Lore-wise, what would surprise you the most?
i just want marjory and kas to die
what would supririse me most is if there truly is good acting, good cinematics, good storytelling and me caring about it. Or its its just the same go there kill this, rince and repeat.
I would love to see the dragons all come and and flame the world, burning it to a crisp.
Conversely I’d be highly surprised (and extremely disappointed) if the Wizard’ Tower became explorable. Some things are best left as mysteries and to the imagination. Good fantasy should always have things like this.
Nothing they could do to the Wizard’s Tower could ever live up to the individual imagination and expectations which have accumulated over the last decade. The best thing (jn my opinion) is for it to be left as a permanent mystery hanging in the sky.
What would surprise me lore-wise ? That the Kodan’s origins for the Norns would turn out to be true, which would lead to some big revelations about Koda and its place in the Pantheons of Gods in Tyria.
Would be pretty cool if the forgotten weren’t gone for good, but had become enslaved by one of the last few elder dragons (after we kill Primordus/Jormag) and we end up having to fight them and fight corrupted corrupted exalted.
It would surprise me the most if Anet went with the Six-Gods and Dragons are connected theory, that was (and is in parts) popular with a lot of fans. They already “jossed” it in-universe, so that would be surprising and a bit sad.
Building off of old lore without retconing it.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Surprise.. what I would love is a threeway war with Jormag and Primordus. Meaning not just us against them, but they against each other as well

Ouch…
Finding out that Rytlock is the reincarnation of Prince Rurik. That would be the only way to really shock me.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
If, despite the trailer, we ended up going straight to the Crystal Desert region anyways.
Someone else than player character & the hobo band killing off an Elder Dragon.

I actually really would like it if something like that would happen…
That Poobadoo is really Bubbles
i just want marjory and kas to die
Yay for bigotry!
If the story didn’t contradict what was in GW1.
Skritt conquer Kryta
Thermaltron; it’s not bigotry to want them to die the pair of them are annoying individually and together are unbearable

…TBH Marjory is edgy af and Kasmeer should just split and look for a less cringy emo.
We have Canach for that already, and he does it 10 times better.
Picture this:
Since the remaining dragons absorb the magic from the dead ones, the last one becomes nearly unstoppable.
Tyria is at the brink of destruction… when suddendly, 6 shimmering lights descend from the sky… the human gods, finally returning to Tyria after centuries of silence. Together with all the races of tyria, the six gods personally help with the fight and the last elder dragon is barely destroyed.
With the enormous amount of magic set loose after the last elder dragon dies, Tyria is forever changed (first time in history the dragons were actually physically destroyed, altering the natural balance), volcanoes everywhere, tsunamis, earthquakes, mutated entities, etc. This new Tyria is the gateway to GW3.

This got me. I’d like that.
That’s very Diablo-esque, Knuckle Joe. That world is a friggen disaster, supernaturally speaking.
They actually updated water combat and the last dragon the Water dragon was actually fought in underwater combat at the very bottom of the sea. Something akin to wow’s underwater zone of constantly traveling deeper an deeper into the seas with the changing aquatic life changing to signify just how deep you’ve traveled until in the dark depth you fight the actual dragon with Quaggans, Krait, and Largos.
Oh also decent characters I don’t think I’ve ever met a group of more unlikable people than the lot I’ve seen in GW2. Heck people are talking about Jor and Kass and since I met them they’ve literally only been a stereotype whose only purpose is to be a couple and talk about a couple to show how progressive this game is instead of either of them doing anything. Espeicially Kass she exists only to be paired with Majory which is actually kinda bigoted to have a character that serves no other purpose.

Exactly that.
I would be honestly surprised if they could add old lore elements without ruining it somehow.
I would be INCREDIBLY surprised if they could capture the spirit and atmosphere of GW1 with their next expansion – at least lore-wise.

I want them to die too – I simply despise them. And get this – it’s not because they’re lesbians. They’re literally ANNOYING.
I don’t want couples in my group – I’m not here for the romance.
It would surprise me if they managed to make Braham even a little bit likable…
Right now he’s worse than Logan in his blindsightedness.

The irony is that, where kodan are involved, the new update did exactly that. It built off of Eye of the North (Egil Fireteller’s mention of the spirit of fire) and pre-release lore without counteracting it.
So yeah… I was surprised. And was thinking it to be the best release… then I did the second half of the story after getting into the zone.

That the Owl Spirit on top of the Owl Lodge is really her, and she’s come back to help rescue the other Gods/spirits.
They bring back Prince Rurik…. Again
Golems become sentient and a playable race.
They bring back Prince Rurik…. Again
No rest for the wicked
Braham acting like a sane person would be quite a surprise.
A Dragon destroying Lions Arch would surprise me…or maybe not

They bring back Prince Rurik…. Again
What’s the problem with that? We’d get to kill him again! And hopefully again, and again, and again. For an NPC that got us killed so many times in GW1, one death is NEVER enough.
(True fact: I never rolled a warrior in GW1. Until I played Turai’s story for Durmand, I had little sympathy for Rurik’s behavior. After that I was much more understanding. Funny thing is, though I liked Turai’s story most of all the Durmand missions and played it many, many times just for that beautiful final cutscene, I still never rolled a warrior. )
Razah comes back as a Revenant and becomes the new Marshal . Period.

I would absolutely love this!
Lion’s Arch is destroyed. Forever.

Lion’s Arch is destroyed. Forever.
Good, to me its already.
Cobiah Marriner dreamed of a hub of trade to all races, not a disney waterpark parking lot.
Agreed completely.
Old Lion’s arch had character and actually looked cool. The new nautical theme is a sorry attempt.

The new LA has character, too. It’s the character of the Consortium. What else would you expect from a bunch of superficial, shallow corporate pirates? Certainly not coolness! If you follow the LA tour guide around for a bit, you’ll hear a few bitter comments from her concerning the change, so it has clearly been done deliberately for a particular effect, not because the ANet designers have run out of imagination.

A Norn abstinent
That the Elder Dragons only exist in current GW2 Map area and the rest of the World of Tyria do not even know about what is happening in GW2 Map and that Elder Dragons exist due to all Elder Dragons being only located conveniently in the current GW2 Map.
Really the whole Elder Dragon plot is way too convenient as if the only races that actually fight the Elder Dragons are the races in the current GW2 Map and the rest of 90% of Tyria never gotten involved in Elder Dragons even in past Awakening Cycles. It is as if the Elder Dragons only wake up within the GW2 Map area each Cycle and then falls asleep again within the GW2 Map again at the end of the Cycle and thus never moving beyond GW2 Map each time thus no one would know Magic is being consumed by Elder Dragons in 90% of the World because no one ever seen them or gotten word the cause of Magic disappearing is because of Elder Dragons consuming the World’s Magic in one same Location per Cycle.

We already know that the Elder Dragons have influenced outside of Central Tyria. Both Jormag and the DSD awoke outside of Central Tyria, after all, and the DSD remains outside of it. In addition, Zhaitan had armies on Elona’s northern borders (though that played a plot relevance of zilch).

And this “effect” might be a good thing if this was a story instance but it isn’t. It’s something that’s in the game for a long time and all it’s managed to do is to make me avoid that city as much as possible.
I understand changing things “for the worse” to drive a story point but if the updates are so far between you’re not really going to achieve much.
On Lion’s Arch:
There are parts of the new city, that I genuinely like better than the old one. The city streets, the nooks and crannies, the old buildings, that still exist, the commodore’s quarter and the trolls revenge jumping puzzle.
There are even some characters that I like and can relate to. In real life I like to criticize modern architecture for all the cheap shortcuts it takes, which makes it very easy to relate to the tour guide.
Most of the characters need more dialogue, though. Old Lion’s Arch had many characters, that gave a good amount of background info on the city and life within its walls. I miss the flavour of those interactions.
But there is one place, that I do try to avoid as much as possible, yet due to its sheer size its not feasible. The ridiculously huge plaza in the northern part of the city.
Why?
Normally, a city plaza is enclosed by building and contains a fountain. The old Lion would have been most appropriate. Instead, once you enter the city, you are greeted with a wasteland that covers most of the habitable area and the buildings and streets and alleyways, where most of the actual living in a city takes place are sidelined by a pointless steel and glass dome, a ridiculous bank, a shell of a trading post, the crafting stations are hiding under a starfish and the distances are, well, impractical to say the least.
I call it the pointless plaza.
Which is sad, because I like the new turn Lion’s arch took. It looks less like an inhospitable landfill of salvaged ship pieces and more like a fortified coastal city, similar to mediterranean cities such as Dubrovnik, but with its own distinct style.
I can see why the old city was still around, though, considering it’s been 42 years since Cobiah Marriner died.
EDIT: I would like to spoiler this, but apparently the spoiler tag does nothing.
The lore thing, that would surprise me the most is, that we finally get to meet Bangar Ruinbringer and Malice Swordshadow. The blood imperator is the only person with the definite authority to give Rytlock an order to explain revenant magic.

The Consortium is also going to be in the game for a long time, and they are going to keep popping up doing things that may or may not bode well for the future. We’ve already seen them become involved with the ley energy eruptions in competition with the Priory and making semi-shady offers for the Reforged Shadowstone. It’s a long-term plot line without much clue yet where it will go, not just a quick story point. I don’t see how a continuing indication of their character is a bad thing.
Well we know that Anet is having a bit of a fascination with dragons atm… Maybe I should forge a tank and helicopters just in case they do have several dragons attack at once?
