescence?
See you in Tyria.
As I have stated before, the Nightmare Court liking the Krait isn’t an issue in my book. It is the other way around, the Krait allying with the Nightmare Court that really kitten es me off.
As I see it, there is only THREE ways in which the krait allying with the Nightmare Court works:
- Somehow the Oratuss got convinced. Extremely unlikely and hard to believe. The Oratuss control the fanatic krait so they’d listen to whatever the Oratuss says.
- The krait got corrupted by Mordremoth and Mordremoth is indeed behind the Nightmare. This would mean that the whole krait aren’t into the alliance.
- The krait have enslaved the Nightmare Court – and they don’t care, because even pain inflicted upon the self furthers their cause.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Of course they will ally themselves to
cool now I see the scale of this mob
And on topic;
No Matter how xenophobic someone/group is they will ally with whom ever will help them get what they want, as it was said before RL example; Axis powers. Although when or if such goal is achieved they would have to fight it out with each other until only one remains.
(edited by Greyfur.1082)
Krait being “racist radicals” comes from just the old blog, nope?
M: Bladedancer – N: Scourge – En: Occultist – Ra: Swampstalker
T: Sharpshooter – G: Sunspear – Re: Hierophant – W: Corsair
Everything we saw of them in GW1, and everything we see of them in GW2. Never in the storyline have the krait allied with anyone that I can think of. They always stay to their own, even when they are dealing with risen and have another group (the pact) nearby also fighting the risen.
Okay, there are several possibilities:
The Krait are using Nightmare Court slaves. The NC slaves might have arranged their own capture for NC ends.
Scarlet or someone else in the NC offered the krait something they really, really wanted. For example, the Krait Orb.
An outside force manipulated the krait Obelisks and told them to work with the NC. Alternatively, the Obelisks told them to work with the NC.
The lore page states the krait feel superior because they are undefeated. The Pact came and beat the unbeatable Zhaitan, and now the krait feel threatened. They were driven out of the deeps by Bubbles, and they think they can take from the land races something that will allow them to kill Bubbles like the Pact killed Zhaitan.
Nothing above is inconsistent with krait lore. Maybe ANet will not go that route, but it is perfectly possible to arrange cooperation without defying lore.
