Krait in the northern sea...?
I think this is an error since afaik that’s the only mention of such. Krait are reptilian so I don’t think they’d be able to survive in frigid waters and there’s no presence of krait up north in-game.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Actually you’re a bit wrong about the first part Konig, which is part of the reason I’m considering this at all. The deep sea is frigid anyway.
Even the krait living in the depths of the Unending Ocean had to deal with temperatures of 5-0°C.
They might be coldblooded like deep-sea fish rather than reptilians or a mix of both, giving them a wide range of temperatures they can live in.
Your second point – yeeeeah I know there are no krait in Frostgorge. :P
But if this snipped is true, there still could be north in Jormag’s territory which is why I’ve asked for mention of them. Does any kodan mention them? Any Norn? Any book? If no one’s ever seen that mentioned outside of the PS, then it’s definitely a slip.

Well…what if krait came to north from the west? Maybe they came to Janthir Bay from Unending Ocean, and as we know, the northern Shiverpeaks are flooded. I think it is possible.

I’m with Konig on this one. One of the kodan does mention krait, but not in any way that suggests they live in the north (the kodan in Frostgorge seem to have learnt enough about several southern cultures to pass judgement on them), and it’s implicitly stated elsewhere that cold-blooded creatures usually can’t live in the Shiverpeaks- the same Shiverpeaks that are almost intolerably hot for creatures from the northern sea.
I just checked the heart and yeah none of these Kodan seem to indicate that they live in the north. Haven’t come across any norn or quaggan on my search so far indicating anything either. I’m trusting both you and Konig on this, so it can probably be dismissed as a strange text-error.
Though what I meant to say is technically they could live in cold waters since the temperature in the ocean trenches is around the freezing point anyway. I assume the ice-drake description refers to arctic temperatures in general (both water and land! where the ice drake probably is unique).
Krait were all over the Northern areas in LS1, but I suppose they were wearing plot insulation.
The furthest north they’ve ever been in cold areas is Lornar’s Pass. The furthest north they’ve ever been in not-cold areas is Gendarran Fields and Queensdale- and that is very, very minor in numbers. They’ve never been very far north.

There were Krait defending thumper/probes in Snowden and Frostgorge. (as well as defending them in snow areas of the Mists)

If Quaggan are mammals that can lay eggs, we shouldn’t assume that the Krait are reptiles that are cold blooded. Or even reptiles at all, since reptiles can’t breath underwater.
Krait are coldblooded however. In the Sylvari PS-step where you save Tegwen, one of the krait calls you ‘warmblooded filth’. Furthermore they might not breath air at all, considering their blog refers to them as eating ‘air-breathers’.
Though they’re still to referred as snakes and serpents. Occasionally some NPCs call them eels, though that’s probably just a nickname.
Also hey, Quaggans could be some sort of Tyrian Platypus! ;P

Those were just being ferried up by Scarlet, however. They weren’t native to the area- it’s one thing to do work somewhere and quite another to live there for the long-term.

If they are cold blooded reptilian they should not been there at all.
Not native to the region, fine. “Never been that far north” is incorrect.
Because, they have “been that far north”, survived the cold and fought and functioned fine until killed by players. The environment did nothing to them.
but yeah, Scarlet. Oh, Look, ley lines. Whatever.

Sometimes I really miss lore just written down as texts and Beastiaries.
While theorycrafting is okay, having that little solid informations can be annoying and hard to believe it was planned.

Couldn’t agree more. That is one thing that has always bugged me too. Having pieces of lore written down, whether in-game or out-of-game, would be so much better. It’s not like GW2 is lacking in lore.
