In my quest to finding the most “lore fitting” gear for my player character I have hit many obstacles. And with that I mean getting info on what’s the lore behind lots of types of armor in the world of Tyria.
An example of an armor set of which is very clear where it came from and what its purpose is/was would be all the faction armor a.k.a. Vigil, Order of Whispers and Durmand Priory.
But many sets of weapons and armor are not really making sense to me at the moment. Lets take the example of the Human Cultural Heavy armor tier 3. It’s the set that Logan wears. But what does it take to achieve such armor? Logan seems to be the only one who has the whole set equipped but you see tons of seraph having the chest and legs equipped combined with the CM armor. So it’s not very clear to whom or what this armor set originally belonged to and this goes for a lot of sets.
To continue on the seraph. In their hall, big statues of the CM heavy armor are displayed. But there literally isn’t an NPC in the entire game that is a seraph and wears the entire set.
My request would be for Anet to give small discriptions on each weapon or armor piece that describes the story of them.
And for them to start making sense with these sets as given example of the seraph.
Because it’s really frustrating to see them keep dumping in weapons and armor in the game with no real meaning.

I kinda of like it that way it makes the NPCs stand out more.(seem more like a rank thing to me) i notice many low rank(Initiate) Whispers NPCs dont have full sets
and the CM armor used to be given from a Seraph NPC in old LA
i guess the new LA (random) NPC kinda messed that up xD
i honestly dont think armor needs a description if it comes from a fitting NPC/Area/Town

Seraph armors are the banded that the standard guards use (I think it’s banded?), CM dungeon heavy armor, and t3 cultural. CM dungeon armor is used for either heavy infantry (I believe some Seraph minis have more armor types including medium and light, but the heavy armor sounding ones use CM armor). CM dungeon heavy and T3 cultural heavy go back and forth. Mixes or whole sets are used for officers typically, but like the Seraph medic group in dry top entirely use CM armor (though some lack the shoulders).

The fallen angels Seraph division in Ebonhawke use a slightly different setup, it’s mostly CM though.

Most armor sets are as the name implies, or just normal gear. A unique lore description on each set of weapons and armor would be a lot, and a chunk of it would be “This is a battered chainmail suit of armor.” “This is a banded suit of armor.” :P

The only things I’d like a description on would be the unique exotic skins really.

So, my question as a lore buff, what is your character? I could try to help figure out a fitting set of gear for you. Or, what armor class is your character, and what ‘faction’ are you trying to have your character look the part of?

I’m more interested in the lore behind Sylvari and asuran weapons.

I know Sylvari gear is grown magically, but the verdant and warden weapons seem to have some sort of glass or crystal component. Is it also grown? Is it hardened sap? Or do the Sylvari have access to some sort of highly resilient crystal substance that doesn’t shatter?

Meanwhile asuran weapons are clearly magically based. I know there are asura who roleplay the weapons as having the same cutting power as lightsabers from Star Wars, which I don’t know if I agree with. A lot of them could just as easily be electrical stun weapons instead of plasma edged cutting tools.

I wish we have more information on what some of these weapons are made of and how they function.

It’s extremely doubtful Asura weapons behave like lightsabers. Those black lion plasma weapons? Maaybe.

Though I’d see Asura weapons packing a punch to make up for their massive physical disadvantage.

My character is a noble human guardian with Grenth as god and is part of the Vigil. He also has a sister that served as a seraph. I figured out some nice combination yesterday though with the starting shoulder, the new guild chest and legs and vigil gloves and boots.
That doesn’t quench my thirst for better lore descriptions though.
