Q:

When doing the story arc “Down the Hatch”, Lady Wi, in her opening speech starts with “Tybalt! Thank the Lady of the Mirror.”

Who is she referring to? One of the 6 Gods?

The Lady of the Mirror would probably refer to Lyssa, due to her affinity with beauty and mirrors. Although personally I think thanking Dwayna would make more sense. But since Lady Wi is a mesmer, of course she means Lyssa.

Lyssa is the deity of all mesmers.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lyssa

“Lyssa is the twin Goddess of Beauty and Illusion, individually known as Lyss and Ilya. She is the patron Goddess of Mesmers and Assassins, and is also associated with the Energy Storage techniques of Elementalists and the Mysticism of Dervishes. In the Elonian calendar, she is associated with the Season of the Zephyr.

Lyssa spent time living among the humans, veiled and hidden, in the village of Wren. However, when Arah was completed she was called to join the other Gods. Lyss, half of the twin Goddess, is extremely important to the people of Vabbi, who believe that it was she who shaped the world, and that they were molded in her own glorious image.

In most of the world, Lyssa is portrayed in the same way: as twin figures of exquisite beauty entwined in an eternal dance. When the world has the Favor of the Gods, a golden light appears around the base of statues of Lyssa, and the statues are enveloped in a brilliant white light, casting off any vegetation that has grown on the statue since the world last held Favor."

-That description is from Guild Wars 1, in which the six were more explicitly linked to the professions. The GW2 wiki is less clear about the link between Lyssa and mesmers.

I always thought of it as an allusion to the Mirror of Lyss.

The mirror of Lyss is simply named after Lyssa (or one of her aspects, Lyss), and Lyssa’s affinity with mirrors and illusions. Mirrors and Lyssa go hand in hand.

Not necessarily. To the best of my knowledge, there is no other direct connection, save for that lake.

Not necessarily. To the best of my knowledge, there is no other direct connection, save for that lake.

“Lyssa is the dual-faced goddess of beauty, water, and illusion. She is in actuality twins, Ilya and Lyss,”

Thus she is linked with mirrors. Mesmers are also linked to mirror images, reflections, and illusions. The mirror is symbolic of Lyssa, just like fire is symbolic of Balthazar, and ice is symbolic of Grenth. Deities are often linked to objects, totem animals, and elements.

That’s duality, not mirrors. I’m not disagreeing with you that the connection exists, I’m just stating that Lady Wi’s remark could well be linked to the only place where we see mirrors and Lyssa linked together.

Aaron, the Cathedral of Eternal Radiance is also a gigantic hand mirror. There’s a PoI to its north, where the grand support beams rise above Reflection Cove (another allusion to mirrors), called Mirror’s Handle (Mirror being the Cathedral).

And I believe the Mirror of Lyss and Sebelkeh Basilica were inspired by the Cathedral.

So yes, Lady of the Mirror is Lyssa, as the others have explained already. Mirror is symbolic of the twins who are one – and who are each other’s mirror images.

I do believe there is a direct mention of Lyssa and a mirror as an expression in GW2. Not sure when or where though.

But I do believe that the Lady of the Mirror is meant to be Lyssa.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
