LA: The Hotzone
At least two of the Elder Dragons have expressed designs for Lion’s Arch: Zaithan and Jormag. Zaithan came very close to capturing it, Jormag is yet to make a move for it. But why Lion’s Arch? A number of (possible) reasons are presented below:
1) Biodiversity
Lion’s Arch “is a melting pot where all the races gather and trade” (from the Wiki). It is the perfect place in which to release a biological agent (Draconic corruption).
2) Collaboration
Interracial cooperation is realised in Lion’s Arch. The unification of the races is the foremost threat to the success of the Elder Dragons.
3) Economics
Lion’s Arch is like the Wall Street of Tyria – disrupting it would destabilise economies contient-wide making the business of war cheaper.
Survival
Can we survive the Elder Dragons? The Pact’s attempt to destroy Zaithan strongly suggest so. But the Pact has resorted to brute force involving risky confrontations with forces described as primordal. Is it possible that other approaches could be adopted? Let’s brainstorm the ways in which we could try to survive the Elder Dragons.
1) Last Man Standing
A fight to the death between the Pact and the Elder Dragons. We have numbers on our side and a degree of unification that the Elder Dragons do not seem interested in exploring.
2) Evacuation
Like the Mursaat, we can temporarily evacuate Tyria until the Elder Dragons return to their slumber.
3) Deception
We can enlist the aid of powerful magic to help us fool the Dragons into thinking that we don’t exist. This has already been successfully demonstrated through Glint. It remains to be seen, however, whether we have any other creatures capable of so deceiving the Dragons now that Glint is dead.
4) Innoculation
We can develop an antidote to Draconic corruption. Preliminary tests have proven promising, with the cleansing of the corruption of Zaithan from a test subject in Orr. We also have notable examples of potentially immune individuals within populations: Almorra Soulkeeper for one and Asgeir for another. Of course, these individuals may have been protected by something, such as magical artifacts, but in either case either we use them to develop innoculations or mass reproduce the artifacts credited with preserving them.
