This forum really needs a sticky thread for this kinda question. Where a moderator, or a good lore expert, gives a good summery on the event of a living story after it’s over. If they are going to add stuff every two week, from now on, people will get lost story wise if the miss a month or two. Let’s see if I can give it a go…

Here’s what you missed on GW2!

After the attacks on the Captain’s Council of Lion’s Arch, by the Aetherblades sky pirates during the Dragon Bash Festival, it was left with a vacant seat with the death of Captain Theo Ashford.

Meanwhile, the Zephyrites, a group of zen-like wondering nomads, land their flying ship, the Zephyr Sanctum, in the Labyrinthine Cliffs. The Labyrinthine Cliffs is also hosting the Bazaar of the Four Winds, a large gathering of merchants from all across Tyria. These nomadic people learned to harness the power of the sun, wind, and lightning to power their flying ship and to live peacefully above the clouds.

Captain Magnus the Bloody-Handed, a member of the Captain’s Council and leader of the Lionguard, saw an opportunity with the Zephyr Sanctum’s arrival. If someone what able to make a trade agreement between Lion’s Arch and the Zephyrites, the Captain’s Council would be especially appreciative to that person if they decide to run for a seat on the council.

He quickly calls upon the newly made Captain Ellen Kiel, high ranking Lionguard member and captain of a “liberated” Aetherblade airship, to go to the Bazaar of the Four Winds and try to broker a deal between the two organizations.

Unknowingly, Captain Evon Gnashblade, co-founder and leader of the Black Lion Trading Company, was listening in on their conversation, and he very much wants to broker that deal himself…

First came the “Flame & Frost” saga.

It started off with mysterious attacks to the Norn and Charr settlements north of their respective cities, by an unknown force, that was hinted to use both fire magic and sonic technology. There was as well steam vents surfacing and micro-climate changes in Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau caused by them. We helped refugees seeking shelter at Hoelbrak and The Black Citadel while trying to find out what was happening. Some time later, the unknown forces that were attacking appeared in both zones through magic portals and dredge carriers; they were the Molten Alliance -an unlikely alliance of Flame Legion and Dredge- whom sought to merge their technologies in order to gain supremacy. At this point we meet the first two new heroes that were introduced: Rox, the Charr and Braham, the Norn.

You can learn more from them here:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/roxs-tale/
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/brahams-story/

Braham was denied support from both Rytlock and Knut (as well as Eir) to aid his homestead, Cragstead, against the Molten Alliance. So we went on to help him. After being successful and rescuing the homestead we find out the Molten Alliance has taken prisioners to their hideouts, amongst them Ottilia, whom apparently Braham is in love with.

Rox was given the task to clear out Nolani Hatchery as a test to see if she could join on Rytlock’s warband (which is a very famous and prestigious one), and so we went with her. After clearing out the place, Rox acquires a new pet, Frostbite -a small devourer- that clinches to her. And we also find out the Molten Alliance has taken prisioners.

At this point the refugees have already made their way to Lion’s Arch and set up a refugee camp with the aid of the Consortium. Whom have offered them the chance for a new beggining at Southsun Cove, where they are building a refugee camp as well.

Afterwards, with the aid of the Vigil, we descend into the Molten Facilities scattered around Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau’s underground tunnels. With both Braham and Rox we clear them out, rescue the prisioners and take some of our own into the Black Citadel. After questioning them we find out someone (a fast talking female from the city) was behind the alliance.

P.S. It’s late and given how long this has taken and how long there’s to tell, I will finish it tomorrow or someone else can take the duty, as well as correct me if there’s something wrong. I’m, of course, giving the general strokes of what happened rather than a detailed account because that would take several pages.

P.S.2 I might have misunderstood if you meant the most recent releases or everything Living Story related.

The first living story has been Flame & Frost who dealt with a newly formed alliance between the Flame legion shamans and the Dredges called the Molten Alliance.
This alliance raided Norn and Charrs territories, seemingly without any real goal but destruction, using a mix of dredge technology and shaman magic. Among the places they invaded, there is the homestead of Cragstead where Braham, a young norn, used to live. Braham is in fact the son of Eir Stegalkin (whom he doesn’t like that much due to her abandoning him when he was young in her quest agianst dragons) and traveled to Hoelbrak and the Black Citadel to ask assistance against this alliance. After seeing his request declined, the PC offered to help him and travel to Cragstead just in time to see the whole population has been either killed or taken. He then proceed to head to the HQ of the molten alliance in order to free his people.
In the same time, Rox (who is a young Charr who lost her whole warband into a mine accident) is trying to join a new warband and not just any warband but the Stone warband which is Rytlock Brimstone’s. In order to join it, she must prove herself and Rytlock sends her investigate Molten Alliance attacks in Nolan Hatchery (where she gets a new pet, Frostbite, cause her former devourer was also killed in the accident).

So, the PC, Rox and Braham heads into Molten Alliance factory where they proceed to free the prisoners and kill the two leaders of the alliance. They also bring back some dredge and flame legion prisoners for questioning informing us of the two groups have been reunited thanks to a unknown female person whose identity is still unkonwn yet.
Braham comes back to Cragstead with his people and his (not so much lately) girlfriend to rebuild the homestead and Rox is still stationed in Nolan’s Hatchery waiting to prove herself once again to join Rytlock’s warband. End of F&F story.

The next story arc takes place in Southsun Cove (the karka populated Island we visited back in November) where a new trading company, rival with the BLTC, has build a vacation center and has been offering a new home to the refugees from the Molten Alliance attacks. However, it turns out that the contract the refugees signed with the consortium prevent them to leave the island and force them to work for the Consortium. That’s why Canach, a sylvari who was initially unwillingly responsible of the karka attack back in November, is trying to release the refugees from their contracts by making the local wildlife agressive so that they can destroy the contracts. However, there are also casualties among the refugee population that’s why the Liongard sends captain Ellen Kiel (and us) to investigate the attacks.
She (we^^)finds out Canach is responsible and make him under arrest then proceed to destroy the contracts by herself by making the ship transporting them explode.
No more contracts, so refugees aren’t bound to the consortium anymore and are free to leave if they want to. End of the arc.

(continued)

Then comes the time of the Dragon Bash festival in Lion’s Arch. It’s all fun and games until Captain Ashford, a member of the captain council in Lion’s Arch, is murdered during the celebration. Once again, Kiels is sent investigate and we’re hinted (by a mysterious letter from Mr.E) to visit a private detective, Marjory Delacqua, to find the murderer. Marjory helps us investigate and we find out the crime has been commited by Mai Lin, captain of the Aetherblades : a group of airship pirates. Kiels finds the hideout of the Aetherblades and we head together in their retreat to stop them. We discover they have been helped by inquest agents and we proceed to arrest Mai Lin, who then reveal she was just obeying to a mysterious “Scarlet” we don’t know about.
Magnus the Bloody handed then gives the Aetherblade airship to Kiels as a reward, who is now captain, and offer her to candidate for the vacant council seat.
She accepts and, in order to secure her position, she’s suggested to try to establish a trade with the Zephyrites who are people living on a giant airship and who have been reported to have landed on Labyrinthe Cliffs.
These zephyrites are in fact the legacy of the Dwarven brotherood and were worshipping Glint. They have scavenged crystals from her corpse, allowing their sanctum to fly (which isn’t exactly sure, they might already have a flying sanctum before).
Evon, the leader of the BLTC, is also candidate for the seat and has also headed to the Zephyr sanctum to secure a trade with the zephyrites.

That’s basically everything we have until now.

While the first official Living Story update was Flame and Frost, a four month story, one can consider it to have truly began with Halloween. However, Halloween and Wintersday’s influences are relatively moot, only The Lost Shores truly matters in relation to the Living Story.

I don’t have time so I’ll leave the F&F and one bit to the others who described it already. But the summary of The Lost Shores is this:

Recently, exact time unknown thanks to the plague that is the Dead Ships of Zhaitan, an island appeared due to volcanic activity (this was only hinted at until Secrets of Southsun). The Consortium, after Zhaitan’s defeat and the reduction of Risen, found this island and decided to make it a vacation resort, sending Canach and a team to survey the land, with the explicit rule of not tamporing with the wildlife. Canach noticed a loophole in that he wasn’t told not to tamper with the flora of the island, so he did some experimentation.

This experimentation with the Passion Flowers/Fruits kitten ed off the karka, who had recently migrated there to avoid a threat in the Unending Ocean (implied to be the DSD as they avoided Orr for the same reason they left their home). The karka then wiped out all but 4 known members of the expedition: Owain, who still lives on the island; Canach, who fled to Garrenhoff; Blimm, who returned to Lion’s Arch and the Consortium; and Noll, who fled to Caledon Forest. The karka then followed the three who fled, assaulting those three locations, prompting the Lionguard to begin an investigation, find a way to bypass the karka’s thick and steel-like shells, and they eventually found said three out and about Southsun Cove for the first time, where they launched an assault to eliminate the Ancient Karka who was organizing the assault.

With the Ancient Karka destroyed, the karka threat was lowered and Kiel put in charge of managing Southsun Cove so that the karka do not attempt another invasion. Meanwhile, Canach fled the scene rather than be arrested, and the Consortium continued to improve their “vacation” resort. Until the events of Secret of Southsun.

This has apparently been a big thing recently, I’m actually writing something now. Wintersday is, so far, pretty irrelevant as far as the overall plot, but there is at least one reference to the Halloween event in a recent arc, so it might be good later to have that.

I posted a fuller write-up of the Living World story so far that I’ve been working on in the Living World subforum.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/lwd/Living-World-The-Story-So-Far/first

Still being worked on to make sure I got all the details, but it’s pretty complete as is.

There was? Missed this. What was the reference and its context?

The reference was the investigation box used in Every Piece Matters in Dragon Bash.

Marjory Delaqua: (laugh) That’s a loaded question. Let me tell you about my Tassi box. I bought it off a snotty little asura.

Magister Tassi was the asura doing the whole Mad Memories investigation in Shadow of the Mad King. You’re using the same device she provided, just updated.

Not a huge reference, but it’s there.

And actually, F&F had a tiny reference for Wintersday as well, now that I think about it. One of the Lost and Found items during Flame and Frost was a toy that was made after Refugee Malia saw one of Tixx’s toy soldier but couldn’t get one. His legionnaire made one and gave it to him.
