So I love my characters to fit the lore by profession and race. I know this is exactly the opposite GW2 wanted because they made it so all races are all professions.
But anyway does a Norn and Engineer make any sense? the engi I had planned was a Elixir Engi, not sure how that build would work. I was thinking maybe they could be “ale” in the Elixirs and because Norns love ale he decided to be an Engi to always make them?
You can basically justify every race/class combination to some extent. Some are obviously less common than others, but possible non the less.
Your specific example of a Norn Engineer: Snowleopard is the cunning spirit, Raven the spirit of knowledge(-ish). This and curiosity may drive a norn (maybe a physically weaker norn) to turn to wielding a kittening giant kitten flamethrower to burn his enemies to the ground.
The only thing that might go against “lore” is in fact the engineer, however in other combinations.
I still do not get why an asura would use such “low tech” equipment every other engineer is using, instead of their design.
Why do the turrets all look the same, even if we know that almost every race has their won turret designes.. etc..
Norn simply seek to build their legend. How they do it doesn’t matter – there’s a norn in Hoelbrak who intends to make his legend by counting all the unique snowflakes that fall from the sky, and one in LA who intends to be the best dock worker of all time. There’s a norn (historical) who made his legend by walking across the Shiverpeaks, stopping to drink a barrel (I think) of ale at each and every tree he came across.
A norn engineer may seek to build his legend by becoming the best engineer, creating the most effective elixer, trap a foe with ingenious devices, etc.

engineering tech is not “low tech”. it’s magic-less advanced technology. it removes the reliability in magic of asuran technology while obtaining the same effect.
i’m pretty sure the asura aren’t stupid enough to not recognize the marvels of charr industrial, magicless technology.
does silvari engi make sense? I like my character’s lore to make sense so hard to decide!? I’ve been deleting and creating character since launch but just can’t think of a good combination since then I had to create silvari theif for more than 5 times just because the name sound so good in the beginning then after a week or so! I get bored and tired
All profession and race combinations make sense. Sylvari engineers were explained as the inquisitive race picking up the knowledge of other races and learning the way of technology – though some may have more plant-related stuff – like more eco-friendly flamethrower fuel.

Okay, let me rephrase it. Why should an asura engineer use the human peppermill turret, instead of an asura turret we see all around the world?
we see golems use “machinegun” style attacks.
There should be turrets for that as well.
I was mostly talking about the design here.
How they work can be the same, i just think it is rather odd that they all use the same design, even if the races themselves have proven to have their own designes for the same machines.
We saw sylvari "turrets (plant style and we can summon them, if we are one), we saw asura turrets and i belief we even saw charr building turrets.
Is it wrong to think that they should use their own cultural design there?

asura turrets and golems rely on magic. engineer turrets don’t. all asuran technology falls on the “magitech” aspect of things. all engineer technology falls on the “no magic at all” aspect.
it’s more than just design.
To add to what Bruno said, all engineers are using charr technology because of how effective it has proven to be. The designs are actually charr designs. Charr tech is new to the asura (as well as all the other playable non-charr races) and we see in the Black citadel that there are asura who can’t grasp the concept of complicated machinery that doesn’t rely on magic. So asura engineers are actually pioneering asura study of non-magic technology.
So I decided to go with another Charr Engi. Couldn’t make a cool norn engi.
Thanks for the thoughts!
We picked up a cool topic in here.

Yei for me used almost exactly the same reasoning when creating my 1st GW2 char 1,5 years ago at launch
An Asura Engineer pioneering in that field.
and maybe later will create an Asura College of non-magic reliant technology but i guess i wont be doin that in the game ever
