I am in this game for the game lore/game world itself. I see any part of it: open world events, Living World, Dungeons, Fractals, Quests, even PvP and WvW as a piece of the story of Tyria.

The reason why I go to dungeons in the first place is to find out what happens next in the story!

Then I find out I have to have play with Others.
Fine, it is how Guild Wars 2 was built.
The Others, having practical sense of what will enable maximum survivability and maximum speed, demand I have the right gear.
So it boils down to: no gear, no lore experience.
No farming, no gear.

Yes, I am being supremely lazy in terms of grinding. I hate to go round in loops.
But I am willing to play out a sequential story for hours on end. Till I collapse.

Now raids are coming in with super-exclusive content.
Brilliant. MORE things I have to grind in order to know the story for, let alone the fact that I need to pay real-world currency to buy. Buying is fine, it keeps the game alive. Grinding is fine, it makes one appreciate the worth of what they are using. But I want the story first.

I have two requests of ArenaNet:

  1. Could you please make a much easier “Tour” mode where we can solo a dungeon or raid like a quest? You may keep your rewards, I want the story! Not one single copper.
I also want to safely see every single nook and cranny of a dungeon. Of Tyria! You may unlock dungeon/raid rewards for those who have farmed and donned the requisite gear, making the system recognise them as viable entrants to a dungeon or raid for loot or achievements or whatever they want as a prize. No need to throw players against each other in LFG. Let the dungeon entry system decide who comes in for loot. Let those who want the story go in for the story without hassle.
  2. Could you please populate and open up the entire map of Tyria?
I want to go everywhere, see and do everything, meet everyone in the tale!

Tyria Wishlist:

  • Isles of Janthir
  • Janthir Bay
  • Maguuma Wastes
  • Magus Falls
  • Tarnished Coast
  • Strait of Malchor
  • Ring of Fire
  • Unending Ocean
  • Woodland Cascades
  • Unmarked territory between Sparkfly Fen and Timberline Falls
  • The Wizard’s Flying Castle in Wizard’s Fief, south of Garenhoff.
  • Far Shiverpeaks
  • Blood Legion Homelands
  • Blazeridge Mountains
  • Deldrimor Front
  • Crystal Desert
  • Elon River
  • Scavenger’s Causeway
  • Racial Territories of: The Tengu, The Largos, The Jotun, with full stories (no less than 30 quests and 3 dungeons each).
  • And please also make use of the extant big, beautiful Home Cities/Areas that you have built in order to create a quest-rich environment. Upgrade Divinity’s Reach from beautiful diorama to beautiful city.
  • Underground World of Tyria: The layered map of Tyria offers many possibilities. An entire world, unbeknownst to the citizens of Tyria, right beneath their feet! New races, quests, and a throwback to the ancient residence of the Asura!
  • Ditto underwater realm
  • Ditto the skies! Want to fly? Great. We have a whole world up in the sky. Is this where the Tengu come in? Or the Zephyrites return?

If some parts of this map predate current events in Tyria, let it be like a trip back in time in the first few introductory quests. If the abovementioned zones of Tyria are part of the Guild Wars experience, then please provide Guild Wars for the Mac.

The possibilities are endless. You have the grinders, the hitters and achievers. Then you have the lore fans. It feels like we are a niche market, unprofitable in comparison to the bounty hunters. Regardless for the reasons we play, we are here because we all have a love for beautiful things and stories. Something in Tyria appeals to all of us. Well, you can sell us your story!

Six Dragons: four down, two to go. (If my reckoning is correct) What will you do when all six are down, then? Are they really down?

Meanwhile, life continues, with all its intricacies, in all parts of Tyria.

What? No. Far from it, only 1 down, Zhaitan, with HoT we’ll start the hunt against our 2nd dragon Mordremoth.

BTW pretty much only the Story Mode dungeons are the ones that have lore (excluding Arah, the explorable paths are amazing lore-wise) so you wouldn’t have issues to form a group for that.
If you have a REALLY hard time to see the lore in dungeons then use Youtube in your favor, I particularly prefer that method since you can really pay attention to the lore and not the game mechanics.

1) Tour mode. Forget about that. First of all, dungeon is abandoned so they won’t put resources into that. And even if they weren’t, tour mode focus on such a small portion of the community that it’s not worth the effort really.

2) We all want that, players and Anet alike. But it need resources and time. We’ll see how much of the maguma waste we’ll have in the expansion, but raids will also give us a huge amount of map. Your wish list will probably take a lot of time. I guess 6-8 years at least, but probably more.

For you problem with dungeon. Take your time and ask for a group to see all the cutscene. Just write ‘’First Time, Watch cutscene’‘. It’s not a popular way to do dungeon, so it might take a bit time to be able to get a party like that. Another thing you can do that would more easy. Watch the cutscene on youtube then go in the dungeon with a groud. Finish it and then you could run around the dungeon after everybody quit the party and look everywhere. They might still have some enemies so watch out, but you will have all the time in the world. A third solution would be to go in a guild and make friend. I wouldn’t do that for a stranger, but if my friend would want to do a complete swipe of a dungeon I would mind helping him a week end.

1) Agree with Thaddeus. There is already an answer to your wishes- A-net doesn’t need to spend a heap load of dev time implementing this as it would serve very little purpose and won’t appeal to a very large audience. Make an LFG for the path you want to run. Write “Kill all mobs and watch cutscenes”. Do the dungeon, and then you can wait for your group to leave if you want, giving you the opportunity to run around the dungeon to explore for yourself.

2) Yes, I want more maps too. More variety, new landscapes, enemies, allies. The thing is, we expect these maps because they were given to us in GW1. GW2 is a very different beast and is far more content dense than GW1 was. I feel like GW1 had to be as big in order to slow the game down a bit. To add all of these maps in GW2 would be more difficult than it was in GW1 as they’d have to maintain the same level of quality and content density that’s available in current maps.

We’re getting a good chunk of the Maguuma Wastes (and possible Magus Falls) with HoT. There’s some fan theory to suggest that the gap between Timberline Falls and Sparkfly will eventually be a raid, as the space is just the right size for it.

I think we can expect the Crystal Desert sometime in the future along with Dominion of Winds (TenguLand) as they’re already signposted and tantalisingly close… just behind a guarded door that we’re not allowed through.

It appears that the Wizard’s Castle had a few iterations before launch. There’s some theory that it was going to be some sort of dungeon, but it got cut. Currently, the castle is particularly tiny, so anything “inside” it would have to be a portal-ed instance (i.e. it’s probably not suitable for a fun mini dungeon or something). I kind of like the area’s mystique though- wondering what could be inside lore-wise, or what it could’ve become game-wise is more interesting than getting something served up for us (in my opinion).

I think it’s a little crazy to ask for 3 dungeons EACH for races that we’d like to learn more about. Currently there’s about 1 dungeon for each of the playable races, so I think it’d be a huge push to ask for more than that. Asking for a fractal level revolving around them would be more likely in my opinion… but you don’t get cutscenes from fractals. A lot of the lore is kind of hidden away and requires a bit of player research.

Also… I don’t think the tengu can fly. I don’t remember anything regarding their possibly flying ability in GW1. The zephyrites got all but wiped out during early LS2 and a the Pact Fleet just got destroyed mid-air too, so I think it would be a very long time until we see the skies . An underwater revamp would be possible, perhaps when we learn more about the Deep Sea Dragon.

Zhaitan is the only elder dragon defeated currently. I’m not sure if the DSD is dormant or active, but the other 4 are certainly active. Primordus’ destroyers are still attacking and being held off by the stone dwarves. Kralkatorrik caused devastation just a few years back, which led Almorra Soulkeeper to form the Vigil. Jormag caused the Norn to flee south just several decades back. Mordremoth goes without saying.

I don’t mean to come off as rude here, but I hear you asking for more lore, more to learn. But from your OP (and the few mistakes dotted throughout) it makes me think that you’ve already got a lot of exciting things to discover already! There’s so much hidden beneath the surface. I really recommend reading the 3 GW2 novels. Traul through the wikis- especially the GW1 wiki. The GW1 wiki is so well written and rich in beautiful information. Explore and interact with as many NPCs and objects as possible- if something isn’t immediately obvious/doesn’t make sense, wiki it. There are lots of hidden gems hailing to old characters or real life people.

Are you in a NA server? You can join Mentors of the Meek starting HoT launch date, and I’m sure one of us will take you through dungeons the way you want to do them.

So it boils down to: no gear, no lore experience.
No farming, no gear.

You don’t need any particular set of gear beyond right rarity and level for dungeons. Those who say you need such are speed runners who will not wait for you to enjoy the story anyways. Find friends or guildies or put up in the LFG casual run watching cinematics etc.

Now raids are coming in with super-exclusive content.

I wouldn’t call it “super exclusive” so much as “the highest challenge”. This is little different than Domain of Anguish, The Deep, Urgoz’s Warren, Tomb of the Primeval Kings, and The Underworld of GW1.

Which basically means that it’ll require top gear until people figure out the mechanics and create guides for easiest actions and builds. Then the “best gear” will only be “for optimal chance of survival/fastest time completion” which won’t be necessary for “just completion”.

  1. Could you please populate and open up the entire map of Tyria?
I want to go everywhere, see and do everything, meet everyone in the tale!

That list is basically 6 years worth of work for ArenaNet, y’know.

And please also make use of the extant big, beautiful Home Cities/Areas that you have built in order to create a quest-rich environment. Upgrade Divinity’s Reach from beautiful diorama to beautiful city.

The point of cities is that – outside of special events – they’re meant to be event-less. They have their own story, but there’d be no combat. So you can take your characters there without qualm of being attacked.

Underground World of Tyria: The layered map of Tyria offers many possibilities. An entire world, unbeknownst to the citizens of Tyria, right beneath their feet! New races, quests, and a throwback to the ancient residence of the Asura!

Will come with Primordus, no doubt.

Ditto underwater realm

Will come with the Deep Sea Dragon, no doubt.

Ditto the skies! Want to fly? Great. We have a whole world up in the sky. Is this where the Tengu come in? Or the Zephyrites return?

Tengu don’t fly. And I think ArenaNet made a point that they want to avoid aerial combat. Gliding in HoT (and likely future maps) will probably be the closest we get.

Six Dragons: four down, two to go. (If my reckoning is correct) What will you do when all six are down, then? Are they really down?

Uh… Only Zhaitan’s been killed.

Are you mistaking The Shatterer, Claw of Jormag, and Tequatl for Elder Dragons? Because they’re not. Neither are Blightghast, Glint, Shadow of the Dragon, or the other three dragon-shaped champions of Zhaitan.

Need ideas? Am willing to write!

No game company is short of ideas. Everyone has them.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
